Execution

October 22;Courthouse

The man who saved my life now sat before me. You could tell he tried really hard to appear well-dressed in court. He was used to old overalls and fishing boots.

"I have seen more death than anybody should ever see." He cleared his throat and paused to look around the room, "I did order her to run from the scene, yes. She was the cause of the wreck, yes. But I don't think she wanted to kill anybody. At least, not anybody but herself."

The lawyer approached the stand more proffesionally now. He clasped his hands behind his back and paced. "You are aware that willfully causing a train wreck is punishable by the death penalty in California, Mr. Rennels?"

The man stroked his beard uncomfortably. "She wasn't trying to kill anybody but herself, sir."
