Dead in the Water

My Boyfriend's Back

(Nonnie’s POV)

I watched as Sisky held Amanda back. I ran over to help Frank up. My hand caressed his nose.

“Are you okay babe?” I said. It took a second for what I just said to sink in. he gave Amanda a scared glance then a slight smirk came to his face and he looked at me reminding me of how much I missed it over the past months.

“It’ll heal.” Joe rushed up to me and pulled me away from Frank and into his arms. I savored his scent. I was torn, between these two and I didn’t know what I was going to do.

“Non what happened? Are you okay? Did he hurt you?” I smiled as he kissed the bandage on my head.

“I’m fine, I just have a bump on the head. Frank saved me last night.” I explained as he started leading me to the house.

“Look I don’t like the idea of us just standing out here. We can hunt another time.” I heard Pete say from behind us. They were looking at Frank and Mikey like they were the enemy. “We should all head inside.”

“Sisky really let me go,” Amanda said as Sisky carried her into the house. Frank stopped at the door and I turned to give him permission to come in, but Joe spun me around and kissed me.

“Please don’t ever scare me like that again,” he said breaking the kiss. I looked into his blue eyes.

“It wasn’t my fault. There were too many coming after me…”

“How many times do I have to tell you when it gets bad get closer to me or Pete. Don’t try and handle it on your own.” I heard Frank laughing.

“She has always had a problem following directions.” Frank said like he’s know me for ages, which he had, but none of my friends knew that yet. I turned to see that everyone was starring at me for answers.

“Well, I guess you’re all wondering who these guys are huh?” No one had invited Frank in. “Frank come in,” I said. He stepped into the house and closed the door behind him. “Everyone this is my good friend Mikey and that is Frank…” What was he my ex-fiancé? Or what? “Frank uh…”

“He’s her ex,” Joe said. “They were engaged before he died.” I looked at all their faces. Most of them showed surprise others were pretty hard to read like Erelin and Elissa.

“Uh we just wanted to make sure she got here safe. We’ll go, Sisky thanks for your help.” Frank said then he turned to leave.

“Wait,” I said. He turned toward me. I wasn’t ready to let him leave. “We should work together. Last night we were totally out numbered. We all could have been hurt.” I hoped they would cave and let the groups merge.

“I’m up for it,” Frank said with a smile. “I mean so long as I get another chance at Beckett.”

“Wait you know Beckett?” Pete said, suddenly interested.

“I was changed at one of his parties. I was there looking for my friend Brendon…”

“Well, I think it’s a good idea.” Amanda said cutting in. “We could always use a helping hand.” I looked at her and she looked at me. I wasn’t sure if she was just saying that for me or if she was really just happy for the help but she was really the only opinion that mattered everyone else would respect her decision cause she was the slayer. “And I’m sorry for what happened out there.”

“I have a condition,” Frank said. “Non stays out of the fighting,”

“What?” I said looking at him like he was crazy.

“She could have really gotten hurt last night. I don’t think she should be out there.”

“She can handle herself,” Joe said coming to my defense. “We trained her.”

“Well you didn’t do too good a job cause she almost died last night,” I could see anger building in Frank.

“I’ll stay out of the fighting until, my head is better but not a second more. We would like your help Frank, but its not required.” he and I locked eyes. I knew he was trying to protect me, but just like he wanted to get rid of the scum of this city I wanted revenge for everything that William had taken from me. Frank included.

“Fine, until you are well. You won’t fight,” I nodded, Joe looked at me like I was crazy. We’ve had this fight many times, Joe never wanted me to go hunting either but I would always argue till I got my way. I tried not to look at the faces of my friends most of them would wonder why I gave in so easily.
