Dead in the Water

That's What You Get

(Almost Two Months Later)

(Amanda's POV)

"I can't believe you are dragging me out of my apartment and away from slaying tonight." I said rolling my eyes.

"It's for a good cause. I know you want to see Pete and the boys perform now that their band has taken off. I mean pretty soon they will be famous and you won't be seeing much of your lovely twin sister that much cause I will be off on tour with my soon to be rockstar husband." Elissa laughed.

I laughed too. It felt good to laugh again. Ever since the night of Nonnie's wedding, something has started to change in me. I feel happier. I mean I still grieve over Martin but I am getting better. I am starting to live life a little more.

Pete, Patrick, Andy, and Joe have been playing together for the past few months. They were noticed in one of the clubs around L.A. and signed a record contract. It was only a few days away from Christmas now, and they booked a gig here in town before they head off into a studio to record. We were all proud of them.

Jenny, Chrissy, Nonnie, and Frank were going to meet us at the club where the boys were already at. There was something like five bands on the bill and Pete's band was the second one up. The money from ticket sales was going to help needy kids for Christmas which was why the boys signed up for the gig.

"Isn't this the same club I met and fell in love with my fiance?" Erelin asked as she held onto Brendon tighter as we left my place and grabbed a taxi.

"If I remember correctly, yes it was." Brendon replied looking at Erelin.

"You two make me sick." I said teasing.

"Hey!" Erelin said swatting at me,

"I'm just playing!" I said smiling.

"It's good to see you smile." Brendon said as we headed out to the club.

"So who are the other bands that are playing? Are they good?" I asked.

"I'm not sure. Pete didn't say. I don't think he knew all the bands. The opening band is unsigned and the rest are all signed though." Elissa said.

"Brendon, don't tell me if you see a vampire. I don't want to know. I am off duty tonight." I said wishing it was true.

"Good luck on that one." Brendon chuckled.

"Don't worry, I'll make sure to save you a few tonight if there are any." Erelin laughed.

"Gee, thanks." I rolled my eyes.

"Pete said that after they play and sign autographs he can get us backstage. So maybe you will find you a hot rocker dude." Elissa replied.

"Not likely." I said.

We arrived at the club and saw Nonnie and Frank waiting out front for us in line to get in. The show hadn't started yet and the bouncers were not letting anyone in yet.

"Where are Chrissy and Jenny?" Brendon asked.

"Psh, where do you think?" Nonnie replied rolling her eyes.

"What, no early backstage pass for us?" Erelin replied.

"Ooh, I bet I can get in!" Elissa said taking off.

"Hey get back here!" I said but to no avail. Elissa was granted in cause her name was on a list.

"What kind of treatment is this anyway? Who plays in a rockband and doesn't hook up their friends?" Frank asked.

"It's ok babe. We shall just kick Pete's ass later." Nonnie laughed.

I started laughing too and then stopped. Something happened. I started feeling funny like I did at Nonnie's wedding but I couldn't place it.

"Guys, I will be right back." I said walking away from the group and leaving them puzzled. I walked down the sidewalk to the side of the building. I went to try and head to the side door of the club. But instead I found that the bands keep their vans, busses, and equipment out here by the alleyway the door leads out to. There were so many people coming and going in and out of the club. As I kept walking, the feeling got stronger.

"Miss, this is restricted. Unless you have a pass, I have to ask you to leave." A security guard replied catching me.

"I'm sorry. I just got lost." I said sighing and turning around. The gang must be in the club already because I didn't see them anywhere out in the alley.

"Where did you go?" Nonnie asked me worried.

"I had a feeling, that's all." I said.

"Vampires? I didn't feel any." Erelin replied.

"No. No worries." I said.

About thirty minutes went by and we were finally led into the club. Elissa, Jenny, and Chrissy had already reserved the front row of the stage for us. "Nice of you guys to leave us behind." Erelin said.

"Sorry but they aren't big yet so only the girlfriends could go back." Chrissy replied.

"Uh huh, likely excuse." Erelin rolled her eyes as Brendon held her tight to him making her not stay mad for long.

The first band came on and were a local act. They were ok. Nothing special about them and the crowd didn't seem into it.

Next up was Fall Out Boy which was Patrick, Andy, Joe, and Pete. They had gotten their name at a small show when someone yelled it out in the crowd and the name stuck. They played about six songs and had the crowd going nuts. People were crowd surfing and pushing started going on but we were safe somehow where we were standing and we were standing over where Pete usually stands. Don't ask me how we survived that one.

I thouroughly enjoyed their performance and was proud of them. They worked hard. I was especially proud of my sister and how supportive she is of Pete. They really seem to balance each other out.

"Pete said he would come and get us when he was done signing autographs and we can meet the other bands." Elissa replied after the boys left the stage.

"Crap!" Erelin said reaching into her purse.

"Don't. You stay and have a good time. I need some fresh air anyway." I said as I left the gang to chase after a vampire who had a blonde girl with him. "Just when I was starting to have fun, something always ruins it." I sighed.

I followed the vampire and his target outside. I had to fight through the large crowd inside and the people mingling outside to get to them. I didn't have to follow very far because the vampire stopped a little distance from the building and pushed the girl up against the wall.

"Nice move. I can tell you are a real ladies man." I said tapping the vampire on the shoulder.

"Hey. We are busy here." The girl replied with the vampire still not facing me.

"Really. Did you know your "date" was a vampire?" I asked as the vampire suddenly showed his fangs to which the girl screamed.

"That's what I thought." I said punching the vampire and pushing him away from the girl.

"Don't just stand there, run!" I yelled at the girl who appeared to be stunned. She couldn't have been more then eighteen.

"You just made me lose my meal." The vampire snarled.

"You'll get over it. You are making me miss an awesome concert going on in there." I smarted back.

The vampire lunged at me and I was prepared. He managed to knock me on the ground as we fell and I scraped my elbow on the ground. I pinned him and staked him in the heart. It was all just too easy anymore.

I got up and dusted myself off. I knew my wound would heal but still it always sucks to have an injury, even if its a slight one. I looked at the mingling crowd outside of the club all hoping to get a glimpse of a band that was playing tonight. I think Elissa had told me that the place had sold out.

I looked at my watch and sighed. It was only nine pm. Maybe I should just call it a night and let the gang have their fun. I mean, I did stay for Fall Out Boy. It seems like I get more and more depressed each time I kill vampires which is funny really. I used to love killing them after Martin died. I guess part of me still longs for that happily ever after that I know will never happen for me.

"There you are!" Elissa yelled as I looked up after checking out my elbow.

"Yeah, where else would I be? I mean, killing vampires is my job." I sighed.

"It doesn't have to be." She said when she approached me.

"Then who would save the world?" I rolled my eyes.

"Pete came out and grabbed us to go backstage. I told him I would grab you." She laughed.

"Actually, I think I am going to call it a night."

"What? Amanda, you were coming out to have fun tonight." Elissa pouted.

"I know but look, I came didn't I? And I saw the band which were amazing by the way. It's just that..." I trailed.

"I don't know what else to do with you, Amanda." Elissa sighed as we started walking back to the club. "I guess I can make up some excuse but they won't believe it." She said as her phone rang. "Hang on a sec before you go." She said flipping open her cell phone.

"Hello?" Elissa answered. "No way!" She exclaimed. "But how? I see." Elissa replied hanging up her phone.

"You are coming inside with me now!" Elissa said grabbing my arm before I could protest.

When we arrived at the entrance to the club my heart started to pound and that familiar feeling I had earlier came rushing back. The bouncer nodded his head at us after we flashed our wrists from where we had to wear these wristbands in order to drink. Maybe I should have had a few to loosen up tonight.

My heart was pounding louder now as Elissa was dragging me onto the dancefloor. I hadn't even looked up until I heard one voice start to speak. It was if the whole room had stopped talking as I tuned everyone out but that one voice. I immediately looked up as I stood in the middle of the floor. My mouth dropped open and I looked at Elissa who shrugged her shoulders at me. There on the stage was Martin, Paul, Bryan, and John; his two other friends I wasn't able to meet yet.

"So we're Boys Like Girls and we hope you like our set tonight. This next song, I wrote for someone special who couldn't be..." Martin started to say until he stopped talking and looked around the room. Could this feeling I had all night and all along have been Martin? Is he feeling as I feel now?

I made my way up to the front of the stage. I don't know where the rest of my friends were but I didn't care. I stood in front of Martin and looked at him in shock. He was alive and well. How did he survive? Suddenly all those questions didn't matter.
