Dead in the Water

Laughter Is The Best Medicene

(Amanda's POV)

I woke up to the perfect sound; Martin was laughing. I groggily raised my head to see him talking and laughing with my sister, Elissa. I thought that they didn't get along.

"Morning?" I said trying to sit up in bed so I could fully wake up. I still felt weak from earlier but I also felt refreshed from the nap.

"Well, my sister is awake. I think that is my que to leave because I am sure Pete needs me around." She laughed.

"You don't have to go." I said.

"It's cool. You and Martin need to talk and Pete needs me if he wants to get out of here later." She said waving as she walked out the door.

I tried to stand up and grabbed the bed. My knees almost gave out on me. "Amanda, be careful." Martin said concerned for me.

"Relax, I will be fine." I said slowly walking over to Martin's bed. I hopped up on his bed and curled up next to him.

"Don't ever order me to leave you again. I thought I almost lost you." I said.

"What were you thinking by making me bite you? That was so stupid. If Sisky hadn't come back into the room to stop you..." Martin said as I cut him off by kissing his lips.

"I am fine, Martin. You worry too much. What happened between you and Ian?" I asked.

Martin looked away. "Hey, what happened?" I asked making him look at me.

"I couldn't let him hurt those diners. He came in with his men and tried to hurt them. He busted out the windows and threw me out one of them. I fought him off the best I could. I had so much anger towards him. He took my life away. He took your sister's. He made me a monster, Amanda. I wish I could just be my old self. I wish I didn't have to bite you or drink blood in order to survive. I wish you didn't have to be a slayer and just a normal girl." Martin replied.

"I am a normal girl." I said.

"No, you're not. You are the slayer. There can only be...nevermind." Martin said.

"Did you hit your head too?" I said examining him.

"I will be ok." Martin said half smiling.

"I know what would be better." I said grinning wickedly.

"What would that be?" Martin replied.

"I think I should remove part of your hospital gown." I laughed. "And see how your wounds healed up." I said.

"I might enjoy that a little too much." Martin grinned.

All of a sudden his doctor came in stopping me from doing anything. He said Martin was free to go home tonight and then he left. The nurse brought in some yucky hospital food because they didn't know Martin was a vampire thanks to Sisky. So instead, Martin made me eat it to gain some strength back.

"Oh, so kind of you." I rolled my eyes as he tried to feed me when I refused to take bites of food.

"Seriously, you really need your strength." Martin reiterated to me.

"What would I ever do without you?" I playfully said.

"You would live." Martin said.

The gang soon trickled in after visiting Pete and we discussed living arrangements. Brendon of course would be living as usual in Erelin and I's apartment but now on her floor of her room which I know that won't last long. Joe and Bev would be living with us and on our couch until a new place could be found.

Elissa and Pete would live in her place along with Chrissy, Andy, Jenny and Patrick. We were waiting on Nonnie and Frank to arrive to see where they wanted to stay. Patrick had filled everyone in on what happened to them last night and so Elissa had explained it all to me.

I kissed Martin on the lips and got off the bed. "Where are you going?" Martin pouted.

"I will be back. Where am I going to go?" I laughed.

"I don't know. You may run off with Sisky." Martin joked.

"That is not even funny and yes he saved your life and Pete's but that is not how I thank people." I rolled my eyes. "I am going to talk to Pete since everyone is in here." I said as he let go of my hand.

I looked at him before I left the room one last time. Brendon had said something to Martin to make him laugh. It made me smile but secretly inside, I felt as if something was not right between Martin and I and that our happy relationship minus the vampire chaos, was doomed.
