The Summer That Changed Everything

Surprises

I walked in the house after he was gone feeling content.

“Hey. Did you have fun?”

I smiled at my mom. “I had a blast.” I told her everything we did today.

“Well that sounds fun. Schuyler missed you.”

I walked over and picked her up. “Aww, I missed you, too.”

She giggled. “Is he your boyfriend?”

I laughed. “No silly. He’s just a friend. What did you do today?” I asked eager to change the subject.

“I paid in the sand.” She told me.

“You played in the sand all day?”

She shook her head. “We went to eat.”

“That’s pretty cool.”

We talked for awhile before I put her to bed. I told everyone good night then walked upstairs. I waited for him to text or call me, but he didn’t. I felt somewhat disappointed but shrugged it off. I put my phone down and closed my eyes ready for sleep when my phone went off. I groaned and sat up reluctantly.

New text from Daren.

Despite feeling exhausted I could feel my heart racing. I flipped open my phone opened the text.

Had an amazing time today, hope to see you soon.

I texted back.

Me too. Today was so much fun.

I sent that and waited for a few more minutes for him text back.

I’ve never had that much fun with a girl.

I felt my heart sink a little.

So you’ve taken other girl’s there?

It seemed to take forever for him to reply.

Well only a couple of times. But I never had any fun with them. I think I really like you Autumn.

I definitely wasn’t tired now.

You’re telling me this over the phone?

I guess so. Can’t wait to see you tomorrow.

Me either.

Good night Autumn.

Night Daren.

I fell asleep only a few seconds after my head hit the pillow.

I slept until 11, which was very unusual for me. When I got up and went downstairs I almost
had a heart attack.

“Good morning.”

“What are you doing here?”

He laughed. “I came to see you of course. You look nice.”

I looked down at what I was wearing, a white tank top and blue shorts. “Very funny.”

“I wasn’t joking.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Well you have 20 minutes.”

“For what?”

“To get ready. I’m taking you out.”

“Where?”

“You’ll see. Don’t forget your swim suit.”

I ran upstairs and got ready as fast as I could. I threw on some shorts and t tank over my
swim suit then ran downstairs.

“Let’s go.”

I followed him to his truck. “Now will you tell me?”

“Nope.”

“You knew I hate surprises, right?”

“I know.” He winked at me.

After about 20 minutes I couldn’t take it anymore. “Are we almost there?”

“Perhaps.” He smiled.

It only took 10 more minutes before we arrived. My mouth dropped and I looked at him.
