One Night Stand

Chapter Three

I opened my eyes and observed where I was. I didn't know. I rolled over and saw Del clinging to the black sheets in her sleep, last night came rushing back to me in a second. It was amazing, still wasn't sure whether she liked it or not. I pushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear waking her up.

"Morning," I mumbled looking down at her breasts... couldn't help myself. It was a shame she insisted on changing afterwards, she was now wearing a tank top and underwear.

"Um, hi." She said uncomfortably before getting up and going into the bathroom. I watched her as she left the room before getting up and slipping on my boxers. While I waited for Del to come back out I decided to explore her room to find out a bit more about her, she was always so closed off.

I walked over to her desk and looked at some of the papers on it. There were a few job applications, some maths coursework and, the thing that interested me the most, a picture of her and some guy kissing her cheek.

"What are you doing with that?" Del asked snatching the picture from me and putting it in the same box that she had previously put the CD in. I cleared my throat before trying to change the subject.

"You like math?" I asked lamely pointing to the coursework on her desk. I looked up at her and realised that she had just come out of the shower. Her hair was wet and only the towel rapped around her was covering her body.

"Yeah. I'm doing a Master of Mathematics right now." She said smiling at the thought.

"Really? Cool." I said smiling at her.

"Are you going to uni?" She asked looking hopeful.

"Nah, I just got a job as a journalist at a newspaper, my dad's like the CEO or something... I don't talk to him much." I said frowning slightly. She frowned before walking over to me and kissing me on the lips. I rapped her arms around her and tried to lift the towel up but she, unfortunately, stopped me.

"I'm gonna go get dressed." She said sheepishly, almost ashamed of what she did. It was kind of amusing. I went to make breakfast as she got dressed. I made some coffee and looked in the fridge as she same out in a pair of blue skinny jeans and a grey V-neck.

"Uh, your fridge is kinda empty." I told her searching for something to make breakfast out of.

"Um, yeah.... I, uh, I need to go shopping." She said avoiding eye contact. It really annoyed me when she did that.

"Why do you always do that?" I asked staring at her quizzically.

"Do what?" She asked staring at her hands.

"Avoid eye contact," she lifted her head as I said this "You never, or very rarely, look at me in the eyes. Why?"

"I don't know." She replied before looking away.

"That's it!" I exclaimed before walking over to her and pinning her against the wall. She looked at me, fear evident in her eyes.

"When I talk to you, could you please, please look at me? I hate people who don't make eye contact, they seem so... insincere." I whispered the last word seductively in her ear. She opened her mouth to say something but the sound of the doorbell ringing cut her off.

"I-I have to get that." She told me before moving towards the door. She looked through the peephole before hesitantly placing her hand on the door knob without turning it. She stood like that for a couple of seconds before finally opening the door.

Max stood there shocked as she stared at me. But her shocked expression quickly transformed into a smirk as she turned to a sheepish looking Del. "Well, well, well. What do we have here?" She said stepping through the threshold.

"Hi, Max. Come on in." Del mumbled sarcastically, closing the door behind her bestfriend.

"Sorry, I guess you guys were busy, huh?" She asked winking at Del as she stood next to me. "Yeah!" I exclaimed rapping an arm around her.

"No!" She said shrugging my arm off and moving away from me. "I-I m-mean, uh, it's not- you've got it- Ugh! I need to get ready for work." She finished turning towards me.

"You don't have a job." Max told her raising an eyebrow.

"No, but I, um, well you see, uh-"

"She's got a job interview." I said saving her from her stuttering fit. She started to nod in confirmation but stopped as soon as I spoke again. "I'm taking her to it... She said I was her good luck charm." I couldn't help but smirk at her glare.

"Yeah, so you're gonna have to leave." She said to Max who merely held up her hands in mock surrender before leaving. As soon as Del closed the door behind the red head she turned to me, as serious expression set upon her face.

"What the hell?" She asked angrily.

"I guess, considering that everyone thinks we're spending the day together, maybe we should."

"Should what?" She asked furrowing her brow in confusion.

"Spend the day together."

"No." She stated firmly before moving to the kitchen. She started searching through fridge before slamming the door shut.

"You should," She stopped and looked at what I was wearing, or rather what I wasn't. "Maybe change and leave. I need to go shopping for food." She walked past me and grabbed a black coat and keys.

"You leaving now?" I asked walking into her bedroom to find my clothes.

"Um, was planning to, yeah. Why?" She said staring at the keys in her hands.

"I'll come with you." I said firmly once I was fully clothed.

"D-don't you need t-to take a shower?" She stuttered nervously trying to find some sort of excuse.

"I'll have one when we get back. Unless you want to wait for me now..."

"Let's go." She sighed before opening the door and locking it behind us once we were in the hallway. I couldn't help but observe her as we made our way to my car after getting out of the lift. Even the way she walked was timid and awkward.

The car ride was completely silent. It was a nice change, the usual birds I spend the night with are so clingy and can't stop talking. The next morning I usually can't wait to get shot of them. But on rare occasion, as such, I would enjoy the company for a while.

I pulled into the car park of the first supermarket we came across and watched as Del went to get a trolley. "What?" She asked when she returned.

"Nothing." I smiled before rapping an arm around her and leading her towards the double doors. I squeezed her tighter when I felt her tense up at my touch. "Relax," I breathed in her ear, trying not to laugh at the thought of always having to remind her.

"Sorry."

"Don't apologize." I told her rolling my eyes.

"Sor- It's just that... you know, I mean we're acting all... couply. It's weird." I couldn't stop the laugh leaving my lips when she said 'weird'.

"Does it matter?" I asked smiling.

"Yes, it does! What will people think? They'll think I'm a slut, that I jump from one guy to the other!"

"Don't be stupid. They would think you're slut if you didn't act 'couply' and just made out a lot." I said moving my arm so she could get a few cans from the shelves.

"I guess," She mumbled before picking up a tin of baked beans making me snort in amusement. She glared playfully before speaking.

"Don't bash the beans." I just shook my head before helping her reach for something on a higher shelf. She mumbled a 'thanks', placing the items in the trolley.

The shopping went quickly, too quickly for my taste. She was finally loosening up a bit by the time we reached the check out. "I forgot to get toothpaste," She said before turning. I gently grabbed her arm before telling her that I could get it for her. Because I'm just a gentleman like that. She told me her favourite brand before letting me go to the right aisle.

Once I had found the right toothpaste I made my way back to the checkout only to see Del with some random guy. She looked like she had just seen a ghost but was covering it up with a fake smile. "I got your toothpaste." I said making her jump and look at me.

"O-oh, thank-thank you."

"Who's he?" The guy said shooting me a dirty look.

"He's Brian. Jase and Max's friend." She told him. 'Oh, so for me it's stuttering and nervousness but with him it just flows out.' I thought jealously, which surprised me. I'm not usually one to get jealous. 'And always nice to introduced as a friend by the women you've slept with but a friend of a friend, that's just perfect.'

"Brian? The guy who sleeps around?" He asked keeping his eyes glued to Del.

"Uh..."

"Yep, that's me." I spat glaring at him. "But I've decided to settle down. You know, stick to one girl." I said rapping an arm around Del.

"Del, Seriously? You're going out with him? Already?" He spat each word venomously until 'already'. He sounded truly hurt when he said it.

"No, we're not," She pushed my arm off of her "going out. He just messing with you causing you're acting like a jealous prick." I stared at her in shock. That was the first insulting thing she's said to anyone in my presence, ever.

"Um, excuse me?" We turned around to see a sheepish cashier. "You're holding up the line." I looked back to see that we were indeed holding everyone up. The random guy, obviously Del's ex or something like that, turned to leave. He didn't look sure on how to react to what she had said, it was obvious that she didn't stand up for herself very often.Del sighed before pulling out her purse to pay. "I'll pay." I said doing the same.

"Don't be ridiculous. It's my grocery shopping, I should pay. "

"You don't have a job, I do. I should pay.Plus, I'll be using this stuff too." I handed my credit card over to the cashier and entered my pin.

"What do you mean 'you'll be using this stuff too'?" She questioned, following me out to the car park.

"Well, because you only see me as 'Jase and Max's friend' I'll have to spend more time with you, and therefore at your place, using your stuff, to become more to you." I said smirking leaving her dumbstruck.
