Gold, Guns, Girls

Chapter Thirteen.

Cameron watched the way the sleeve of Olivia's over sized, gray cardigan fell from her shoulder, exposing her pale, freckled skin to him. Her ringlet curls were in slight disarray from rolling around on the grass, and most of her make-up had come off when she had cried for an entire hour after she got in an argument with Topher. He knew that was his fault. They were most definitely fighting about her relationship with him, especially since he seems to flaunt it when Topher was in their presence. He felt bad because she obviously hated fighting with Topher, but Cameron couldn't help himself. Whenever Topher touched her, he felt this unpleasant feeling coiling deep in his gut, and the only way to relieve it was by getting under Topher's skin. Olivia seemed to be the best way to do that.

Olivia giggled at something Cameron had said, covering her pale pink lips with her hand. Cameron watched the way her long eyelashes fluttered, and her hair moved in the breeze. He smiled, leaning back on his elbows and looking up at the slowly setting sun. When Olivia regained her composure, she following his suit, leaning back onto the grass. "Sunsets are so pretty."

"Yeah." Cameron agreed, turning his head to the side to look at her. He couldn't help but notice the way her hair and lips were the same saturated orange and peachy pink colours as the sky. His eyes trailed downwards, eying her chest as it rised and fell with her breathing. Her small breasts bounced slightly, and he licked his lips, feeling the incredible urge to press his mouth against the soft looking skin of her neck. He was always aware of the fact that Olivia was a pretty girl. After all, she was his best friend and they saw a lot of each other. However, he had never actually realized just how beautiful she was. It was the kind of beautiful that never got old. That kind that he had never been able to fully appreciate until he had really looked at her.

And it was at that moment when Cameron realized he had always been kind of attracted to his best friend. Perhaps that was why he could spend so much time with her without getting bored. Olivia was just so sweet and innocent--Completely unlike any girl Cameron had ever met. The mere thought of him being able to take that innocence away made his heart pound violently against his ribcage. The thought of those pale pink lips on his skin sent shivers down his spine. He wasn't exactly sure if it was the kind of attraction that compelled him to start a relationship with her. It was an attraction fueled by lust--Cameron desired Olivia. What he wanted was to be intimate with his best friend, Olivia Stewart, if only for one night.

Because he had Heather. He had her and he loved her very much. He couldn't see himself being in a relationship with anybody else, because they had been together for nearly seven months, and the sex hadn't gotten boring yet. Just sitting with her and talking with her hadn't gotten boring yet. He wasn't sure if it ever would get boring because Cameron felt a lot of the same things he felt for Olivia for Heather.

"My pocket is vibrating." Olivia muttered, reaching into the pocket of her cardigan and pulling out her phone. She glanced at Cameron very quickly before she flipped open the phone, rising from the ground and moving away a short distance to answer the call. He scoffed very quietly, knowing that the caller was most certainly Topher, most likely looking to pick another argument with his sensitive girlfriend. Cameron honestly didn't know what was wrong with this guy. If he were Topher, he wouldn't be calling Olivia to fight about this--He'd be paying a special visit to his house to work it out with his fists.

Cameron sat up, watching as Olivia paced back and forth, her lips moving quickly as she spoke into her phone. The call last five minutes before she snapped her phone shut, walking back to Cameron with a soft smile on her face. He eyed her curiously, and Olivia blushed, shrugging her shoulders. "We're good now."

"Oh, really?" He wanted to roll his eyes, but he instead, he chose to smile for his friend considering the fact that she seemed to be thrilled by this.

"Yeah." Her smiled slightly faded, and she nibbled her bottom lip. "But under one condition."

He raised his brow. "And what's that?"

"I have to go over there right now and spend the evening with him." Olivia said, and the two fell silent. Cameron frowned, and he looked down at his hands as he pulled at the grass. Olivia felt her heart sink, for she had never meant to hurt his feelings like she had. Surely, he would have been able to understand where she was coming from, seeing as he had ditched her for Heather many times before. But no, he certainly wasn't happy about this. His eyes said it all.

"So, I guess you'll be going now." He said quietly.

"Come on, Cameron." She whined. "Don't be like that. We can hang out any other time."

He nodded. "I guess I'll see you later, Livs."

He stood up from the grass, opening his arms just wide enough for Olivia's body to curl inside them. She did so, pressing his cheek against his chest and sighing, feeling content in his embrace. Cameron kissed the top of her head, sighing too. "I had fun with you today, Cam. Did you?"

He smiled crookedly, giving her waist a gentle squeeze. "I always have fun with you, Livs."

Olivia smiled warmly at Mrs. Stevens before entering Topher's bedroom and shutting the door very softly behind her. He was laying on his bed, face-down on his pillows. She giggled, crossing the room and getting onto the bed beside him. He slowly turned his head to look at her, his wide blue eyes watching her in admiration.

"I'm so sorry." Was the first thing he said, and he turned his body too, wrapping his arms around her. "I can't even tell you how completely shitty I feel about this. Cameron just pissed me off and I took it out on you, and I'm sorry. You didn't deserve it at all."

Olivia leaned forward, pressing her lips to his. His could feel the corners of her lips turn upwards, and he smiled too, placing his hands on the small of her back and guiding her body closer to his. Her fingers were busy playing his his unreasonably soft, brown hair, tugging at it playfully every so often and earning a quiet moan from Topher each time. He pulled away abruptly, grinning widely with an excited glint in his eyes. "Let's go for a drive somewhere." He suggested, and the next thing Olivia knew, they were in Topher's car, pulling out of his long driveway.

They drove out of their little suburb, and through bustling city. They drove for nearly an hour and a half, and passed through the next town over. It wasn't until they were in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nothing but fields, did they decide to stop. It was after Olivia asked Topher why the fields were sparkling the way they were, and he laughed, telling her that they were only fireflies. Olivia had never seen fireflies before, for she had never really driven around these parts at the time when they came out. She was intrigued by the way the fields were flickering with millions of tiny, little lights, and Topher noticed. So, he stopped the car at the side of the dirt road, and reached into his glove compartment for a small flashlight. He sent Olivia a bright smile before sliding out of the car, and she did to.

The ventured deep into the fields on tall grass and goldenrod, and Topher taught her how to properly catch a firefly. See accidentally squished the first few, much to her dismay, but when she finally trapped one between her hands, and felt it buzzing between her palms--Saw the weak light flickering from the cracks between her fingers, she felt her heart swell. She looked up at Topher, and he grinned, his hands encased around a firefly of his own.

And as they let their fireflies go at the same time, Olivia turned her head to look at Topher that same admiring way he had looked at him earlier that night. His attention was one the field around them, watching as the flickering lights buzzed past. His hands were in the pockets of his gray, zip-up sweater, and he wore a very light smile on his face. He then turned his head to look at her, as if he had sensed her gaze, his smile widening to a grin, and he reached over and took her hand. He kissed his forehead very lightly before looking back to the sky, and it was at that moment while Olivia was watching him as he stared up at the stars, that she realized she could fall in love with this boy.
