Rule Breaker

Paranoid

Abbey arrived home later that afternoon and quickly went in search of Zack. His vehicle was gone, and she knew the odds of him being home were very unlikely. She had tried texting him all evening, and he hadn't replied to any of her messages. She walked inside the house and looked around, hoping he was there. Icky came bouncing down the stairs and she knew Zacky wasn't home. She sighed, as she reached down and patted the dog softly on the head, and then walked up the stairs to change into something more comfortable.

Once she changed clothes, she sat down on the edge of the bed and allowed the tears to fall down her cheeks. She had been holding them back all afternoon. She didn't think she had done anything wrong by cutting Nathan's hair. She didn't flirt with him. She actually told him to shut up, and she took up for Zacky. She sighed softly, as she laid down on the bed and curled up into a small ball. She really didn't want Zacky to be angry with her. Things had finally got good for them.

Zacky walked into the bar angrily. He had called and ask Brian and Jimmy to meet up with him. He had left about an hour before Abbey got home. He didn't feel like facing her right now. His blood was boiling from earlier. Part of him knew he should hear her out and just relax. It could have been nothing. But another part of him couldn't help but to just think the worse. He had been fucked over so many times in the past which made him paranoid.

"What's the fucking emergency?" Brian asked, as Zacky approached the table where he and Jimmy were sitting.

"I'll be right back. I need a shot." Zacky said.

He walked over to the bar and ordered himself a shot of Jack, and told them to keep the shots coming. He then returned back over to the table and sat down. A woman brought over another shot and he tossed it back and then wiped his mouth with his arm as he looked over into the brown eyes of his fellow guitarist.

"So, I went to visit Abbey today at work. . . and she was fucking cutting her ex boyfriends hair." Zacky spat.

"Oh." Brian said, "Did she uh get back together with him or something?"

"No." Zacky shook his head, "At least I don't think so. Hell, I don't even fucking know. I just got out of there quick. I was going to punch him in his fucking face but she stopped me."

"It really could have been nothing." Jimmy said.

"I just don't understand why she couldn't have just told him no to the cut to begin with." Zacky muttered as he took another shot.

"Maybe she didn't want to look bad in front of her co-workers." Brian said, "Plus, turning down a client means turning down money for your moms salon. You need to look at it from a business aspect."

"I don't give a fuck about a business aspect." Zacky seethed, "I care about my fucking girlfriend cutting that assholes hair."

"Is this the guy who you got in a fight with?" Jimmy asked.

"Yeah." Zacky nodded.

"Abbey just doesn't seem like the type of girl to betray you." Brian said, "I don't see why you're this worked up."

"Do you think anything happened?" Jimmy asked.

"I don't know. I know she cut his hair. I'm sure he shit talked me, and probably tried to sweet talk her."

"Zack, you just need to fucking go talk to her before you drink anymore. We all know how you are when you drink."

"I don't know. . . I think I just need to calm down and let loose before I go home." Zacky said.

"Dude, you really just need to go talk to her."

Zacky sighed. He knew he needed to talk to her but he also knew he needed to wait. He was still pretty angry and he didn't want to say something he would regret. He kept ordering shots, even though Jimmy and Brian both thought he should just go home. After about two hours of constantly tossing back shots he found himself getting very drunk.

"I really think you need to go home." Brian said.

"He can't even fucking stand up. How is he suppose to drive home?"

"Let me go call Johnny, and I'll tell him to pick up my vehicle. I'll drive him." Jimmy said.

Jimmy left, and Brian told Zacky he was going to go take a leak before he went home as well. Zacky was drunk, and he knew they weren't going to let him drive. But right now the only thing he wanted to do was drive. He stood up as he saw one of his friends one the phone not paying attention to him, and another one in the line to use the rest room. He slowly made his way out of the bar and over to his vehicle.

He climbed inside and quickly started the engine. He pulled out of the parking lot quickly, not giving his friends a chance to stop him. He really didn't need Jimmy taking him home, bitching the entire time. He didn't even know if it was such a good idea to show up drunk or not. Would Abbey be disappointed in him? Would she even be there? Did she pack her bags up and go back to Nathan? So many questions were rushing through his fuzzy mind.

As he was driving down the road he began to think back to his previous relationships. He had always been in hell. He always had to worry about if the girl was staying faithful to him. He always had to worry about coming home to an empty house. With Abbey he never had those worries. Even when he had saw her in the same room with Nathan, he didn't even have those worries. He shook his head. He didn't know if the liquor was wearing off, or if he was just coming to his senses. This was Abbey he was talking about, not Gena or some other slut from his past. This was the girl he loved.

He smiled softly as he continued to glare at the road ahead. He was only about five miles from home now and he couldn't wait to see her smiling face. Zacky reached over and fumbled with the knobs on the radio. He cursed when he couldn't find a station that suited his taste. He returned his vision back to the road, and gasped out when he saw a large dog standing in the middle of the high way. He swerved to miss it, and the next thing he remembered was seeing Abbey's smiling face before darkness took over.

Abbey raised up and rubbed her eyes hearing the phone ringing. She sighed, as she reached over and picked up the phone. It was after three in the morning.

"Hello?"

"Abbey?"

"Yeah. . ."

"This is Jimmy. Uh, Abbey-- Fuck, Zacky was in a car accident."

"What?" She said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Brian and I tried to stop him from leaving, but he snuck out on us. We found his vehicle and stuff just about an hour ago. We're at the hospital. He's. . . can you come?"

"I'm on my way. Don't leave him." Abbey said quickly.

She hung up the phone and more tears streamed out of her eyes as she grabbed her keys from the table. She just prayed that Zacky was alright. She loved him, and didn't know if she could function without him.
