Sinking Faster

Shake this town

By the time we arrived at the restaurant - some false impression of a fifty’s style diner - my stomach was growling so loudly, I could feel it echoing in my ears.

“Are they here yet?” I asked Courtney, my foot tapping away impatiently.

“No. Wait, I think I see them,” she replied, waving her hand. “John! We’re over here.”

I turned my head to see a tall, skinny boy, with brown hair messily placed on his head, a wide smile plastered on his face. I wondered how Courtney ended up with this guy. Just as I began to think, another boy, the same height, followed after John. He, too, was skinny, his hair a lighter shade of brown. He had bright blue eyes that glared right back at me. He certainly did not want to be there, as did I.

“Well hello ladies,” John smirked, looking at Courtney, who in turn, blushed. “Who’s your friend?” he asked, his gaze falling on me.

“Oh that-”

“Nicole,” I answered, interrupting Courtney, looking annoyed.

“Oh, well, this here,” he said, slapping the blue-eyed guy on the shoulder, “is Garrett. Garrett, meet Nicole.”

With his arms crossed, he looked me over, scoffing.

“What the hell is your problem?” I asked, clearly aggravated. Number one: I did not want to be here. Number two: I was as hungry as fuck and I was not the girl he wanted to mess with.. Number three: I would not be degraded by a boy I hadn’t even met before.

“Nothing. I just didn’t know I was going on a date with a slut,” he replied easily, looking smug.

“Excuse me? Yo-”

Before I could even defend myself, I was unfortunately interrupted by John’s cheery voice.

“So, guys, wanna grab something to eat now?”

This would be a long night. Fuck Courtney for even making me come.
