I've Looked Everywhere For You

I've Looked Everywhere for You - A Nick Jonas One-Shot

“Mommy! Can we go to the park?” my four year-old son, Alex asked me. I kneeled down to his level and smiled at him, moving his brown curls out of his deep chocolate brown eyes. “Sure sweetie, go get your shoes on and we’ll go!” I replied. He smiled and hugged me around my neck before going to his room. As he left, I stood upright and softly sighed. My name is Cassandra Rachelle Monroe, but I like to be called Cassie, and I am 22 years old. I have blond hair, in a bob and vivid green eyes. I’m someone who has been described by my friends as the tomboy and calm one of the group. Oh and if you haven’t caught on already, I’m a single mother. My son, Alexander Nicholas, is my life; my pride and joy. Yes, I had him when I was 18, but I would appreciate it if you didn’t judge me. If you knew the whole story behind it, you’d understand why I was raising him alone and without his father. But, let’s not get into that now, shall we? “Okay Mommy! I’m ready!!” Alex exclaimed as he ran out of his room, shoes tied and everything. I smiled; though he was young, he was very bright for his age and wise too. He then jumped into my arms and laughed. I placed a kiss on his cheek and put him on his feet again. “Alright, let’s go then.” I said as I took his hand and led him out of our house and to the park.

As we walked together, he’d occasionally ask me questions about why the sky was blue or why the grass was so green. I’d answer them as best I could but then he answered a question that stumped me. “Mommy?” he said. I looked down to him. “Yes sweetheart?” I replied. “What happened to my daddy?” he asked softly. I stopped walking. He had never asked about his father before and I knew he would ask eventually but I didn’t think it would be now. I sighed softly and knelt in front of him. “Sweetie, why do you want to know?” I asked softly. He shrugged. “Well, Jimmy has a daddy; Bobby has a daddy. I’m the only one without a daddy.” He replied. I nodded. “How about this, let’s go to the park and then before you go to bed tonight, I’ll tell you about your daddy.” I said to him. He smiled and jumped up and down. “Let’s go!!!!” he shouted, making me laugh. We walked the rest of the way to the park and I sat on a bench as I watched Alex climb on the jungle gym.

As I watched my son, I began to think about his father. Alex was an exact replica of the man who I had once and still loved. He had the curly brown hair, the same chocolate brown eyes, and the same smile. Alex even had the same personality; sweet, wise for his age, quiet. Who is his father, you ask. Well, please don’t kill me when I tell you this, but Alex’s father is none other than Nicholas Jerry Jonas. Yes, I am the ex-girlfriend of the famed Rockstar. Yes, the now 22 year old man that still isn’t married and wears a purity ring lost his virginity to me when we were 18. We both wore purity rings at the time. Yes, we both broke our promises to God and to ourselves. But it really wasn’t our fault…maybe I should explain…

4 years ago (Nick & Cassie are 18)

We were at a party that one of our mutual friends was throwing at the apartment under mine and Nick had gone to get some punch for both of us while we watched everyone else dance. I laughed as I watched the drunken girls from my college throw themselves at the football team while dancing and soon felt a strong, familiar arm wrap around my waist as he handed me my drink. “For you my lady.” His velvet voice whispered in my ear, kissing my cheek. I took the cup from him and giggled. “Why thank you kind sir.” I replied, taking a sip of the punch. It tasted a bit funny, and my throat burned a little as I drank it. “Nick, does the punch taste a bit funny to you?” I asked him after swallowing my first sip. He swallowed whatever he had drank and shook his head. “No, why do you ask?” he replied. I shook my head. “No reason, come on; let’s dance.” I said, taking his hand and leading him onto the dance floor.

Three or four drinks later, Nick and I were incoherent to those around us. We were now dancing again, practically having sex with our clothes on as I grinded against him. He kissed my neck as we danced, hitting my soft spot making me moan. I felt him smirk against my neck as his ‘friend’ hardened against my leg. “How about we take this to your place?” he whispered in my ear. I smiled and followed him outside and one floor up to my apartment. I clumsily unlocked the door, a little too drunk to realize what Nick and I were about to embark on, as Nick placed hot kisses all over my neck. Once we were inside, I shut the door and Nick immediately turned me in his arms, passionately kissing my lips as my hands went through his thick curls. His breath reeked of alcohol but I didn’t care. One thing led to another and soon we were fast asleep in bed, naked underneath my sheets. The next morning we woke up and I knew what had happened the night before because I had a splitting headache and I realized that Nick and I were both naked. It was obvious that the punch was spiked. When Nick woke up, we talked about it; not regretting it but not even thinking about the consequences, for example, an unplanned pregnancy…

Present

And that’s what happened. Nick and I continued dating, not regretting that night, only regretting that we didn’t remember what went on. Six weeks later though, I started getting sick; I was throwing up every morning, having weird cravings, and mood swings. I then remembered the night that Nick and I broke our promises and went to have a pregnancy test. When the results came back as positive, I decided that it would be best for Nick if I left. If his fans found out that he had broken his promise, his career would spiral downwards and his fans would be so disappointed. So without a word, I packed up and left Texas for Los Angeles, where I currently live with Alex in Toluca Lake. I left a note telling him not to come after me; not to call and not to look for me. That it was best for both of us that I never be found. I cried every night after that. The only people who knew where I was were Nick’s brother, Joe and his girlfriend, Ashley who has now been his wife for 2 years. I didn’t go to the wedding because that would’ve meant seeing Nick. Oh and Joe and Ashley are the only ones outside of my family who know about Alex and who his father is. You would think that after four years, I would’ve moved on from Nick. But, being that Alex is his I just can’t. I still loved the curly haired boy who I’ve known since I was 9 and had dated since I was 14.

About an hour later, I noticed that Alex was getting tired. “Alex, let’s go honey.” I said as I stood from the bench. He looked up and walked over to me, lifting his arms so I could pick him up. I smiled and lifted him into my arms as I walked us back to our home. As I was unlocking the door, him still in my arms, I noticed someone moving in next door. I smiled and decided that once Alex was asleep, I’d go over and welcome them to the neighborhood. But right now, I needed to start getting Alex ready for the night.

2 hours later

I had just put Alex to bed and decided I would go next door and greet our new neighbor. I fixed my hair, which was a little askew after doing everything around the house, before stepping out the door, taking my key and locking it. I knew Alex wouldn’t wake up so I was not worried about him. I quickly walked next door and rang the doorbell with a smile. I heard footsteps and my heart stopped when I saw who had opened the door. “Hi, may I help you?” he asked, his voice deeper and more like velvet than I had remembered. “Hi, I noticed you moving in earlier and thought I’d welcome you to the neighborhood; I’m your new neighbor Cassie.” I managed to say after a few seconds of silence. He had gotten taller and his curly hair was as short as it was the last time I had seen him. And those eyes, his eyes never changed; they always made me fall in love with him all over again, it was no different now. He smiled at me and stuck his hand out; “I’m Nick, Nick Jonas.” He replied, shaking my hand. I felt the familiar sparks run through my body. “Oh I know who you are; I’m a fan. Your music is great.” I said calmly after releasing his hand. He smiled. “Thank you.” He replied. I smiled and remembered Alex. “I’m sorry but I have to go. Maybe I’ll see you soon.” I said to him. He smiled. “Sure, I’d like that. Goodnight Cassie.” He said. “Goodnight Nick.” I replied as he closed the door and I walked back home.

The minute I got into the house, I called Ashley and Joe. After three rings, Ashley picked up the phone. “Hey Cassie.” I heard Ashley say into the phone. “Hey I have a question.” I said to her as calmly as I could. “Okay shoot.” She said. “When were you going to tell me that Nick was moving to LA?” I asked as calm as I could. She sighed. “Joe!” she called over the phone. “Yeah babe?” I heard him ask. “She saw him.” She replied. “Oh no.” I heard him say. “Guys! What is he doing here?!” I whisper-shouted so I wouldn’t wake Alex. I heard them sigh. “Cassie, he’s looking for you. He has been looking for you for four years. He kinda sorta found out about the reason that you left.” Joe replied. My heart stopped. He knew about Alex? “JOE! How did he find out?” I asked slowly. He sighed. “Your sister, Becca came by the house with Garbo while Nick was over last week and we thought he was in the bathroom, so we were talking about you and she pulled out a picture of Alex. Nick came out and overheard our conversation, saw the picture and you can guess what happened next.” He replied. I sat down on the couch in my living room and ran my fingers through my hair. “So he knows that Alex is his son?” I asked quietly. “Yes. He figured it out the minute he saw the picture. I’m so sorry Cass, we know you didn’t want him to find out, but he was going to find out eventually.” Ashley said. I sighed. “I guess you’re right...” I said, just as the doorbell rang. I stood. “Ash, Joe; I’ll call you guys later, there’s someone at the door.” I added. “Okay, we’re gonna be at Nick’s tomorrow. So maybe we’ll see you.” Ashley replied just as the doorbell rang again. “Okay. See you then, love you guys.” I said before hanging up the phone. I put it down the phone and went to the door to find Nick standing there.

“Nick what are you doing here?” I asked the curly haired, chocolate eyed man standing in front of me. He smiled. “I’m having a get together tomorrow and I was wondering if you’d like to come.” He said. I smiled, unsure of how to answer because of Alex. I smiled. “Sure, I’d love too; what time?” I asked, accepting his offer. I had to accept, he would’ve found out about Alex sooner or later. He smiled at me again. “Around 3-330.” He answered. “Okay, do you need me to bring anything?” I asked. “Just yourself, and I can see that you have a child, so he can come too. My brother is bringing his children so he’ll have someone to play with.” He replied. “How did you know-“I began to ask when he pointed behind me. I turned and saw Alex standing there with a blanket. “Nick, come in while I handle this okay?” I said to him as I walked over to Alex. Nick did as he was told and shut the door. “Baby, what are you doing up?” I asked my son as I pushed his curly hair out of his face. “I had a bad dream.” He whispered sweetly.

I lifted him into my arms and brought him to the kitchen, where Nick was standing against the counter. “Mommy, who’s that?” Alex asked me, pointing to Nick, as I placed him in a chair while I got out the milk. “That’s Nick, sweetheart; he’s our new neighbor.” I replied, putting some milk in a glass and putting it in the microwave. Alex stood up and walked over to Nick. “Hi, I’m Alex.” He said cutely. Nick chuckled and bent down to his height. “Hi buddy. It’s nice to meet you.” Nick replied. Alex smiled and began talking to Nick while I heated up the milk. When I turned around, I saw that Nick had lifted Alex up and was singing to him, putting him back to sleep. I smiled and went over to take Alex out of his arms, but he stopped me. “It’s okay; just lead me up to his room.” He whispered. I nodded. Could he really know who Alex and I are? He’s only seeing him for the first time in person, but could it be possible? I asked myself these questions as I lead him into Alex’s room upstairs. I opened the door to reveal a little boy’s room, complete with race car bed (which Joe and Ashley bought for his birthday). Nick brought him over to the bed as I pulled back the covers and placed Alex in it. I tucked him into the covers before kissing his forehead. I turned towards the door and looked over my shoulder to see Nick kneeling, ruffling Alex’s hair, so much like his own, before kissing his son on the forehead and following me back to the kitchen.

“Would you like some coffee?” I asked, as I tried to avoid anything that might hint who I was. I heard Nick sigh behind me as he sat at the breakfast bar. I turned and looked at him confused. “How long are you going to try and pretend like I don’t know who you really are Cassie?” he asked, hurt evident in his voice. I felt my heart break at how much pain it sounded like he was in. I turned. “How did you know it was me?” I asked, keeping my back to him. “I knew the minute I saw you at my door. Did you honestly think I could EVER forget you? Cassie, why did you keep him a secret from me? My son?” he begged. I felt the tears prick my eyes, but I couldn’t let him see me so weak. He sighed. “I think I’ll just go.” He said, before leaving without another word to me. You really screwed up this time Cassie. I thought to myself.

The Next Day

I paced around the kitchen, wondering if I should still make my way over to Nick’s home. It was now 3:15 and I wasn’t sure if his offer still stood. As I was pacing, Alex came into the room. “Mommy, why are you pacing like that?” he asked, with his head cocked to the side. I sighed and finally made my decision. “Sweetie, go get your shoes on okay? We’re going somewhere.” I said sweetly to him. He smiled and ran to get his shoes on. I ran my fingers through my hair, hoping I could talk to Nick about this whole thing. Soon, Alex came back into the room with a big smile on his face. “I’m ready mommy.” He said sweetly. I smiled and took his hand, leading him out the door and next door to Nick’s house. I heard noise from inside and knocked. I took a deep breath as I heard footsteps approaching.

The door opened and I heard a gasp. “Cassie?” I looked up and saw Ashley standing there. I smiled. “Hey Ash.” I said, hugging her. She hugged back. “What are you doing here?” she asked. I sighed. “Long story short, Nick invited me. But we kinda argued I guess.” I replied. She frowned. “He knows huh?” she asked. I nodded, and then she turned to Alex. “Hey buddy.” She said, opening her arms for a hug. “Aunt Ashley!!!” he shouted, jumping into her arms. I smiled. “Let’s go inside; Joe and I are here, so are Kevin, Danielle and their two kids, Thomas, who’s 4 and Emma, who’s two. Oh and did I mention that I’m pregnant?” she said to me as we made our way to Nick’s living room. “No way! Congrats! How far along are you?” I asked. She smiled. “Two months; but I haven’t told Joe yet.” She replied. I smiled and nodded as we finally came to the living room where I saw my ex boyfriend sitting with his two older brothers, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew. Kevin was the first to look up as we entered the room. “Cassie?!” he said in disbelief. I gave a small smile and nodded. “Hi Kevin, Danielle.” I said as they came over and hugged me. “You’ve been here all this time?” Danielle asked. I heard Nick sigh and walk out of the room. “Yeah. Uhm can you guys excuse me? I need to talk to Nick. Ashley, can you keep an eye on Alex please?” I asked. “Sure thing. You go do what you have to do.” She replied. I nodded and went the way Nick did.

I found him in the backyard, sitting with his feet in the pool as he looked down. I sighed to myself and quietly walked towards him, slipping my shoes off as I sat beside him. I put my feet in the water and slowly kicked. “Why didn’t you tell me?” he said slowly after a long, comfortable silence. It was strange how even with 4 years apart; we were completely comfortable around each other. I sighed. “You should know why Nick.” I replied. He finally looked at me and I saw the confusion. “Well Cassie, I don’t; would you like to enlighten me?” he said, the hurt showing in his voice again. I sighed once again. “I left without telling you anything Nick because you were you.” I replied before standing and keeping my back turned to him feeling the tears fill my eyes. I heard him stand and come behind me, putting his hand on my shoulder. “I don’t understand Cas.” He whispered softly and I could hear the concern in his voice and I broke. I turned to face him, the tears leaving my eyes. “I left without telling you because you were Nick Jonas; the boy all the girls were after, the one who wore the purity ring. If your fans would have found out that you broke your promise and on top of that got me pregnant, your career would have been done. It would’ve been my entire fault. And I knew if I told you I was pregnant, you would’ve thrown your whole life away and I didn’t want that for you.” I told him as the tears ran down my face. I looked down at my feet, only to feel him lift my chin up again.

“Cassandra Rachelle Monroe, I spent these past four years thinking that you left because you didn’t love me anymore. For the past four years I have searched everywhere for you. If I could go back to the day before you left, I would and I’d get down on one knee. Cassie, I loved you then and I love you now. I love Alex, though I haven’t even known him for his whole life. Cassie, you mean so much more to me than any of the fame. I love my fans, but if they would’ve hated me for making a mistake, which we all make, than they aren’t my true fans. I would never ever want to change what happened that night at the party. If I could change anything though, it would be for waiting this long to come here and find you. I cannot believe I missed 4 years that could’ve been the best of my life. I love you Cassie, and I love our son too. So,” he paused getting down on one knee. I gasped and felt the tears fall faster. “I’ve waited four years to do this, knowing that the day I finally found you would be the perfect moment. So, Cassie will you please do me the honor of marrying me?” he asked, pulling out a beautiful, simple diamond ring from his pocket. I was so shocked I couldn’t form words, so I nodded as he slipped the ring on my finger before standing again. He was a bit taller than me and was looking down at me, smiling. “I love you Nick, so much and I’m so sorry.” I whispered. He smiled and wiped my tears with his thumb. “It’s okay baby girl, I love you too, more than my life.” He replied before pulling me into that long awaited kiss. The minutes his lips touched mine the fiery passion I hadn’t felt in so long ignited once again. I smiled against his soft, pink lips and pulled him closer; afraid he’d disappear if I pulled away.

After 5 minutes we heard cheering come from the deck and we pulled away to see Kevin, Danielle, Thomas, Emma, Joe (who was holding Alex), and Ashley smiling and clapping. I smiled as Alex came running over to me. He wrapped his tiny arms around my knees and hugged me. “Hey buddy, you wanna meet your daddy?” I asked him sweetly. He looked up at me and nodded furiously, making me smile. I turned to Nick and took his hand as we knelt down to Alex’s height. I took Alex’s hand and put it on top of mine and Nick’s. “Alex, Nick is your daddy.” I said to him. He smiled wide and looked at Nick. “Really?!” he asked excitedly. “Yes baby, and there’s something else too.” I replied. “What is it mommy?” he asked cutely. I laughed. “Mommy and Daddy are getting married.” Nick and I said together. Then Alex jumped in his arms and I smiled as my son wrapped his arms around his father’s neck and as Nick buried his face in his son’s neck. It brought tears to my eyes and now we were a family.

11 Years Later

It’s been 11 years since Nick found me and Alex, and things could not be any better. Danielle and Kevin are 39 and 38, respectively and have been married for 16 years. They are the parents of 4 children; Thomas Jared (15), Emma Faith (13), Matthew Steven (9), and Stephanie Dawn (4). As for Joe and Ashley, they are 36 and 35, and have been happily married for 13 years. They have 5 children of their own; Landon Michael & Savannah Jade (11), Braeden Patrick (8), and Jacob Philip & Brigid Rose, with another on the way in 6 months. I bet you’re wondering about Nick and I. Well, we are both 33 and we have been happily married for 10 years. Alex is now 15 years old and is not an only child any more. He is now joined by 2 younger sisters, Elizabeth Rose (7) and Veronica Joy (3), and most recently a baby brother named Zachary John. I am so glad Nick moved next door that day because now, my oldest son has a father and I have the man of my dreams. Life is good.
