Chapter One Hundred and Forty
Nicks POV
I walked back to James house slowly. My mind racing. I couldn’t believe it. She actually loves me. The feelings are mutual. I looked up and I caught sight of the house in front of me. It was still pouring down with rain. I trudged my way up the small steps and stepped inside.
“Sam?” Chris’ voice came around the corner before he did. “Oh, its you. Where’s Sam?”
“I, I don’t know,” I stuttered out.
James came around the corner now.
“Jesus,” he muttered and shook his head.
He disappeared again and reappeared within moments with a large white towel. He walked towards me. I stared blankly. I felt comatose. I just couldn’t believe this.
“Come here,” James ushered me into his arms and wrapped the towel around my shoulders.
I kept my eyes out of focus; my mind still racing as he quickly patted me down and rubbed my head with the towel. He wrapped the towel around my shoulders and steered me to the kitchen.
“Sit down,” he said.
I heard the concern for me in his voice. He shouldn’t be concerned about me. He should be concerned about Sam. I don’t even know where she went. I should’ve followed her’ I should’ve ran after her once she took off. But I just couldn’t. I couldn’t move. I knew she liked me; I knew that. But, loving me. I was stunned.
“What happened, Nick?” James said as he slid into the bench across from me.
I swallowed and cleared my throat in an attempt to make talking possible.
“I..i um,” I looked at my hands and played with the ends of the towel.
“You what?” Chris asked and he sat next to his dad.
I felt like I was being interrogated.
“I kissed her,” I replied in a small voice; smaller then I thought was possible for me.
“You what?” Chris yelled.
“Chris don’t,” James put his hand on Chris’s arm. “What’d she do? Where’d she go?”
“I don’t know where she went,” I whispered.
The front screen door slammed and the three of us looked up. Sam walked into view stopped in the doorway of the kitchen. Her face was red as were her eyes. Her fringe was plastered to her face and her usual curly locks were practically straight down her front. Her tee shirt and sweat pants were both stuck to her; both dripping on the floor.
She looked up and her eyes met mine. I looked at her; offering a sad smile. She looked down; shaking her head and disappeared from view. Chris got up and walked out of the room.
I looked up when he stuck his head around the door.
“I don't think this is how she wanted to to spend Valentines Day,” he told me before disappearing again.
I frowned. I had completely forgotten about Valentines Day.
“I think I just going to go to sleep,” I told James.
I stood up and made my way past James and to the kitchen doorway.
“Oh, and Nick?” James called me back.
“Yeah?”
“She’ll come around,” he told me.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“I’ve seen the way she looks at you Nick,” he told me; his eyes knowing. “There’s something there. Even if she is denying it right now.”
“Thanks, Mr. Riley,” I half smiled and walked away from him.
I walked into the living room and plopped down onto the lumpy blue couch. I leaned back; closing my eyes.
Sam’s POV
I ran up the stairs quickly and into my bedroom; slamming the door behind me. I dropped myself down on to the floor and leaned my back up against the bed. I pulled my knees up to my chest and sobbed into them. A knock on the door made me look up.
“Go away,” I choked out.
“It’s me, Chris,” Chris called.
I got to my feet quickly and opened the door; throwing myself into his arms.
“Hey, hey hey,” he rubbed my back and hugged me close. “It's alright.”
“No its not,” I sobbed. “Ive screwed up everything.”
“No. How have you?” he soothed. “Nick kissed you. Not the other way around.”
“But, that's not all he did,” I choked out.
“What?” Chris said loudly.
He grabbed my shoulders and held me at arms length.
“He didn’t force you into something you didn’t want to do did he?” he asked.
“Oh, no,” I shook my head quickly.
“Oh thank god,” Chris exhaled.
“It’s a bit late for that talk anyway,” I admitted.
“oh,” he smirked at me. “What’d he do then?”
“He proved to me that, what I feel for him, is in fact love, Chris,” I looked up at my older brother; my eyes watery.
“Oh Sammy.”
