When Somebody Loved Me

lives within my heart

“Go!” The stage manager said to my band and me, and we all ran out on the stage.

The screams were ear-piercing, and that was only just for us. I couldn’t imagine what it’s like for the boys now.

We did our set, having the time of our lives, excited to be performing together again.

Everyone loved the new songs, especially We Intertwined.

“Okay, it’s been a blast performing for you guys, and we really appreciate everything from you. So, our last song is written by our own band member Derek! Let’s give it up for him!” I yelled to the crowd, and they screamed more ear-piercing screams.

He stepped up next to me, smiling.

“Okay, Derek, take us home!” I smiled, getting my trumpet from one of the stage crew members.

Aiden had the tambourine, and Drake had the acoustic guitar, and Jake took the drums.

The lions roar and young men soar
The flames all scorch the circus floor
Puppets on string all dance and sing and flap their wings
Trumpets play sick lullabies

Delicate dame her fragile face
Was scared away without a trace
Out in the cold, where did she go?
Into unknown a place I'll never

Know and the desperate search began
All across this sea and land
I just knew I'd find you here
I just knew I'd find you

Elephants rear and young men steer
The audience just claps and cheers
I asked around half empty towns
About a girl nowhere to be found

And the desperate search began
All across this sea and land
I just knew I'd find you here
I just knew I'd find you

We didn't know, we could not go
The circus songs just carried on
Out of the crowd three men rush out
And scream and shout, "Everybody Stop!"

The crowd went insane with cheering.

We bowed, getting louder cheers, and ran off stage.

“Awesome job, Derek!” I smiled, highfiving him.

“Thanks.” He beamed. “I think they liked it.”

“That was great, everyone!” Mr. Jonas smiled, and we thanked him. “You looked good up there again. You looked home.”

I smiled as he gave me a sly wink. He knew I really loved it up there, no matter how much I said I hated it. “Well…uhm…I’m gonna go get some rest. I forgot how tiring it is to be up there.” I bid my farewells to everyone and went back on the bus.

After showering and changing into some sweatpants and shirt, I grabbed my acoustic guitar and sat on the couch, just messing around.

I started thinking about Nick, letting the minutes go by quickly. The image of his face was stuck in my head, causing me to get butterflies in my stomach. Gosh…even when I’m not looking at him, he still gives me knots.

A tune came to my mind, along with some words, so I decided to try it out.

Haven’t you heard
I’m stuck on a verse
I’m stuck on a boy who
Fills me with joy
I knew I was wrong to
Jump straight on into
This picture so pretty,
But he is so pretty to me

And he doesn’t know
Just how far I would go
Just to kiss him
He doesn’t know how I pine

So I make whirlpools
And watch him sparkle
And we’ll make love, make magic

And haven’t you heard
I’ve fallen head first
And he loves me so
We’re two in a row
Just look in his eyes
They’re brown as mud pies are
Picture so pretty,
But he is so pretty to me

So I’ll make whirlpools
And watch him sparkle
And we’ll make love, make magic

But I couldn’t tell you
Just how love it takes you
‘cause words don’t make
What I make with him

Haven’t you heard
I’m stuck on a verse
I’m stuck on a boy
Who fills me with joy
I knew I was wrong
To jump straight on into
This picture so pretty,
But he is so pretty to me

Someone cleared their throat, and I snapped my head in the direction.

I gasped lightly, going wide-eyed.

Nick was standing there, just staring at me.

I bit my lip after a few minutes of silence, so I bolted over to my bunk and closed the curtain.

I can’t believe he heard that….
Great, now he’s never going to get back together with me!
Maybe I should just give up.
