Dead in the Water

Don't Do Anything Stupid

“Sorry I am late for tonight’s meeting.” I said letting myself into Pete’s place. I was a little busy last night to answer my phone when Erelin called to tell me what happened so I got the message through voicemail.

“What, did you have to leave Pete’s when it got dark first thing tonight to go home and change or something? I was wondering why you weren’t here.” Amanda asked me putting me on the spot in front of everyone.

“Elissa was…” Pete began to say before I cut him off.

“Amanda, I was going to head here but I decided to head on home. I just wasn’t in the mood to visit and I wasn’t in the mood to go slaying.” I said hoping everyone would buy my excuse.

“Pete, you and my sister need a life besides sex.” She said walking away laughing at me. Pete just looked at me funny.

“She’s just in one of her moods I guess.” I said walking over to Pete and kissing him. “So, what have I missed?” I asked.

“Well, Nonnie was attacked by Frank if you would have called me back last night.” Erelin said a little pissed off.

“I’m sorry. I went to bed early for a change.” I replied trying to defend myself.

“Did Amanda kill him last night?” I asked as Nonnie sat on the couch quiet.

“No, but I so wanted to! Next time I see his sorry ass, if he even looks at me the wrong way he’s getting it from me.” Amanda said slamming her fist down on the counter of the kitchen.

“You can’t remember? You have to be nice because of me. Remember I need a babysitter.” Nonnie smiled.

“Babysitter my ass, how about I take a pair of pliers and Erelin holds him down and then I yank those puppies out of his mouth.” Amanda said laughing.

“I would be on board with that. I get the first pull.” Joe said.

“You guys, he isn’t a bad person. He is a good vampire. He just thought he was doing what he thought was best at the time with the circumstances we were under.” Nonnie said getting up and defending Frank.

“I can’t believe you are still defending him.” Joe snapped.

“I can’t believe you would date a girl who you had only met once rescuing a long time ago. It was so convenient for you to keep her number after you saved her life.” I snapped back at Joe. Maybe you are just crazy!” I snapped.

“Maybe you drove me to be this way!” Joe snapped back storming off upstairs.
“Sometimes, I just don’t know how to do this anymore.” Nonnie said almost in tears.

“Nonnie, Joe will calm down. He just cares about you is all.” Jenny said as Nonnie sat beside her.

“How about Frank and you come out on patrol with me and Patrick tomorrow night? We will take the first babysitting job.” Jenny smiled always being thoughtful and nice under any circumstance unless it involved something wrong with Patrick then she got territorial.

“I think Frank is leaving me tonight anyway.” Nonnie said looking down at her feet.

“Good!” Amanda snapped.

“Amanda! That was rude.” I said.

“I guess it is my job to find him.” She sighed.

“Nonnie, you come with Amanda and me and I am sure you can track him down tonight.” Erelin replied.

“How would I do that?” She asked.

“It’s in his bite. Just as he can find you from it, you can know when you are close around him. It’s sort of a tracking device if you will.” I spoke up. I know this all too well. Even as a vampire, I have that problem of Ian finding me. The nightmares do not stop.

“You guys just be careful tonight.” Pete said hugging my sister and then Nonnie.

“Hey, I got let off tonight. Am I late to join the party tonight?” Sisky said as he walked in the door. I had left it unlocked.

“Actually, you are just in time.” Amanda said running over to him and kissing him. I had to turn away as Sisky’s eyes found mine.

“Do you want to come out and slay, I mean, uh, help find Frank with Erelin, Nonnie, and me tonight?” She asked.

“Sure.” He replied.

“Good. I will fill you in about everything in the car.” Amanda replied smiling at Sisky. This was one of her happy moments when they were both together and slaying together.

“There will be no killing of Frank of any kind.” Nonnie said getting up to head out the front door.

“Alright, fine.” Amanda said sighing as she followed Sisky out the front door.

“Erelin, keep an eye on Amanda. Don’t let her do anything stupid.” Patrick said laughing.

“I won’t.” She laughed.
