Field of Corpses

Join Me In Death

Minutes after minutes went by, and Christian and Billie never stopped eating. They could have a long time ago; they could have taken the food with, but they saw no reason to wait. Christian just ate pounds of raw, rotted meat, and Billie had finished off his pile of dog food to tear open another bag. Nothing could have stopped them from finally being able to take care of their needs, and they took that advantage.

Animals always had a sense of when something was about to go wrong, though. No matter what it was, most dogs usually were able to tell when they themselves, or their master was about to get into trouble. Billie had sensed something was wrong now, and he left his dog food behind him. He quickly went into the back of the store, finding the open freezer door.

He sat next to Christian, still eating, and began to whimper. He wanted to get out of the store, and possibly the area, but Christian wasn't understanding. Christian only thought the dog was still hungry.

"Here," Christian said nonchalantly, tossing a steak in front of Billie, "eat up."

Billie just sat there though, staring up at Christian, and Christian finally took notice. The dog had a look in his eyes, letting him know that something wasn't right. He couldn't tell though, so he only stopped chewing his food to stare back at the dog. The dog was getting antsy now, so he stood on all fours, waiting for Christian to stand up. Christian still didn't know what was going on, but he didn't want to leave all the food behind now that he had an endless supply.

He knew the dog was wanting to leave though, now, so he started to get back onto his feet. With a sigh he stood, and started to grab as many packaged meat products as he could. It only made his dog more anxious, but Christian didn't seem to care. He was more concerned about his meat.

After a minute of gathering food, Christian finally couldn't hold anymore. He scuffed his feet as he walked back through the door, and Billie took off running into the rest of the store. Christian pulled a face, but he knew the dog wasn't going to leave him. He just walked casually back through the store, and then back outside. He walked to his car, and dumped all the meat into the trunk.

Billie was already sitting in the car waiting, but by the time Christian shut the door to the trunk, it would have taken too long to even start the car.

Christian looked up towards the entrance to the parking lot, and he saw a few zombie running towards his direction. He panicked and didn't even bother to try and start his car. He just grabbed his dog and ran as fast as he could in another direction. Luckily, two of the zombies were more interested in the meat locked up in the trunk, so they completely ignored Christian and his dog.

Still though, that left one zombie running after Christian. He wasn't the fastest zombie, luckily, but he was still as fast as Christian could be. Either way, he was going to get that dog, and possibly Christian. Christian didn't know that, but he was too unwilling to give up his dog so easily.

Down the road a little ways away was a car speeding down the middle of the two lanes. It was an old Camero, and the driver was actually a zombie. A half-dead zombie, but she was still a zombie. She was a little nuts, but she was coming up quick.

She drove past zombies off to the side of the road, and didn't think much of them, even though they were on the ground. They looked like they had been attacked, but it didn't catch her attention. Gloria was too high and wrapped up in driving fast to care. She wouldn't have cared about anything at all, but she couldn't help but to see a bright red Corvette in the parking lot to an old store.

She slammed on the breaks, and reversed the car quickly. She pulled into the parking lot to see two zombies destroying the red car, and they were doing a good job of it. She had no idea why, but they seemed eager to get something. It struck her curiosity, so she payed close attention as she slowly got closer.

The two zombies got the trunk open somehow, and instantly Gloria could smell a strong stench. It smelled good though, and she instantly knew what it was. It was meat; it was her food.

Still in her 'good mood', she sped up, and went to drive into the two zombies before they could get a hold of her food. She slammed into them, and the one instantly separated into two parts; top and half. The other had a leg and arm fly off, which wasn't good enough for Gloria.

She got out of the car, and ran over to the two zombies. She ripped both of their heads off, and chucked them across the parking lot. She smiled wickedly at how pleased she was with herself for getting the food first, but she still couldn't help but wonder what the red car was doing by itself. A car by itself with a trunk full of meat.

She pushed aside her curiosity, and grabbed the meat from the trunk to put it in her car. She had enough food for a few days now, and the trip to California was going to be great. She was about to get back into her car to pursue her California Trip, but she couldn't help but notice a dog running across the parking lot, a few yard away.

"What the fuck?" Gloria said under her breath.

She started to walk towards where she saw the dog running from, and that's when she saw something else running. She was taken back to see a human-like person running after the dog. He looked like he was still completely alive, and she wanted nothing more than to make a new 'friend' now. That was until she saw a zombie chasing after the guy.

Gloria was going to have nothing of the sort; she killed the last live-person she came across, so she was not going to let herself do that again. For some reason, it angered her to see a zombie after that guy, so she took off running after him.

She ran to where they had ran, and wasn't going to stop until she ended that zombie's existence. He didn't deserve to walk this ground anymore than she did, but she was much too selfish now to care about things like that.

She reached the zombie, and he saw she was too late. He was hunched over the guy, and was trying to eat the skin off his chest. It made her think back to how her mother died, so it set a fire off inside of her. A feeling she never thought she'd feel again, but anger was intense now. She wanted nothing more than to beat the hell out of this zombie for killing her last chance.

She pounced onto the zombie, tearing him away from the guy on the ground, and she began beating him until he couldn't move. She finished the zombie off by tearing off his head, like always, and stared angrily at his limp corpse. She stared for minutes, until she finally remembered her 'friend' behind her.

She turned around slowly, and walked over to the body. She knelt down, and placed one hand on his head, and the other on his chest. She was just looking at him, and she was noticing how beautiful he was.

His green eyes are breath taking, and his facial features were stunning. Something about this random guy made her feel like falling in love, which would have been possible, in a way, because he was dead. Still, she didn't believe in love, and there was no way a human could turn into a zombie after being killed by one.

She closed her eyes, and kept her hands in place. She wished she could cry...

"W-why aren't you killing me?" A soft voice asked.

Gloria opened her eyes instantaneously and stared down at the body under her. "W-what the fuck?!"

Christian stared up at her in shock, and tried to lay still. He wasn't sure of what to do. There was a zombie over him, and she wasn't trying to eat him. He knew that zombies didn't eat one another, but he wasn't really too dead yet. He was only a little bit past the expiration date.

"How aren't you dead?" Gloria asked as she stared wide-eyed at this incredible sight.

"What do you mean? I've been dead for years."

Gloria just stared at him, and couldn't believe it. She had found the other half-dead! She was so taken back, and so unsure of what to do, she got close to his face and forcefully kissed him.

Christian should have been repulsed that a zombie was kissing him, but for some reason he didn't stop her. For some reason, the kiss actually felt... right.

They were both speechless after the kiss, but they didn't look away from each other for the longest time. They weren't going to either, at least that was until Gloria stood up quickly, and looked away from where Christian was on the ground. He was confused, but he stood up after her.

"What's wrong?"

"I-I...," Gloria stammered. "I don't know. I mean, I don't even know you, and I feel like... I shouldn't feel like... but I feel like... I mean. Zombies don't feel love."

Christian just stared at her, trying to find words, but he found nothing. He almost felt the same way; after all, this girl just saved his life.

"S-sure they can. You're still not completely dead, right?"

"Yea." Gloria said looking back at him. She was catching on to what he was trying to say.

"So, it's not weird. I mean, you look completely dead, but I don't think you are completely."

"I have to be. I was killed..."

"How?" Christian interrupted.

"I... I had this boyfriend when I was alive, alright? I fell in love, and he... he ended everything, thus ending my life."

"Shit. Someone murdered you emotionally too?"

"To me, murder would be an understatement, but I won't get dramatic, so sure. He murdered me emotionally."

"I know how it feels," Christian told Gloria. "I couldn't take my love being rejected any longer, emotionally, I guess, so... Now here I am. Dead."

"Not completely," Gloria corrected.

It made Christian smile.

"You smile too?" Gloria asked seriously.

"Yea. I can laugh too," He said mockingly.

Gloria ignored his comment. "It's weird. I smile, but I don't do it because something makes me. I smile because... I try to pretend..."

"I know how that goes," Christian admitted.

Gloria stared at Christian for a few seconds, then looked down at the ground. She was starting to feel stupid for kissing him. She was feeling stupid for even thinking she could feel love again. She was stupid.

"I'm sorry." Gloria told Christian.

"For?"

"Kissing you."

Christian scoffed, and cupped Gloria's chin with his hand. He got close to her face, and he kissed her. She might have felt bad for kissing him, but he liked it. It made him feel something he thought he'd never feel again. She made him feel things that he thought would never come back to life, and he didn't even know her.

He pulled away slowly, leaving her speechless again, but he just smiled at her. She looked down to twiddle with her thumbs, when she noticed her shirt.

"Fuck!" She screamed. "This was my last fucking Green Day shirt that wasn't torn!"

Automatically, Christian's attention went to the shirt, and his smile grew wide. "Green Day?! I fucking love Green Day! They're the only things keeping me alive!"

Gloria looked up at him slowly. "Oh. My. God. Me... Me too."

They stared at each other now; they knew this was meant to be. They didn't care if they didn't know each other, he wanted this zombie to be his. Because they were already dead, she could be his forever, and he was willing to give himself to her. She saved the rest of his life, and he didn't want to be separated from her now.

"Come with me to California?" He asked excitedly.

"Holy shit. You're going there too?"

This was getting a bit ironic now, and it was surprising to them. It was almost too good to be true. Of course she'd go with him though; she liked this guy from the get-go, even when she thought he was human.

"Yea, so you will?"

Gloria nodded her head quickly, and actually smiled. She had finally found the thing she swore she'd never find; someone she could be with. This person couldn't have been any better to her either. He loved the band she did, and she already felt like they connected. If she weren't so dead, she might have just experienced 'love at first sight'.
