I Counted My Blessings, Now I'll Count This Curse

number nineteen

I made all my homework with ease, and I was really proud of myself for getting the subjects. Carlisle had walked into my room when I just started to ask if I needed any help, but I kindly refused. I was determined on doing this on my own, and I succeeded.

Just after I had finished, my phone started to buzz like crazy. I picked it up smoothly and saw that Jacob was calling me. A grin appeared on my face immediately, and I pressed the green button on my phone.

“Hi Jake” I said. “Hello mademoiselle!” He chirped which made me laugh. “You’re the biggest idiot I’ve ever met, Jacob Black” “I take that as a compliment, my love”. I bit my lip as he said that, trying my hardest to pull myself together. “Yeah you should, because you’re quite amusing in your foolish ways, kind sir.” “Why thank you madam! You are very kind!” He said, putting up an English accent.

I sniggered, “That’s because I’m the most flabbergasting person living in this entire universe and further!” Jake staid quiet on the other side of the line, and I knew he was pondering over what flabbergasting meant. “Is that a Shakespearian word?” He said, hesitation evident in his voice.

I burst out laughing. Jake kept talking to me on the phone, but my laughing overpowered his voice. It took me a while to recover from my laughing fit, and I noticed Jake wasn’t talking to me anymore. “Jake? You still there?” “Yes, I am. Are you done laughing your ass off over my stupidity?” He replied, sounding tired all of a sudden. “I think I am, yes. And sir?” “Yes, darling?” I could hear that he moved the phone away from his mouth as he yawned, obviously not wanting me to notice how tired he was. “Go to bed please.” I could just see him rolling his eyes as he replied, “But Sapp, I wanna stay awake and talk to you!” I sighted and positioned myself on the couch in my room. “Jake, I’m flattered and all, but think about your health! You need to sleep, macho man.”

“Alright mommy, but then I do want you to come and tuck me in.” He said in a baby voice. I frowned. “I thought vampires weren’t allowed in La Push?” “Well, that’s true, but I talked to my dad about it, and everyone here is willing to make an exception for you seeing the circumstances. Most of them know what imprinting’s like, so they’re okay with it.” He said, his voice sounding happy.

“So you really want me to come over now? It’s like..” I paused for a second to look at the clock hanging on my right, “half past 3 Jake! Go to sleep you idiot!” I heard him huff. “Don’t you love me?” I hung up the phone.

I was going to show him how much I loved him.

It took me as much as a minute to run to La Push and find Jacob’s house. His signature smell wasn’t hard to trail through the woods, and I found myself standing in front of the small, wooden house faster than expected. I walked around the house to find the tiny window that would allow me access to Jake’s room and saw that it was opened, and that Jacob wasn’t in the room. I slid through the window and sat down on his bed. Then, I heard Jacob’s voice.

“She’s not picking up the phone dad! What if something happened to her? What if she’s angry with me?” His voice was on the brink of hysterics and I couldn’t help but feel guilty. Jake’s father, Billy Black, broke my train of thoughts. “What is that smell?”

It turned quiet. “It’s a vampire smell!” Billy whisper shouted. “And not just any vampire smell” Jake said, and I could hear the smirk in his voice.

I couldn’t help but giggle at that. Footsteps were to be heard from the other side of the door, and Jake was indeed smirking when he opened the door. “Hello there, stranger”

I got up, walked over to him and slapped his arm. “What was that for?” He whined as he rubbed the spot on his arm. “That’s for doubting my love for you” I whispered as I stepped in for a hug. Jake chuckled softly and wrapped me in his muscular arms. “I’m sorry Sapphire.”
I responded by pressing my lips against his warm neck softly. We stood there for a few minutes but then we heard someone clear their throat.

I spun around in Jacob’s arms to face his father. Jake released me. “Hello mister Black. I’m Sapphire Roberts” I stepped forward and offered him my hand. He stared at it for a moment, before shaking it. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Sapphire. Jacob has told me a lot about you”

I grinned, but before I could say anything, my phone rang. I excused myself before picking up. “Sapphire? Where are you?” Alice’s voice shot through the phone like a bullet, piercing my ears. “Alice, chill, I’m at Jake’s house. What’s up?”

“Can you come home like, now? We have something very important to discuss, bring Jacob with you please.” She tried to hide her worries, but I could hear them through the calm mask of her voice. “We’ll be there as soon as possible.” With that, I hung up the phone.

“What’s wrong?” Jake asked, seeing the panic in my face.

“That was Alice, she wants both of us at the house as soon as possible. She sounded worried Jake.” Jake’s face turned serious immediately. “You start running, I’ll be behind you as soon as I can.” I nodded, smiled at Billy weakly and took off.

The woods smelled fresh and green, but it couldn’t lighten my mood right now. Why would Alice be worried? What was going on?

Jake caught up with me right before I reached the house. I waited for him to turn back into human form and then we made our way into the house.

The whole family was waiting in the living room, their expressions either angry or worried.
“What’s going on?” I asked no one in particular, scanning their faces.

Carlisle was the one who gave me the answer.

“The Volturi are coming over tomorrow.”
