Leaving It All Behind

Wings

Something felt... wrong.
Ainsley turned her body to face the alarm clock on the nightstand, it was 2 am.
Still, she felt funny, so she got up to check out the house. As she rounded the corned of the hallway and came up to Cael's room, she heard a strange noise, as if something were ripping out of flesh, unfurling.
"Cael, is everything alright in there?" she lightly tapped on the door, but the only noise she got back sounded like wings hitting air. Did he have an owl in there?
Suddenly, Ainsley heard glass shatter, and made the quick decision to walk in.
"Dhia dhílis!"
Wings. Giant, fluffy white wings were attached to Cael's back where normaly shoulder blades would portrude. Very slowly, they closed, and Cael turned around to stare Ainsley in the eyes.
"Are you fucking serious?" Ainsley's eyebrows were halfway up her forehead, and her mouth sat agape.
"Ainsley please. Sit." She gingerly turned and strided to the living room, and sat down, then looked to Cael expectantly.
"What are you?"
"In your language, I am known as an angel." Ainsley saw determination in his eyes.
"Wh- what are you doing here?"
"Learning about you humans. Fascinating actually." She tilted her head and looked confused for a moment.
"Is that what God sent you here for?" Cael let out a frustrated sigh and rubbed his jaw.
"No. I do not understand why you humans associate us to this 'God', I have never spoken
to him, and if he did give me a mission, I would most likely refuse." Cael's smirk dropped when
he saw Ainsley's shocked expression.
"But- it can't be. What about Gabriel, or Michael?" Again Cael sighed.
"Just some megalomaniac angels who interfered too much in human affairs, we have rules against that now."
In the next moment, Ainsley began to cry.
Cael could not deny his nature, he sat next to her on the couch and wrapped his whole
body around her, letting his wings lay softly on her back.
Ever slowly, Ainsley's tears subsided into small hiccups, and she tilted her face up to let her gaze meet his. Her neck craned and far as it could, and as Cael closed the distance, their
lips touched softly, sending conforting waves into their bodies.
With this simple contact of flesh, Cael saw Ainsley's life.

Three girls and two boys kneeled infront of their small beds inside a dimly
lit room. Their mother signaled they begin.
A Spioraid Naoimh, ar n-àrd-threise,
thig bho ghrian-chathair do ghlòir',
sgaoil gach ceò tha 'gar cur iomrall,
's leig soillsean dhe d' sholus oirnn.

Thig, O Athair nan dìol-deirce,
do gach feumach sìn do làmh;
an làmh bho'n tig gach rogha gibhte,
soilleirich gach cridhe dall.

A Righ na comh-fhurtach 's an t-sòlais,
bu tu Aoidh an àigh do'n anam;
chan fhairich e teas na ganntar,
's e 'nad làimh-sa 'triall gu aineol.

'S tu bheireadh furtach agus tàmh,
do'n phiantach a bhios fo sgìos;
a' mhal' air an laigh am pràmh,
's ann agads' tha sòlas di.

O Sholuis a's àille snuadh,
na bi'n dubhar oirnn 'nar càs;
is ann an crìdh' do cheideach gaoil,
beòthaich teine caomh do ghràidh.

Gun do chòmhnadh-sa, 'Dhia threin,
chan eil sgoinn am mac an duine;
chan eil ceann gun lochd fo'n ghrein,
's ann 'nad mheinn-sa tha sinn uile.

Glan-sa dhìnn gach uile thruailleachd,
uisgich le d' ghràsan ar tart;
leighis gach anam a tha leòinte,
strìochd na rag-mhuinealaich ri d' reachd.

Taisich nèimh a' chridhe chruaidh,
bi'd chairt-ìuil dhuinn anns gach gàbhadh,
's do na creidich 'tha 'nad earbsa,
thoir seachd tìodhlaicean do ghràidh.

Treòirich na creidich ri'm beò,
's na treig iad an uair am bàis;
sàbhail an anam bho phian,
's gu meal iad do shìth gu bràth.

After they had finished, their mother kissed each on the forehead and made the sign of the cross over their hearts. After all were tucked in, she turned off the lights and wispered softly.
"Oíche mhaith clann"

Cael wished he had never told her the truth and caused her so much pain. But, in a way, he was glad she would not be bound by those strict rules and would never feel
guilty for doing things that came naturally. Things he planned on introducing her to.
