A Twist in Fate

Home

About a week later…

“I have to take Addie home!” Seth yelled, his voice echoing up the stairs.

“You will never leave with Addie along side of you!” Jace countered; you could hear the glare in his voice.

“Who are you to say if she can leave? You’re the one who kidnapped her!” Seth growled quickly.

“Screw you Seth Clearwater! Quapaws always win against any and all Quileutes!” Jace yelled. I could imagine his body shaking as if he was about to shift.

“No! Screw YOU, Jason Dawson! You’re such a bastard!” Seth yelled back. I could tell he was angry but I had never heard him use foul language before.

“Quileutes are all cowards,” Jace started; you could tell he was angry. “Seth, you’re just another coward of the tribe.” He growled, finishing his thought.

“Coward?! How am I a coward? I’ve fought you more than once, haven’t I? I don’t back down.” Seth assured him. “I will get Addie home; whether you want me to or not! Her dad is worried sick, her mother is freaking out and is threatening to take custody of her from her dad, and all of our friends miss her! How the hell can I let you keep my imprint and myself against our wills?”

“Oh, you are free to leave whenever; Addie just won’t be joining you!” Jace spat. The sound of grunts and the shuffling of feet was heard before there was a loud crash and a break; another fight.

I sighed as I listened from the bed upstairs in Rayna’s room and looked down with a shake of my head. “They’re fighting again, Ray.” I mumbled calling her by the nickname I had given to her.

“No dip, Sherlock. It’s just about all they do.” She replied in a bored tone, absentmindedly flipping through the channels on her itty bitty TV.

“Yeah, but it’s always the same thing; always me. Why is your brother so against me going home?” I asked her in frustration, looking over at her with a sigh.

Rayna’s expression looked uncomfortable and torn. I wasn’t sure what to take from that and I didn’t believe her when she uttered her next sentence, if you could call it that, “It’s nothing….just- just complications. Don’t worry your pretty little head over it.”

“Don’t worry my pretty little head over it?” I asked, raising my eyebrow at her. “Really Rayna? I know something’s going on!”

Rayna just shook her head and me and turned her head over to the TV. “I’ll help you guys get out.” She whispered almost too low for me to hear.

“You will?” I asked, gaping at her and playfully felt her forehead with the back of my hand. She seemed so serious and I was expecting someone to pop out and tell me I had just been punk’d. I looked around slightly then back at Rayna. “Ray, are you serious? How are you going to do that?” I asked quietly.

“Yes, Addie. I’m serious and I’ve already got an idea to help you both.” She explained and I gasped.

“You really are serious!” I said in surprise before flopping back on her bed.

3rd Person

"Rayna. I'm going to go out to run the perimeter. Nate asked me too. Watch over the prisoners okay?" Jace said to Rayna.

"Yes, yes dear brother of mine. I'll most definitely keep my eyes on the ‘prisoners.’" Rayna said sarcastically, adding air quotes around the word "prisoners".

Jace rolled his eyes, "The sarcasm wasn't appreciated, sis. Nor was the air quotes"

"Whatever Jace. Sarcasm and air quotes are soooo me! See ya later." She replied waving him off. Jace phased into a wolf, without removing any of his clothing. "DUDE! Don't be expecting me to sew all of that together!" Rayna yelled, literally growling at him. The Jace-wolf didn't even look back on her.

Rayna went back inside. She waited, looking out the window the entire time, for 10 minutes, just in case Jace would come back, because he forgot something or paid Max $20 to run the perimeter for him. Once the 10 minutes passed, Rayna whistled and called out their names, "Addie! Seth!"
Addie bolted downstairs. She had nothing with her, since she was kidnapped and all, so she came down empty-handed. Seth walked downstairs slowly after her.

"Let's go." Rayna said seriously. She knew that she would get into a hell load of trouble for helping two Quileutes escape from the Quapaw reservation, but it was worth it. She hated the rivalry between the two tribes. It was sickening to her and she resented it so much.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Seth asked Rayna.

"Of course. You two are my friends, even if you, Seth, may not consider me a friend because of the rivalry between our tribes." Rayna replied softly.

"Of course I consider you as my friend. A close friend for this matter. Thank you again Rayna." Seth replied strongly.

"Okay, okay. Can we go now?" Addie asked getting slightly impatient.

Rayna laughed a little, "What? You didn't enjoy my company while you were held captive here?"
Addie laughed along with her. They got out of the Dawson household ninja-style, basically, quickly and quietly.

"Okay," Rayna began to say once they were about 50 feet away from the house, "Once we get to the borderline of the Quapaw and Quileute's territory, we have to keep our eyes peeled for my brother. He can pop up any moment."

Seth and Addie nodded their heads, understandingly. They walked in silence most of the way, just so they can hear if anyone, or anything, would sneak up on them.

Once they reached the borderline, Rayna was hesitant to go across it.

“Relax; if any of my pack members catch you crossing it with us, I’ll explain it to them.” Seth said reassuringly.

“They’re all understanding, and if they don’t believe Seth then I’ll talk to them too.” Addie said, adding onto what Seth said.

“Thanks you guys but I’m not so sure. No Quapaw, in the history of the rivalry between our tribes, has ever crossed this borderline.” Rayna said, stressing to them how serious if was.

Addie merely grinned, “Well I guess it’s time for some change in history.”

Rayna crossed the borderline and smiled a little.

“Ya see? Now that wasn’t so nerve wracking or hard.” Seth said, smirking.

“Yeah whatever Clearwater. Let’s just go to wherever you two wanna go. We have to hurry; my brother should be back in about two hours.” She replies, rolling her eyes at Seth.

Addie glanced at Seth and he nodded. “Let’s head to Sam and Emily’s house. That’s where most of the pack hangs out every day.” Addie said before her and Seth got ready to walk toward Sam and Emily’s place but stopped when Rayna protested.

Rayna gasped, looking at them as if they had two heads. “What?! Where the pack hangs out?! Why don’t you two just use a permanent marker to write ‘Kill Me’ on my forehead?!”

Addie rolled her eyes, “Stop being so melodramatic. Didn’t Seth and I tell you that we would explain everything to them?”

“Yes,” She mumbled before her eyes opened up wide, “But that doesn’t mean that they will believe me! What if they challenge me?! I’ve never had fighting experience. Nate, our Alpha, doesn’t allow me to come with him and the boys during something dangerous.”

“That’s stupid. Can’t you get that we’ve got your back?! Everything will be okay! The guys aren’t…really…violent like that! I can assure you that they won’t challenge you.” Seth sighed.

“How sexist! He seriously doesn’t let you come with them?!” Addie exclaimed, changing the subject.
Seth sighed then said softly, “Never mind that for now. Let’s go.”

They walked through the forest, chatting a little here and there. “Sooo…” Rayna gulped, “How many people are in your pack?”

“Just ten of them, counting Seth. The other nine are Sam, Jacob, Embry, Quil, Jared, Paul, Brady, Collin, and Leah.” Addie replied.

“My sister.” Seth tacked on.

Rayna nodded nervously as she took it all in.

“You’ve been a wreck ever since you stepped over the borderline.” Seth said bluntly.

“Gee, I really appreciate that dude.” Rayna replied, sarcasm dripping from every word.

Seth shrugged, “Just the truth.”

Addie looked at her sympathetically. “Don’t worry; they’re all pretty awesome.”

Rayna smiled at Addie. Soon their three pairs of eyes landed on a not-so-far image of a quaint little house in the distance.

“Sam and Emily’s house?” The young Quapaw girl guessed.

“Correct.” Seth and Addie chirped in unison.

They walked closer and closer to their destination in silence. Once they arrived on the front porch, Seth knocked on the wooden door. Emily’s eyes immediately brightened as she saw Seth and Addie right on her doorstep. Emily grasped both of them into a tight hug and smiled big.

“I’ve missed you guys so much! Thank the gods that you’re both safe!” She said but it sounded more like, “I fve mmmsed you gieees so muh! Ank da gados dat yur buth sssaf!” since her moth was covered by Seth’s broad shoulder.

“Emily!” Addie cried grabbing her into another hug.

Emily smiled and stroked Addie’s hair. Then she noticed Rayna, who was standing awkwardly behind Addie. “Oh,” Emily said in surprise, “Who’s this?”

Addie spun around with a smile. “Her name’s Rayna. She helped Seth and I escape.”

Emily smiled gratefully at her and grabbed her into a hug. Rayna was caught off guard by this but let this new stranger hug her.

“She’s also a Quapaw...” Seth said quietly.

Emily’s smile faltered a little but surprisingly she didn’t break away from the hug. Once they did though, Emily spoke up, “Any friend of Addie’s and Seth’s is a friend of mine.” Rayna smiled, pleased with what she just said. “All of you come in; great timing because all of the guys are here.” Emily said, opening the door behind her.

Addie and Seth both entered but Rayna stayed out. “It’s okay I’ll just stay out here.” She said in a slightly panicked voice.

Addie shook her head, “Come on Rayna. No one is going to do you any harm.” She insisted, grabbing her hand and gently pulled her inside.

Rayna resisted her body very tense but reluctantly allowed herself to walk through the door. “Addie… I’m not sure I’m welcome here.” Rayna protested as she was walked into a large family room filled with large Quileute men.

“Of course you are; don’t you worry your pretty little head.” Addie said with a grin, quoting what Rayna had said to her before. Rayna laughed slightly at her before freezing as all eyes were directed towards them.

“Addie!” They all gasped in surprise.

“I told you I wouldn’t come back without her.” Seth told them.

“We never said we doubted you Seth, just that we weren’t sure you would find her.” Embry stated glumly and shrugged. Seth glared while Addie shivered involuntarily at the assumption. The guys chuckled slightly with no humor before sighing. Then all of their eyes shifted to Rayna.

“Who’s this?” Sam asked, his voice booming which made Rayna jump.
Addie gently rubbed her hand and whispered to her to relax. “This is Rayna. She helped us escape…” Addie started.

Seth came over to them as Sam asked his next question, “From whom?” Rayna seemed to be restless and nervous behind them, her weight shifting from foot to foot while her breathing continued in short raspy breaths.

“Her twin brother.” Addie mumbled while Rayna hid behind her and Seth.

The pack went into huge animated speeches, most of which were variations of, “What?! No fucking way! What is that dude’s problem?!”

Sam soon quieted them all and looked at the three, “What would he want with Addie?”

Seth shifted under the gaze of his Alpha before answering, “Well you see, Rayna and her brother are part of the Quapaw tribe…” Sam stiffened and looked at Rayna with a hard gaze as Seth continued, “But Rayna is sick of the rivalry amongst our tribes and she snuck us out and saved us!”

The guys seemed to visibly shake at the mention of the Quapaw tribe, some of them looking ready to phase.

“I told you I’m not wanted here Addie…” Rayna whispered, seeming to cower when slightly when she noticed everyone’s anger.

“All of you are such stubborn wolves!” Addie started and everyone’s eyes were wide, “Rayna saved us from her own brother and you can’t get your thick skulls around that she’s a Quapaw!” Addie seemed to be fuming as she glared at them. “You have yet to come up and introduce yourselves to the person who saved us because of your stupid pride! You should all be ashamed of yourselves!” She spat.

The Quileute wolf-men all bowed their heads in shame before getting up from their seats and walking over to Seth, Addie, and Rayna. Addie and Seth gently pushed Rayna to stand in-between them. Each and every one of them introduced themselves, one by one. As soon as each of them was done they sat down while Sam walked over to stand beside Emily. Rayna had not once looked up since the introductions had started, her fear clouded her mind and made her think if she was to look up that they would take it as a challenge.

Jacob was the last to stand in front of her. “I’m Jake,” He introduced in a husky voice. Their hands met and a distinct spark was felt on their skin which made them pull back quickly. For the first time Rayna looked up and let her eyes meet his. Everything around them seemed to freeze and cease to exist; it was only them in the room and world together. Neither of them had ever felt anything like it. It was as if nothing mattered anymore, nothing but the person standing in front of them. Their eyes stayed glued to each other as they sucked in air in unison. Rayna was now the center of Jacob’s world and vice versa; the unexpected and impossible had happened. Addie had been attempting to get their attention for a while before they had actually snapped out of their daze.

“Hi,” Rayna breathed to him, still staring as a soft smile formed across her lips.

“Hey…” Jacob mumbled, a goofy grin coming to his face.

All of the guys looked at each other before letting out a loud whoop, teasing Jacob. “Way to go Jake! Finally!”

Addie looked quite confused as she tried to figure out what they all meant. “What just happened?” She asked openly, looking highly confused.

Seth draped his arm around Addie’s shoulder and pulled her into his side. “Jake and Rayna just imprinted on each other.” He whispered into her ear.

Addie’s eyes widened as the imprinting legend popped into her head, the word soul mate running into her mind. “No way!
