‹ Prequel: That Four Letter Word

What It Takes

Keira looks in front of her. Suddenly the girl’s head snaps up and Keira is forced to look into her striking blue eyes. Their cold color seems to freeze her into place. She can’t move. She’s afraid to look away. The face in front of her is no older than seventeen, yet wise from experiences beyond her imagination. The girl appears to be crying. The tears don’t make it from her eyes. Somehow, in the innocent youth of her face, she seems guilty. Small creases form around her cold skin and a scream echoes from her distant eyes. Now Keira is feeling guilty as well, unable to look away from the somber image.
Keira wants the girl to speak, to scream and break the illusion, but her dainty lips are glued shut. Then her eyes change tone. She knows there is no help on the other side. She drops her eyes too as she realizes she can’t help this girl.
Keira punches the mirror.
