Princess Adeline Amherst of the Southern Kingdom is flamboyant, precise, well-mannered, and very energetic. She was raised to wed Prince Nathan Alexander of the Northern Kingdom. This decision was made by their parents so the two nations could band together to fight the "evil" creatures that were threatening their extravagant lifestyles. Adeline of course doesn't want to get married to someone she doesn't know, but must keep it a secret because her desire to please her family burns deeper than her selfishness.
Adeline's lifetime friend, Christian, has a secret too. The night before she is to be taken away, he confesses to her that he is a vampire, a forbbiden race in their time. She goes in panic and tells him that she never wants to see him again, but this delves her into deep depression as she is married to the gorgeous Prince Nathan, who doesn't particularily care for her at all.
