Restart My Heart

Hey Stephen, boy you might have me believing

I finally faced Alex's large house, I mean mansion and rang the doorbell.

Surprisingly, Alex answered the door, not his butler whom had answered every time I went over in the past.

"Oh, hi," I said, unable to hide the surprise in my voice

"Your late, Levi," he said with narrowed eyes. I shivered as his perfec- haunting eyes stared me down. He was in sweats and a tight muscle T. It didn't take rocket science to know he was pissed

Good. "Sucks to see you too," I hissed and stepped in rudely passed him but not caring less

"So, Stephen drove you, huh?" he asked as he followed behind me down the stairs to the basement.

"Why are we at your house again?" I quickly changed the subject

"You wanna carry the drums? And anyways, I don't think you want me in your room looking threw your b-" he smirked

"Okay! I get it! No details," I snapped for him to shut up and continued descending down the stairs. I was here for barely two minutes and I already wanted to leave.

We padded past his jacuzzi and pool table and into his studio in silence. One more word from him and I would have found the nearest object in arms length to stab him; feeling his burning eyes smirking at my back was enough.

"Hey, Ruth," I said. She came over from her spot on the couch and hugged me. So good so far.

"Why didn't I get a hug?" Alex pouted as he plopped onto the couch and turned on the HD flat

"Think with your brain, not with your dick," I rolled my eyes

"Alright, you guys. Let's get started. Levi, did you bring the beginning of the song?" Ruth asked

I took the papers out of my bag relieved Ruth didn't give me a lecture for being late. Even if she did, it would have been worth it. Just the thought of taking a peek into Stephen's life made me smile. I sat at the other end of the couch contently and Ruth sat between us, scanning the song.

I slumped back, watching American Idol as Ruth scanned our song

"Your such a girl," I mumbled

"What's wrong with watching American Idol? The girls are hot," came the voice at the other end of the couch

I rolled my eyes, "Then just go search up some pron from the Internet."

"If it's not for hot girls then what? Simon?" he asked

Ruth sighed, "C'mon guys, can we just finish our assignment?"

"Ruth's right. We should be working instead of watching this so I can leave earlier," I agreed dryly

"Well, sorry for having such a shabby home. We are not worthy, Oh-So-Great Levi," Alex said, his voice dripping with sarcasm

I narrowed my eyebrows.

"Cut the crap, Alex. Turn the TV off so the people who actually want a good mark could focus," I said, taking the sheet from Ruth

"Now, you guys," Ruth hushed but neither of us listened

Alex got up and snatched it away from me.

"Who in the world said I don't want a good mark?" he narrowed his eyes too

"Please," Ruth hushed again

I ripped it away from him

"Yeah, but people like us actually want to work for it! We want a mark we deserve! Not bribing people with your dirty tactics!" I said with gritted teeth, snatching the paper from his hands

"I work for my good marks! And what the hell is a tactic?" Alex took the paper again

"What good marks?" I ripped it out of his hands

He lunged for the paper again but this time I wouldn't let him have it. I held into the paper tightly

Suddenly, the fight for the paper was like a fight to survive. Alex and I were yelling and pulling and screaming so hard, we couldn't hear Ruth's attempts to stop us and almost didn't hear our song rip.

But it did. I fell on the couch with one half of the paper and Alex fell on the carpeted floor with the other.

"You ripped it! Alex DiRoma, you ruined yet another important thing to me! Once again," I yelled, scrambling to my feet

Alex leaped onto his feet just as quickly and yelled, "Me? You ripped it and your blaming me again,"

"I'm blaming you again because it is your fault, again," I cried, shaking my half angrily in his face

I marched over to him, took the other half and collapsed on the couch, my back facing him.
I felt his eyes burning into the back of my skull but I ignored him while Ruth and I worked on the remains of the song in hushed tones while Alex grumbled and did God knows what on the ground.

We were deep in discussion when suddenly Alex comes and takes the paper away from us

"Again?" I asked in disbelief, staring at my empty hands

He ignored me and scribbled something down and handed it back to us without a word

I scanned his messy writing

"Your Beautiful?" I asked muffling a laugh

"And then end it with another repeat of the chorus," he ignored me and handed me the guitar.

Ruth scrabbled to scribble it down

As much as I hated following his idea, I sat in front of the microphone on a stool, finding myself excited to sing. Ruth started once again on the piano and I followed closely on the guitar. I sang

Everybody needs a song
A beautiful melody
When the night's are long
Cause there is no guarantee
That this life is easy

And then Alex came in with the drums

Yeah, when my world is falling apart
When there's no light to break up the dark
That's when I, I, I look at you
When the waves are flooding the shore and I
Can't find my way home anymore
That's when I, I, I look at you
When I look at you
When I look at you

I see forgiveness
I see the truth
You love me for who I am
Like the stars hold the moon
Right there where they belong and I know
I'm not alone

Yeah, when my world is falling apart
When there's no light to break up the dark
That's when I, I, I look at you
When the waves are flooding the shore and I
Can't find my way home anymore
That's when I, I, I look at you

You, appear, just like a dream to me
Just like kaleidoscope colors that
Cover me
All I need
Every breath, that I breathe
Dont'cha know?
Your beautiful
Yeah yeah...

When the waves are flooding the shore
And I cant find my way home anymore
That's when I,
I I look at you
I look at you
Yeah yeah..
Oh oh..

You appear just like a dream to me

The room grew silent.

I was surprised how the last sentence just flowed easily out of my mouth

"I liked the end!" I heard Ruth exclaim

I turned to see a smiling Ruth.

"I mean... the rest of the song is amazing, too. But what you said at the end is an amazing twist," she blushed

"That was amazing," I laughed happily at how amazing everything turned out.

"We had some errors but nothing we can't fix," Alex said, setting his sticks down

"Are you kidding? We are awesome! I loved it," I cried happily, like a child in a candy store, over-flowing with happiness.

Alex laughed. The sound of his laughter sounded so nostalgic, I shivered with pure bliss. I haven't heard him laugh like that in so long.

"Again!" I cried.

And so we played

Playing our hearts out.
