Dead in the Water

Surprise!

After being dazed for a moment, I managed to crawl my way out of the wreckage of the massive bookcase. I stood up and dusted myself off. I knew where Ian had taken off for I felt him in another part of the house.

I took a shelf and broke it, making a makeshift stake and then quickly took off, finding my way upstairs to the second floor of the house. It wasn't your normal house, it was huge, but not as big as a mansion. I found Ian in an empty bedroom, standing outside on a balcony.

He laughed and then jumped to the roof using his vampire speed. I took off after him. I jumped up on the roof just a few seconds after him. We started attacking each other, both taking many blows.

I heard Pete yell out for me and I panicked. How did he find me here? I thought I had ditched him to do my mission.

I saw a glint of something in Ian's eyes and he laughed and started to clap his hands. "Elissa, I'm coming up." Pete shouted.

"No, Pete!" I yelled back.

"No, need. You see I have been very prepared for this for months." Ian snarled. I turned to look down behind me to see Pete start to be attacked my many vampires.

I heard Pete start yelling and fighting down below on the grounds. Ian lunged for me but I dodged his attack. However, my foot got caught in a bad part of the roof and I was stuck trying to pull it out of the roof.

Ian managed to grab me and almost threw me over the roof. I was hanging on for dear life. I could have fallen to the ground and landed on my feet but if I did that, Ian would have gotten away from me again.

I took all my strength and flipped myself up back onto the roof but Ian knocked me down on the roof and stepped on my right arm hard as I had tried to reach for my stake that had slipped out of my hands earlier. "That's a no no, my dear." Ian laughed applying more pressure on my arm as I hollered in pain and tried to break free.

I heard all my other friends start to yell and fight letting me know that Pete was not alone now fighing off the vampires below. There was just too many vampires. I didn't know how we were all going to make it out alive tonight but I did know I wasn't going to give up. I had to do this for myself and for Amanda.

I know my energy level was running low, but I didn't care. I had bruises and a busted, bloody lip, but it still didn't stop me. I had just the distraction I needed. It started to rain.

Ian looked up at the night sky and I made my move, kicking him and freeing myself. I got up with the stake in hand and nodded at Ian. The rain started to become heavier and soon we were in a major downpour.

"It's just you and me. Let's end this shall we?" I replied soaked.

Ian took a running start and grabbed me, tackling me back down onto the roof. I had the upper hand, however. I stabbed him in the heart as he fell on top of me, however the rain had made the roof slick and so we both were sliding. We were going to slide and fall off the roof and there was no way either one of us could fall gracefully. We were going to fall hard onto the ground below.

"Elissa!" Pete and Brendon screamed as I fell with Ian grinning as we hit the ground hard.

I laid there still for a minute. I opened my eyes as the rain fell hard. Every bone, joint, and muscle ached in my body at this moment. I turned over to see Ian had not turned to dust. In fact, he fell with his back to the ground. The stake was still wedged into his chest.

"What!" No!" I managed to get up grabbing my left side in pain.

Ian laughed and stood up. "Surprise!" Ian snickered as I stood in shock. How was Ian not dead? I staked him in the heart.
