On the Surface I Have the Perfect Life, But My Life Isn't Surfacing

I searched for gold(33)

My limping to the breakfast table had aroused some suspicions.

“CJ, dear. What’s happened to your foot?” Megan asked, staring solidly at my foot.

“I banged into something last night” I shrugged and sat down.

Megan nodded and went back to reading her paper.

Caleb nudged me in the ribs. “Oww, what was that for, douche!”

“oh tetchy this morning, aren’t we?” Caleb said jovially, flashing a perfect smile at me. I turned away and looked at Marcus, who was staring deeply at his cereal.

I sighed and went to butter a piece of toast.

“so what plans do you have today, hop along?” Davey, asked cheekily.

I smirked and said “I don’t know may-”

“You have to go wedding dress shopping” Megan said finally.

I felt sick as I registered what she said. No. NO. NO IM NOT GOING.

“Today?”

“Yes today, CJ.”

I inhaled sharply and turned to Marcus who had a horrified expression on his face.

“Oh right, well.. I better call Maggie”

“Yes I suppose, but don’t take too long your mother and your sister are arriving soon” Megan said with a smile.

I grinned from ear to ear. “They are?” I asked with suspicion.

“Yes, darling. They wanted to be with you whilst you picked the dress. Its traditional”

I nodded with a smile. I couldn’t wait to see them. I hadn’t seen my sister Rory since she moved to Paris, with her live in boyfriend to explore her creativity.

I stood up and left the table, when I got to my room, I reached for my phone and rang Maggie-she’d meet us in an hour.

I sat on my bed contemplating what to wear, when I heard a knock.

“Come in” I looked towards the door to quickly see Caleb emerge through it.
I sighed “What do you want, Caleb?”

“I want to know why you’ve been giving me the cold shoulder?”

“Come in and shut the door” I instructed.

Caleb came and sat in a plush armchair next to mine.
“So why?”

“You kissed me. On Christmas Eve” I said, staring at Caleb.

“What?!”

“We were drunk and chatting and then we kissed”

“No, no we di-…”Caleb began to say.

“Yes we did”

“Oh my gosh, CJ! I’m so sorry, what was I thinking” Caleb groaned, and rested his head in his palm.

“Hmmm we were both drunk, it was just an accident!”

“A stupid, stupid accident” Caleb had slouched in his chair.

“A stupid accident that Marcus saw” I mumbled, looking at my feet

“no. no. no.” Caleb sat bolt up right and began shaking his head.

“Yes and now he’s mad”

“But you told him it was an accident right?” Caleb asked.

“Yes of course he just doesn’t believe me” I said sadly.

“Don’t worry CJ, I’ll sort it” Caleb got up, and walked out.

I sat on my own for a few minutes, until I heard the door open, I didn’t bother looking up, I just rubbed my eyes instead.

“CJ, what was Caleb doing in here?”
