Dying to be Thin

Hello.

My name is Adison Susannah Reeves.

And my name is Anorexia Nervosa,

Ana for short.

Eighty percent,

Of girls under 16,

Starve themselves for me.

Look around you.

Your daughter,

Your sister,

Your girlfriend

Your best friend.

I could be talking to any one of them,

Right now.

Reciting rhymes about her thighs,

Her hips,

Her stomach,

Her
fat.

She’ll do whatever I tell her to do,

If it means she’ll drop a pound.

Or two.

Or ten.

She won’t tell you,

No,

She’ll lose in silence.

Skipping meals when no one’s around,

Regurgitating,

What she’s forced to swallow.

And you will never even know.

I’m secretive that way.

I hide and lie,

Deceive and manipulate,

Festering inside her brain,

Until I’m all she can think about,

All she can listen to.

You think you can win.

You think you can beat me,

With therapy and rehab.

Talk me out,

Fatten her up,

Teach her its okay,

For her body to jiggle,

Every time she takes a step.

But it isn’t okay,

And I’ll make sure she knows it,

Every hour,

Of every day,

Of every week,

Of every month,

Of every year.

And then finally,

One day,

She’ll give in completely,

And I’ll take over,

Transforming her into someone beautiful,

Someone who deserves me,

Someone
perfect.

And by then,

She’ll never live again.

You think you can win?

Trust me,

Adison is just
one of my creations.
