In the fall of 2007 we decided to make the trek down to Apex, a town right outside of Raleigh and about an hour and a half from the Triad, to go see Across the Universe at the only theatre in North Carolina playing it. On the way home I made a wrong turn and we end up two hours out of the way, four hours from home and right next to one of Tyler’s favorite beaches, incidentally.
The entire time I went from gas station to gas station, begging to bum maps because we had blown all of our money on the movie and dinner, Tyler hung out the car window screaming, “My GOD, Julie, can you smell that salty sea air!”
We listened to the Beatles the entire way home and Across the Universe opened 10 minutes from my house the next week.
