The Dream Isn't Done

a beginning

There are two tragedies in life: one,
is to lose your heart's desire.
The other, is to gain it.

“Are we soon done?” I asked, quite impatiently.

“Just one more moment.” The blonde sitting directly opposite of me scrawled a few more notes on the paper in front of her. I tapped my nails against the chair I was sitting in. I had waited ten months - one more moment would be nothing.

Judith, the blonde, looked up and shot me a warm smile. “Okay, Quinn, one more signature and it’s done.”

“It’s about time,” I murmured. Letting out a sigh, I rubbed my hands together. “I can’t believe this is it. It’s finally happening.”

“I’m glad for you,” Judith replied, smiling at me over the desk between us. “You truly deserve this, Quinn. I know everything will work out wonderfully.”

Judith slid over a piece of paper and handed me a pen. “Sign here,” she told me, pointing to the bottom of the page. “Cross the t’s and dot the I’s, and then it’s done.”

Then it’s done. I had waited for this moment for such a long time. All I had dreamed of for the past ten months was for Judith to look at me and say “It’s done”, and here it was. Done.

As I scrawled Quinn Hume across the dotted line, I couldn’t help but think how much Alexandre would have loved this, about how much he would have enjoyed this experience. I slid the paper back across the desk to Judith and smiled.

“Are you ready?” Judith asked me after she had slipped my signed paper into a folder.

I nodded. ‘I’ve been ready.”

Judith chuckled at my eagerness before standing up. “Come on, Quinn. There’s someone you need to meet.”

I stood up, smoothing down my skirt, following Judith out of her office. A young couple was sitting in the waiting area, waiting impatiently for Judith to finish with me.

“In here, Quinn,” she said, opening a door in the corner of the room. ‘She’s in here.”

This was it. This was finally it. After waiting so long, it was going to happen. After hundreds of paper signings, meetings with Judith and her associates, answering questions, this was finally all over. I was finally able to start my life over. Finally.

I followed Judith into the rather empty room, where a young brunette was waiting for us.

“Here she is,” Judith murmured, keeping her voice soft. “Here she is.”

Judith paused inside the door, while I walked up to the young girl.

“Here you go, Mrs. Hume.” The young girl smiled up at me while transferring the mass of blankets into my arms.

I smiled down at the mass in my arms. I pulled the blankets out of her face, taking in her ever feature.

“Hello baby girl,” I whispered. She took my finger in her tiny hand, letting out a small yawn. “Hey. I’m gonna be your mom.”

As the small girl stared up at me, her dark brown eyes meeting my own, I let out a small giggle. “I’m your mom.”

“Congratulations Quinn,” Judith said to me, coming up behind and laying a hand on my shoulder. “I’m sure you two will be happy together.”

“Thank you, Judith. For everything.”

Judith smiled at me before saying, “Don’t mention it. Good luck with everything, Quinn.” She squeezed my shoulder, leaving me alone with my daughter.

“Brooke Maria,” I murmured to the silence. She was beautiful. She was exactly what I had been waiting for. “Alex would I have loved you, Brooke.”

La fin - The end.

This is it... it's over :(

I want to dedicate this chapter to everyone whose every read, commented, or subscribed to this story. I've loved writing this story and I hope that you all felt the same way. Makes me sad to end it, but all good things come to an end, right?

Also, I just want to put it out there that the baby's name was influenced by brookiekillskittens. Think of it as making-up for killing off Alex :)
