Still Frames In My Mind

"One" by U2

Tyler and I always wanted to start a band back in high school. Most of our stuff just sounded like Dead Kennedys’ rip offs, but once we (along with Anne… okay, it was mostly Anne) actually came up with a really great song. It was acoustic guitar, augmented with soft electric guitar and piano and I swear to God the first time I heard it on tape I almost cried. Then Anne’s little brother pointed out it sounded just like a U2 song. I can’t remember which one exactly, but I’m pretty sure it was “One.”

Anyway, the big picture here is that all of our souls died a little that day.

As far as band names went, Tyler could pick the worst. Our last attempt at getting it together was called Orange Pulp Fiction -- a name that people still bring up as a point of ridicule, but they can all suck it because as bad as the name was, Tyler could rock.

I remember once I just made up a little chord progression and he was laid out on the floor, mumbling this insanely cool song about Star Wars right off the top of his head. I loved and admired the hell out of him for being able to do that.
