Moonlight Requisition

Jane

The rest of the day I didn’t see too much of Cooper. I had last period study hall with him. But it was a big library, so we didn’t bump into each other. And I didn’t go out of my way to talk to him. Once the final bell rang I ran out to the bus circle. Even though I was sixteen my parents wouldn’t let me drive. I had to wait till I turned seventeen. Just another thing they did to torture me.

I was the first one to the big yellow bus, Fran the old driver let me on.
“Afternoon, Jane.” She nodded her head.
“Hello.” I replied sweetly, walking to the back of the bus.
I sat down on the worn black seat, and rummaged though my backpack for my ipod. I popped the little buds into me ears, and put it on shuffle.
The first song to play was ‘Wallflower’ By Priscilla Ahn. It was a song I could relate to. I hummed along until other people started to file onto the bus.
Once it was full Fran closed the doors, pulling away from the school. I leaned my head against the cool glass, taking in the world outside of the bus. I drifted off to sleep, knowing it would be a while till I got home. Since I was the last stop this bus made.
As I fell asleep I thought about Cooper’s face, and the long daunting halls of the school. I was drifting in and out off sleep the whole ride. Finally the bus stopped at the end of my street. I walked to the front of the bus and said goodbye to Fran, but she just looked straight ahead, motionless. That was weird.
I walked down the three short steps, and onto the pavement.
It was dark outside, much darker than it should be for only being three in the afternoon.
I began to walk down the street towards my house. I didn’t hear the bus pull away, but when I looked back it had vanished.
I quickened my pace, almost at a run. I didn’t know what was going on but something odd was happening. Everything was too dark, the streetlamps not on. And there was no moon to guide me.
I didn’t like this feeling; it was different but all too familiar at the same time. That handshake with Cooper was like this. It was eerie, supernatural. I hate to say that I am kinda scared.
I was still walking quickly towards my house, but no matter how fast I moved I didn’t seem to make any progress. Surely this is just a bad dream, even thought it felt so real.
Something inside me told me to stop. So I did. I planted my feet shoulder length apart, ready for what was going to happen next. This great wind blew all around me as the scenery changed, flashing before my eyes. I saw figures, moving quickly all around me in the dark; they were to fast for me too catch their features. But they looked lost or in a hurry, I couldn’t tell which one.
I turned in a circle, taking in everything going on around me. In the distance I saw something; it was still like I was. I started to walk forward, wanting to know who this person or thing was. As I got closer they moved farther away. I sped up, moving faster than normal. I felt like one of those streaks that zoomed past me earlier, that were still passing me now. I caught up to what I was chasing, but I kept a safe distance from it. It spun around, so I could see its face. It wasn’t an ‘it’ at all, it was a boy.
“Cooper?” I said out loud, putting my hands up to my mouth in shock. Suddenly everything started to spin. Then if even possible, everything got darker.
I felt something soft, and spongy beneath me. I ran my hands around, afraid to open my eyes. I hesitantly lifted one eyelid. I saw my house, so I opened my other eye. I was in the grass, more specifically I was lying in my front yard. The sun low in the sky, getting ready to set and bring the night. I stood up and grabbed my backpack, walking towards the house.
Before I opened the door, I straightened my shirt and fixed my hair. As I was doing this the door swung open.
“Where have you been?” My mother yelled, but she had a worried look on her face.
“What are you talking about, I just got of the bus.” I shrugged my shoulders and started to walk towards my room.
“Its seven thirty, it didn’t take the bus that long to get you home Jane.” She walked over to me. “Where have you been?”
“I just told you mom, I just got off the bus.” I yelled back at her.
“Jane.” My mother pressed, she had her arms folded over her chest.
“I passed out in the front yard. Okay?”
”Oh, Honey are you okay? Do I need to take you to the doctor?” she rushed to my side, placing her small hand on my forehead to see if I had a fever.
“I’m not sick mom.” I swatted her hand away, stepping away from her. What was up with people touching me today.
“Then why did you pass out?”
“I don’t know.” I said as I walked to my room.
“I honestly don’t know.”
