Moonlight Requisition

Jane

I saw Cooper in study hall again. I wanted to go over and talk to him. But what would I say?

Hey Copper, I know I don’t know you well. But you were in my dream last night.

I shook my head at how idiotic that sounded. He would probably laugh in my face like anyone else it this place would.

The day ended and I didn’t talk to Cooper, actually I went farther out of my way not to see him. It was like this all week. Till Friday came and I was thank full for the break. To get out of the school, and away from everyone in it. A few of my friends wanted me to go out with them on Saturday to see some new band. But I’m not sure. I don’t really like to go places with lots of people.

I hadn’t had any other weird dreams or whatever since the other day. Actually I haven’t had any dreams at all. Which was even weirder.

Saturday evening rolled around, and I decided to go to the show. I walked into the living room to wait for my friends to arrive. My mom was sitting on the couch and I plopped down on the opposite side of the couch.

She looked over at me, “I’m glad you are finally getting out of the house Jane.”

“Mhm,” I nodded and she smiled at me.

“What are you doing tonight?” she asked turning down the volume on the TV.

I shrugged, “Going to see a new band.”

“Well just be careful, and make sure you and Amy stick together.” She patted my arm, just as a car pulled up out front.

I jumped off the couch, “Well, have to go, love you mom.”

“Love you too, Honey,” she called as I shut the door.

I ran down the front lawn to Amy’s old blue SUV. “I’m glad you decided to come.” She said as I got in and shut the door behind me.

“I think I am too. I have a good feeling about this.” I smiled as we pulled away from my house. We cranked up the radio as we drove into town. On the way we picked up a few more people that formed our small out group, Vicky and Andrew. I liked that we had a small group, not that we really had a say in the matter. We were all pretty invisible, or we were. My three friends who I had known for years were all starting to get lives and more friends. And I sometimes feel that they only hang out with me anymore because they feel bad for me. I don’t mind if they don’t want to hang out with me. I mean I’m really not that interesting. I’m not sporty, and I’m not artistic. Again, just a plain Jane. I have voiced this to Amy, the one who I was closest to out of the three. And she told me that I was crazy. And they would always love me and be my friends. But even as she said this I didn’t believe it. I knew I was growing away from them, more every minute. We were all changing and moving on. But I am the only one staying the same.

“Are ya in there Jane.” Vicky said as she linked her arm in mine as we walked into Saturn’s Light the club where all the local bands played.

I nodded quickly, “Yup, all good.” I said as I threw my free hand in the air, in mock excitement.

We walked in and the first band of the night was already in full swing. I walked to the bar, and ordered a sprite. I don’t drink, ever. I turned around and leaned against the bar and looked out to the crowd, looking for somewhere to go and stand. But before I could even think about moving Amy took the drink out of my hand and set it down and Andrew grabbed my arm and pulled me deep into the crowd.

Andrew and Amy danced around me, I just stood still watching everything move quickly around me. It kinda reminded me of my dream the other day.

“Come on Jane, let loose,” Andrew yelled pulling my arms and jumping up and down. In order to please them I started to move around with the music, somewhat with the beat.

After a while my feet got tired and I leaned over to whisper something to Amy, “I’m going to the bathroom.”

She yelled back, “Do I need to come with you?”

I shook my head, I needed a moment alone. She smiled at me, and I walked off.

As I came out of the bathroom I noticed that music was either really quiet or it had stopped all together. Maybe they were just in-between bands. I walked faster down the long hallway that lead back to the main area and the lights were dim. I walked faster and faster but it seemed to have no end. I swear I passed the same poster ten times.

I stopped and everything began to spin, this can not be happening again.
Suddenly I was back where the band would play then the scene flashed and it went dark again. I tried to walk but my feet felt like they were tied down. I need to move. I struggled I reached down to touch my feet but nothing was there.

I felt around the floor trying to see if anything was sticking to my shoes. When I stood back up I heard someone or something clear its throat behind me. I turned around, my feet suddenly able to move.

There was one of those things that I had seen before. But this one was different it was standing still, or more hovering? And they looked down at me, its face was dark just like everything else in these dreams. It was like those dreams where everything is extremely vivid but you can not open your eyes all the way. The long black cloak it was wearing hung to the floor. I looked up to its face again, not knowing if I should look it in the eyes.

I let my eyes travel up its distorted face until I finally met the eyes. When I did I stumbled back a bit. They were the brightest blue like the sky on a summer day, not creepy in a way I would have imagined, but creepy none the less.

Then they spoke, “N Debería estar hablando con usted.” It’s voice was soft and feminine.

I squinted, “I don’t understand you.” I should have paid more attention in school.

“Querida Escuche atentamente, no se parece en nada a los ojos. Camina rápido y Mantener la cabeza alta.” She said again, I tried to remember every thing she said so I could try to translate it later.

“Do you speak English?” I asked quietly.

“Silencio,” she yelled rattling all around me. I knew what that word ment and I quickly shut up.

“Su muy parecido a los otros antes que tú. Pero tengo la sensación de algo diferente. Aunque usted se parecen a ella. Me siento algo diferente, algo más. Más energía, más más más” she said sweatly reaching out to me he long fingers almost touching my face, but then I heard something off in the distance. Her head snapped up and she recoiled her hand back to her body.

“Tengo que ir, esta conversación nunca ocurrió. Si necesita algo, lo sabré. Yo te ayudaré, pero Solo cuando puedo.” She practicly hissed, so it must not be good.

Then she let out something that sounded like a laugh, but it was to quiet for me to be sure. “No se necesitadas querido.”

“Adios,” she leaned in to whisper to me. Before she pulled away she whispered “Y no hablo con él.” Then she ran away and suddenly they were all around me. Whooshing by again like the last time.

I looked all around me, spinning in circles. I noticed that they all had different eyes. None were the same color as who I had just talked to though. Most were dim, and dull. If I was one of these things then that would be my eye color too.

Just then one of them came really close almost touching me. And another, they were circling around me. One brushed my arm, and I winced back in pain, why did that hurt. Another brushed me and I fell backwards into one.

I began spinning trying to avoid them. But they were every where. Their eyes angry and empty at the same time. One came charging at me and I fell backwards and everything went dark.

I felt a cold hand on my face, “Jane, Jane.” Someone said.

“Jane? Wake up, you are scaring us.” I heard Amy say franticly.

I blinked a few times and there were tons of people standing over me. I tried to sit up but couldn’t. Andrew saw thins and he came over and picked me up.

“What just happened there Jane?” he asked concerned. I finnaly opened my eyes up all the way but closed them quickly when I realized that everyone in the entire place was staring at me.

“I wanna go home.” I said to his shoulder.

Amy reached up and patted my back, “That’s where we are heading Hun.”

“Thank you.” I said quietly. Andrew placed me in the backseat so I could lay down. And Vicky stayed at the club with her boyfriend so I had the whole thing to myself.

“So why did you just pass out in there Jane?” Amy asked as she drove. Andrew looked back at me awaiting an answer. I couldn’t tell them the truth, sure they were my friends. But they wouldn’t understand this thing that was happening to me.

“I just passed out. It happened the other day too,” I looked up at the roof.

I head Amy clear her throat, “If its drugs or if its health issue you can talk to us. You know that right?”

“Amy, I’m not doing drugs.” I said as I sat up. “And I am in good health.” I think, I thought to myself.

“Okay, well just so you know,” she smiled back at me.

After a moment or two I remember my ‘dream.’ “Do either of you have a pen and some paper?” I asked franticly searching the backseat.

“Yeah, in my backpack in the back,” Amy said. “Why?”

“I need to write something down before I forget it,” I said as I reached back and grabbed her bag. I quickly pulled out the notepad and flipped it open and I pulled the cap of of the pen with my teeth and began writing everything I remembered. It was more that I thought I would.

Monday eventually came, against my wishes. And I had an uneventful day until study hall. I was sitting there looking over my paper from the other night, the one that had all the stuff the woman told me in my dream. I was looking up every thing word by word. But I was slow and getting nowhere.

Suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up to see Cooper.

“Hi,” I squeaked. And he sat down next to me.

“Hi Jane, how are you?” he asked trying to see my paper but I quickly flipped it over and he laughed.

“I’m fine. You?” I asked turning back to the computer.

He leaned back in his chair. “I’m fabulous, what is on that paper?”

My eyes wet wide, “Nothing important, some homework crap.” I shrugged.

“Oh cool, so…” was all he got out before Amy interrupted him.

She ran over and grabbed my arm, “Jane, I have been looking all over for you!”

I stood up and grabbed my backpack, “I’ve been here.” I laughed.

“Ughh, well lets get going.” She smiled at Cooper before walking off.

“Bye Copper,” I said before quickly running off to catch up with her.

“Bye,” he yelled after me.
