Acid Rain

I love the rain, but today is special. I've been waiting for it with apprehension through all the snowy months of winter. Today is the first thunderstorm of the year. Streak lightning flashes in the distance. I start counting.

1....2.....3....4... A roll of thunder sounds. The storm is close. I can't help but kick my legs in elation like a 5 year old child even though I'm 16. But I don't care. I'm way too happy to.

Or I would be if not for a memory. A memory always trying to free itself from the back of my mind where I'd attempted, without much success, to banish it. Like a black shadow stretching across my thoughts, making everything darker. A pair of green eyes and an infectious smile that I cant ever quite seem to free myself from.
