Dead in the Water

Payback's A B****

(Nonnie’s POV)

I took off running. I could hear the fighting long before Frank and I saw it. I knew there was going to be trouble. I started fighting the unfamiliar faces. I wasn’t going to go anywhere near Gerard. At least not yet I wasn‘t ready to face him yet. After fighting and killing five vampires I still wasn’t tired and I still felt I could go on for hours. I was beginning to think that maybe this being a vampire thing wasn’t so bad. I heard Mikey invite Gerard into the house and almost lost it. The one place I felt safe and now Gerard was allowed in.

I tried not to concentrate on that though. Vampires were coming from every direction. I’m guessing that Ian was supplying Gerard with plenty of men. I mean we had to have killed at least a thousand and he always comes back with more than before. I heard Mikey scream no and I was distracted. It sounded like the old Mikey. The one that I cared so much for. I ran into the house to find it was swarming with vamps. I heard martin and Elissa planning to get Amanda out with Andy and Chrissy. I was going to do everything I could to make sure they could make it out.

I watched the go up the stairs and Pete and I made a silent pact. He and I both stood at the bottom of the steps and fought any vampire that tried to follow them. As the numbers started increase Gerard made his way inside. I knew he was looking for Mikey. I also knew that Mikey was dead. Gerard wasn’t going to be happy about that.

“Where’s my brother?” He roared. It was so primal it made goose bumps prick my skin. I was happy that the only other person who was in the house fighting with me was Pete. Frank, Erelin, Brendon, and everyone else was fighting outside trying to get inside.

“Non, I’ll take him.” Pete said. Without waiting for me he rushed off to go against Gerard who was making a beeline for me. Pete met him half way and they started fighting. I just kept fighting the other’s until I looked up and Gerard had a stake about to kill Pete. I rushed over and pushed Pete so that the stake went through his shoulder instead. Then I started fighting Gerard. I was matching him blow for blow and he was just smiling with that smirk.

“You let them kill Mikey?” he said.

“He wasn’t Mikey anymore.” I said hitting him again.

“So what does that make you?” that question both stunned and hurt me. He was right what was I if I wasn’t me anymore. I mean he wasn’t Gerard and Mikey hadn’t been Mikey. Did that mean I wasn’t me?

I froze giving him the time to hit me. I was dazed so I couldn’t block the on slot of blows. Finally he hit me so hard the room started to spin.

“I told you it wouldn’t last,” he said sweeping me into his arms. I blinked trying to at least get my balance so I could fight him, but it was useless. He threw me over his shoulder and then left the house. I could hear Frank calling frantically behind us, but I knew that Gerard’s men would do whatever they could to keep him from following. Finally I let the darkness take over and I passed out feeling Gerard’s lips softly graze against my forehead.
