It Wasn't Meant To Turn Out Like This

Third Time's the Charm

Mayza sat with her arms and legs crossed, the foot planted firmly on the ground tapping impatiently against the carpet. Brian sat beside her, his hand resting on her knee as he stared blankly across the waiting room of Dr. Freemont, obstetrician. There was only one other couple in the waiting room; the woman appeared to be much farther along than Mayza. Her baby bump was much more pronounced. The woman smiled as the man leaned over her, rubbing his hand over her stomach and cooing to the baby inside.

Dr. Freemont would be the third obstetrician the two of them visited in an attempt to find a doctor both willing to allow a fairy inside his office and also knowledgeable about fairy pregnancy. The previous two obstetricians had, upon learning that Mayza and Brian were not only engaged, but expecting a baby, promptly asked them to take their riffraff out of the office. Mayza was running out of patience fast.

“Mayza and Brian Haner, the doctor will see you now,” the receptionist, a petite blonde who looked every part of her profession, called across the waiting room. Mayza and Brian stood up and walked towards the receptionist as she stepped out from her little room. She led the way down the hall and stopped at a closed door. She knocked three times on the door before opening it and ushering them inside with a smile. She closed the door behind them.

Dr. Freemont smiled at the two of them and motioned for them to sit in the two empty chairs in front of his desk. Mayza took that as a good sign; the other two obstetricians had been very unprofessional, frowning and barely bothering to offer the two of them a seat. Brian and Mayza sat down in the indicated seats.

“So, what can I do for you today?” Dr. Freemont asked kindly.

“I’m a fairy. He’s a human. We’re engaged and I’m pregnant with his child. If you have a problem with that, then you’re a douche bag and I’d rather pay a chimpanzee to do a C-Section on me than pay you to take care of me and my baby,” Mayza answered. She decided to just lay it all out on the table and let him make his own assessments. If he refused them as well, then Mayza didn’t want him taking care of her and the baby anyway.

For several moments, all Dr. Freemont did in response was blink. Then, he said, “I’m guessing you’ve been turned down a lot just because you have an inter-species relationship.”

“You’re the third obstetrician we’ve visited in as many days. All of them turned us down just because I’m a fairy,” Mayza answered. She relaxed slightly. Dr. Freemont didn’t seem as though he were about to kick them out of his office.

Dr. Freemont nodded, resting his elbows on his desk. “I have no discrimination against fairies, but I don’t think I’ll be very much help. I know next to nothing about fairy pregnancies.”

Mayza sighed. It was nice to finally meet an obstetrician who didn’t discriminate against fairies, but it didn’t matter anyway if he didn’t know anything about fairy pregnancy.

“Do you know anyone who does know something about fairy pregnancy?” Brian asked. “Someone who would help us?”

Dr. Freemont pulled a Post-It note from a stack on his desk and scribbled a name and number on it before handing it to Brian. Mayza looked over; Dr. Freemont had written the name Dr. Marie Wright on the paper; underneath was a phone number.

“Dr. Wright is an expert on fairies in general,” Dr. Freemont explained, leaning back in his seat again. “They fascinate her. She has focused on the process of fairy pregnancy, however, and I know she’d probably be more than happy to help you throughout the pregnancy. She is especially interested in what would happen if a fairy got pregnant with a human’s baby, or vice versa.”

“Thank you for your time, Dr. Freemont,” Mayza said as she and Brian stood up from their seats. They both shook hands with Dr. Freemont before exiting his office.

You will all be happy to know that I've taken this story off of hiatus.
I also finished planning it all out. There will be a total of 44 chapters.
Which, if you do your math, means that there are 7 chapters left.
