When I Turned The Television On.

| Alice Midorikawa |

I walk around my room as I continue to talk to Renn on the phone.

"Oh, Renn. Thank you for your help. I'll try not to tear magazines anymore."
"No, Alice. Don't try. You have to do it."
"But..."
"No buts. I'm your friend, remember?"
"Okay... whatever."
"Promise?"
"Yes, I promise."
"Good. Alrighty, then. I have to go already. Take care, okay? Love ya, Alice."
"Sure, sure. Same to you too."
"Bye, Alice! See you tomorrow!"
"Goodbye, Renn."

The line goes dead.
I click the 'End' button on the phone and put it back on the receiver.
I sit down on my chair and get a hair tie.
I tie my hair in a ponytail and turn my desk light on.
I take out my school books from my bag and place them on my table.
Hmm. Food might make me much livelier.

I stand up from my seat when the door swings open.
I jump back in surprise and hold on to my chair.

"Holy crap, mom! What the hell?"
"Sorry, dear."
"What is it?"
"Good news! I found your long lost cousin!"

I stare blankly at her.

"...what."
"Yes, Alice! Your long lost cousin you haven't seen for years!"
"Seriously...?"
"Yes, I'm serious! He's with me right now."
"Where? How? Why?"
"Simon! Come over here."

A guy steps forward awkwardly.
I nearly cry of laughter.

He wore sunglasses with a matching French hat.
He wore a grayish-brown shirt over his body and skimpy jeans.
And last but not the least, he wore on his feet, CLOGS.

I could sense the awkwardness surrounding him.
I try to hold back my laughter, but it escapes my mouth easily.

"He's my long lost cousin? Simon, was it?"
"Yes, dear. Why are you laughing?"
"Are you kidding, mom? He looks so nerdy and weird!"
"He's the same age as you, darling."
"Really. Oh wow," I replied with sarcasm.

Simon clears his throat and interrupts our conversation.

"Nice to meet you, Alice. My name is Simon Parker, your long lost cousin. I've... missed you."

He glances at mom and she winks at him. He reaches for his sunglasses and takes it out from his eyes.

Oh. My. God.

It can't be.

It mustn't be him.

Those light gray eyes...

Could it be...
Seth Paver?

...no way.
