Four years ago, Marissa, Joe's best friend and secret love, gave him the news that she was leaving for good, just a few days before her birthday. Joe didn't accept it and spent four years mouring for a relationship that never had a chance. Now, on the 4th birthday of her departure he goes back to their place, the old lake.
