Unitl I Break

Chapter 30: Oh the embarassment

“Come on crazy,” Gerard said grabbing Seville’s arms and pulling her along.

“how endearing… so where are we going now?” she asked inquisitively as he pulled her away from the hospital nestled in the heart of town, down along the quaint but busy streets.

Gerard lit his cigarette and took Seville’s hand, “Come on there’s a few things I want to show you.”

Apparently Gerard had been there once before. They j-walked across the street to a storefront hidden amongst a hard lined brick wall… it was a coffee shop, you wouldn’t notice that it even existed walking by it, it seemed like one of those places you just had to know about.

“This is the only place I can get coffee I like better than Starbuck’s.

Gerard said holding the door into The Mean Bean, open for Seville.

“I didn’t know you liked anything besides Starbucks.”

“What can I say I’m full of surprises!” he said in a girly manner batting his eyelashes and bringing his hand under his chin.

They approached the barista, who seemed delighted to see new faces, “hi there what can I get for you?”

Gerard asked for something fancy, and turned to Seville…

“Ummm... “she stalled gazing over the vast array of styles and varieties available listed on the wall behind the counter.

Turning to Gerard, “you pick.”

Moments later they took seat in two large chairs, coffee in hand. The place was quaint, it had the perfect ambiance. Though no windows faced the front the backside opened into a huge glass aviary that lit the entire place up. Done up as a loft, there was a second story that opened in a large room full of the same huge comfy chairs upstairs, cloth hung loosely and causally from the ceiling to the floor… the room was warm and the mood was light. Seville could quickly see why Gerard liked it.

“so what am I drinking?” Seville said waiting the smell of the fresh brew

“It’s a Turkish coffee, you’ll like it.”

“I see,” she said taking a drink of it, it went done smooth, quickly jolting her senses to life, “delicious…. And what are you drinking today?” she asked flirtatiously.

Gerard handed his to her, “try it,” she sniffed at it.

“What is it?” Seville asked wrinkling her nose, it smelled like an herbal variation of what is supposed to be coffee.

“Cyanide,” Gerard said stiffly lighting another cigarette.

“That’s love right there…”

“Just drink it….” He said laughing and leaning back deep into the recesses of the chair now drinking the coffee he’d ordered Seville.

Though extremely hot, it was very cool as it went down, now this is coffee, Seville thought to herself.

“So Seville?”

“Yeah gee?’

“So I realized this morning, I know everything and et nothing about you.”

“Is that so?”

“Yeah” Gerard said resolutely.

“What do you want to know?” she said teasing him into conversation.

“Everything.”

“Where do I begin!” she said giggling at the beaming smirk on Gerard’s face, “ your coffee is really good by the way,” taking another sip, “do you want it back?”

“Nah you drink it , I like this one too,” Gerard said lowering the cup so he could smoke. “Okay well tell me then..hmm….this is hard…. So let’s start with the basics…. When’s your birthday?”

“June 4, in the lovely 1980, you?”

“April 9, 1977, favorite color?”

“Hmmm, probably grey or chocolate, yours?”

“Do you have to ask?”

Seville laughed; Gerard was head to two covered in black, “guess not. okay then? How about… your favorite band?”

“Now that’s a hard one… but I think ill go with Iron maiden.” Gerard said confidently
“Excellent choice my friend, im gonna go with a tie between the smiths and gorilla biscuits, don’t laugh at me!” she said throwing a creamer at Gerard.

“That’s one hell of a combination,” he stammered giggling, “ so im assuming you were a band once yourself….”

“Once actually…. I played guitar, naturally.”

“Naturally. Did you sing?”

“Me!? Sing?! Ha now that’s a funny idea. Now Gerard im going to be extremely honest with you, I couldn’t sing for my life, it usually comes out sounding similar to the sound I imagine a dieing cow might make.”

Gerard was laughing his ass off

“Gee!!” she whined helplessly.

“I’m ... I’m sorry Seville, its just eh mental image… hahaha” Gerard calmed down though, “no but seriously Seville I don’t think you’re that bad….”

“oh please you’ve never heard me sing!!” she said laughing at Gerard’s politeness, “ we are so far beyond being polite Gee its okay you cant hurt me feelings. And besides, if you had heard me, you wouldn’t have survived to tell about it, it’s that bad.”

“I have too heard you...”Gerard said a sneaky smirk on his face.

“Oh yeah when?” Seville said challenging him

That devilish smirk known to befall Gerard’s face, crept across his face from one corner to the next. “Well I heard you twice actually. Once when you were working I don’t think you realized anyone else was around, I think you were setting up the tent, frank, Bert and I were smoking behind.”

“Are you serious!” Seville asked getting extremely embarrassed and burying her face in her hands as she pulled up her knees to encompass her, as if it would make things better, “I can’t believe how stupid I feel.” She was giggling but definitely not kidding about how embarrassed she was.

“No don’t do that,” Gerard said going to sit in front of Seville on the coffee table that had previously separated them. “Actually,” Gerard said pulling hands away from her face and gazing into her eyes, “you’re pretty good.”

“Whatever!” Seville said blushing furiously.

“I’m serious Ville! If I didn’t know what you thought just now I would have thought you had had vocal lessons and all that jazz.”

“Well singsonging it while working is no masterpiece.”

“Well, no, but…” there was that look again.

“But what?” Seville said contemptuously angling her eyes a prying smile on her face.

“But what you did in that shower, now that was amazing!”

“Gerard!”

“I couldn’t help myself! You woke me up, damn girl you’ve got a set of pipes!”

“Whatever you just wanted to see me naked.”

“That too.” Gerard said with a shrug.

For a moment they sat there just looking at one another, simply enamored, but then Gerard remembered something.

“Oh shit, I almost forgot!” reaching in his jacket he pulled out a folded piece of paper, “for you .” he said thrusting it at Seville, “whatever could it be?” she asked as she unfolded it.

“I did promise you a drawing….” Gerard uttered coyly.

It was a drawing indeed, it was of Seville,; she had never seen something so perfect so… so flawless, in her opinion her true complexion did not due the portrait justice
