Dead in the Water

Get Out Of My Head

(Nonnie’s POV)

“I love you,” Gerard said. I snuggled closer to him. I knew something was wrong, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. He leaned down and kissed me. I eagerly returned the affection. His hand roamed my body, our clothes had disappeared into oblivion a long time ago and for the past few hours its just been me and him.

“Nonnie.” I heard a voice say. It was cutting in and out. I pulled away from Gerard and shot up in the bed. Looking around for the first time, it was easy to see through the sheer black fabric that spilled over the sides of the canopy bed.

First I looked toward the bedroom door it was closed tightly and there wasn't anyone there. I felt a breeze and looked over to my left where there was a glass patio door open. The wind was blowing the curtains around and it looked like there was someone standing in the doorway.

“Baby did you hear that?” I said with Gerard looking mad all of a sudden.

“No Sugar.” Gerard said as his eyes narrowed and he looked over at the door. The figure I thought I saw disappeared. Then he turned back to me and smiled. “It was probably the wind.” His lips were back on mine and I threaded my fingers through his hair.

“Nonnie, it’s me…” I heard the voice again and pulled away. I was losing my mind. I knew it.

“Gerard didn’t you hear that?”

“No, I said I didn’t hear anything!” he said scaring me. I coward under him and his face softened. “Just concentrate on me.” he started kissing down my neck and I took a deep stutterd breath breath.

“Come on I know you can hear me. Fight for me babe, just let me in.” the voice said. Then I remembered where I was and what was happening. I was in the hospital. Gerard had put me there. He…he was a vampire and he was trying to hurt me and my friends. I looked over to the patio door and Frank began to materialize.

“Frank?” I said. I hadn’t meant to say it out loud, but I did and it got Gerard’s attention.

He looked over at the door and saw Frank. I watched as his fangs slid out of his gums, my eyes went wide and I scrambled off the bed and ran to Frank. He held me tight and when we pulled away I was fully clothed. Gerard stood on the other side of the room where I could tell he wasn’t happy about my dream's recent developments.

“You just couldn’t mind your own business could you Frank?” he asked. I moved behind Frank. Gerard was really scaring me. He had me believing that all of this was real. That I was with him and had been since forever.

“Gerard leave her alone, we’ll have this fight in the real world. Just leave her…”

“Frankie my friend, you know me better than that. She’s mine.”

“I don’t want you Gerard. I don’t want what you have to offer.” I said.

“You don’t mean that, cause if you did I would have to take you against your will.” he smiled. “I think I might enjoy that, but I know you wouldn’t.”

“You won’t touch her.” Frank said. Gerard smiled.

“She’ll touch me, won’t you?” he looked at me. “Come touch me Sugar.” he commanded. My legs started to move toward him.

“Fight it,” Frank said. “This is all a dream. You have control…” Gerard must have gotten impatient cause suddenly he was right in front of me. I had made it halfway across the room.

Gerard grabbed me by the back of my hair pulling my head back to expose my neck. I wasn‘t going to let him bite me again. I stomped on his foot and he let go of my hair. I quickly punched him in the face, but my hits weren’t strong enough to hurt him really. Instead he smacked me across the face and I fell to the ground. Frank tried to run over to help me but he started to fade away. “Nonnie, hold on to me.”

Gerard started kicking me, then he lifted me by my hair. The pain felt just as real as everything else had. I hit him in the stomach causing him to let me go again.

“Frank!” I screamed and he appeared in front of me. He handed me a stake.

“You know what you have to do.” he said then he was gone again. It was just me and Gerard. I put all my pain out of my mind. Gerard just smirked at me again.

“You wouldn’t kill me. I’m your big brother.” he said stepping toward me. I dropped down and swept his feet from under him, then I quickly straddled him.

“Get out of my head,” I screamed staking him in the heart. He turned into dust and I fell forward onto the ground.

“You didn’t think it would be that easy did you, Sugar?” he said from behind me. He grabbed me by my hair again pulling me from the floor. I saw he was about to sink his teeth into my neck. Frank reappeared and pulled him back and threw him against the wall. I stood behind Frank and they both started fighting.

“Nonnie you have to wake up,” Frank said.

How do you wake up from a dream you didn’t know you were having? Gerard pushed Frank and he fell onto the ground. Frank scrambled to get up, but he wasn’t fast enough Gerard had me by the neck before he could stop him. Then Frank was gone again.

“Let’s see how you like it,” Gerard said. A stake appeared in his hand and he stabbed it through my shoulder. I screamed out in pain.

“Nonnie you have to wake up,” Frank said again. I closed my eyes as the pain was almost unbearable in my shoulder. Frank was shaking my other shoulder and I started to hear a rapid beeping. My eyes shot open and Frank came into view immediately. I was back in my hospital bed

“Frank my shoulder still hurts,” I said.

I reached up and touched it. When I pulled back my hand I saw blood. Frank ran out to the hallway and got some doctors. Twenty minutes later I was all bandaged up. I waited till the doctors left before I turned to Frank. He had run down to the morgue and got a blood packet from Sisky while I was worked on by the doctors. “Frank do you trust me?” I asked.

“Of course.”

“I know the doctor said that I still wasn’t back to my normal red count, but I need you to bite me.”

“No…”

“Frank, I know you can do this. I can’t let him back into my dreams.” I closed my eyes remembering how Gerard had tricked me. “It’s like I have no control over my own body. I can’t do that Frank please.”

“What if I lose control.”

“You just drank a packet.” I said.

“It’s not the same, I crave you and I can’t be sure I’ll be able to control myself.”

“I can’t keep fighting him Frank.”

“Just a little longer,” I looked into his eyes.

“Please Frank, trust me.” I said.

He seemed to think about it a little longer. Then he reached for my neck removing the bandage. He crawled into the bed next to me. He brushed his lips against mine in a soft kiss then started kissing my neck until he reached the old bit marks.

I gasped when he sunk his teeth into me. I felt him draining me, I was starting to feel even weaker than I had before and there was nothing I could do about it. “Frank,” I whispered and then he stopped. “Thank you.” I barely smiled. Then darkness took over.
