I Like the Way You Wear Those Faded Blue Jeans

Brian was sitting stuffing his face with pancakes. Meanwhile in early bird land Steve and I where counting the cameras and changing batteries while Donna was finishing up some research and Andy was helping Tango reload stuff into the van. Once we were done with equipment check and repacking everything Grant and Jay had returned.

“So are we ready to go” Jay asked
“Yep” I said
“Well let’s hit the road” Grant said
“I’ll have to tell you about the location as soon as we’re in the cars” Donna said
“Okay” Jay said clapping his hands together
“Let’s go” Grant said clapping his hands

We all went to the cars and climbed in. Donna was up front with Jay and Grant. Tango, Andy and Brian where next while Steve and I followed behind everyone else. As we drove Donna informed us that we where doing a case that involved a family that where to scared to sleep in there own home. The family was being pestered by the spirit. Things were being moved, things had been thrown at the eldest daughter. The son was being pulled out of bed and dragged down the hall so he was sent to live with the grandparents. The parents bed has been shaking and the noise where the craziest things the family has ever heard.

“So when can we be there” Jay asked
“This is it right here” Donna said
“So let’s get going” Grant said

Grant, Jay and Brian went off to talk to the family and see where all these things where going on while the rest of us dragged the equipment out. Jason, Grant and Brian came back and we started to set up our equipment. We set up in record time and decided we would get in pairs. We decided to swap things up I went with Grant while Steve went with Jason. Andy and Brian went in a pair while Donna took first shift in command central. In pairs we went for a walk of the house and just got a feeling for the place. When the last group came out we took our cameras and set off. Grant and I headed off for the pool. Grant wanted to debunk the sightings of an apparition near the pool.

“Okay so the mother has seen the apparition of a man in a top hat walking over the pool” Grant said
“And your thinking it could be the pool light reflecting the shapes in the water on to the tarpaulin” I said
“Exactly” Grant said
“And how are we going to debunk that” I asked
“Well I want you to disturb the water while I look at it for behind the glass door where she was standing” Grant said
“Okay” I said

I started walking around the pool unsure of what to use to disturb the water. I looked around the yard and found a large stick. I walked over to the edge of the pool while staying out of sight and dragging the stick along the water. Grant keep saying no while I keep moving to different spots and moving the stick in different ways. I pulled the stick out of the water and started to walk around the other side of the pool.

“What ever you just did looked like a man in a top hat” Grant said
“I just walked past the left corner pole” I said
“Do that again” Grant said

I went back and walked again.

“I didn’t see it that time” Grant said
“Hang on give me a second” I said

I walked over past the poll and back again. Walking past the poll I turned my light on and off and I dragged the stick in the water. Nothing I done could recreate what Grant seen.

“Grant I don’t think we can recreate it” I said
“Okay come in we’ll head to the sons room” Grant said
“Copy that” I said

I walked back to the right side of the pool to pick up the voice recorder and Grant opened the door. I bent over to pick up the voice recorder when I was shoved. The last thing I remember was a sharp pain in my head then nothing.

“Oh my gosh Zora” I yelled “Jason there’s been an accident get out by the pool straight away” I yelled into the walkie talkie
“On our way” Jason said

I ran to the side of the pool, dropped the equipment and dived into the pool. I few seconds later I was holding Zora up trying to keep her head out of the water. Steve and Jason running out the back door, as soon as Steve saw Zora he came over and helped me get her out of the pool.

“Jason get an ambulance” Steve yelled
“What happened” Jason asked
“She was walking back inside and I think she was pushed, she ran her head into the poll and fell into the pool” I said
“Hi can I get an ambulance” Jason said into his phone

As Jason talk to 911 Steve and I worked to keep Zora awake. Her breathing was shallow and her heart faintly beats. Steve was trying to rid her of her wet jacket and shoes and socks. Jason brought some blanks put and covered her while I lifted her head and Steve worked on keeping her breathing. Soon the ambulance arrived and took Zora away. Steve went with Zora while Jason and I followed behind. We told the others to finish up the investigation. When we arrived at the hospital Zora was being rushed into emergence where she was taken to a small room where they worked on looking at her injuries. While they had Zora Jason, Steve and I waited for news.

“Hi are you with Zora” a lady asked
“Yes I’m her uncle, this is her boyfriend and this is her friend” Jason said
“Would one of you like to go and get some pyjamas for her” the lady asked
“I’ll go” Jason said
“Okay someone will be around to update you in a little while” the lady smiled before walking away

After about and hour Steve had cried him self to sleep and Jason had dropped off Zora’s stuff before leaving to help the group. He told me to call him if anything happened.

3 hours

“Grant Wilson and Steve Gonslaves” a nurse called
“Yes that’s us” I said
“Zora’s out if you want to see her” the nurse said
“Would you take us to her” Steve asked waking up
“Of course follow me” she smiled

The nurse took us through a maze of hallways before we final stopped at a room number 305.

“I must warn you that what you see may come as a shock to you” the nurse said
“Why?” Steve asked
“You’ll see” she said opening the door

In the room was one lone bed with one small fragile looking girl in it. Tubes ran from her mouth and nose. She lay still the rise and fall of her chest the only movement she made.

“Oh Zora what’s happened to you” Steve cried walking over to her
“What happened nurse” I asked
“A doctor will be in shortly to talk to you” the nurse said walking out

I wondered over to the bed side of the bed placing a hand on Zora’s leg. Steve was seated on the side head in his arms in the side of the bed crying. I walked over and placed a hand on his shoulder.

“She’ll be okay I promise” I said
“How do you know” Steve said
“Because she’s a battler” I smiled
“Grant and Steve” a voice came
“Yes that’s us” I said turning around
“Hi I’m doctor Writhe I’ll be looking after Zora” the lady smiled
“Doctor what happened to her” I asked
“She had quite a bad gash on her head and when we were stitching it she went into shock” the doctor said
“So why is she like this” Steve asked
“If we didn’t place her in a coma she would have died” the doctor said
“So when will she wake up” I asked
“She may not” the doctor said “We’ll have to wait and see”
“Damn right we’ll wait she is going to wake up” Steve said
“Doctor you should leave” I said
“Okay I’ll go” the doctor said leaving the room

I took one look at Steve before leaving the room and walking back out of the hospital. I pulled out my phone and dialled Jay’s number.

“Hello” Jay said
“Hi Jay” I said
“Hay how is she” Jay asked
“She’s in a coma” I said rubbing my head
“What?” Jay Said
“She went into shock they were forced to put her in a coma to keep her alive” I said
“Hows Steve taking it” Jay asked
“I don’t think we’re going to keep him out of the hospital” I said
“Just watch him I’ll be down to relieve you in the morning” Jay said
“Okay bye” I said
“Bye” Jay said

I walked back into the hospital and made my way back to Zora’s room where Steve had fallen asleep again. I sat in a chair in the corner and looked out the window. I must have fallen asleep because next thing I knew I was being woken by Jay.

“G wake up” Jay said
“What Jay” I yawned
“You can go now” Jay said
“Okay” I said getting up and leaving.

3 days later

Zora has been in a coma for almost 3 days and even though she’s in a coma I’m going to keep my promise. I promised her that I would take a paternity test to see if I was her father. I walk now down the hall with a nurse ready for the test. We sit down and the nurse cleans a spot on my arm before sticking the needle in and taking some blood. She then walks over to a machine and puts the tube of blood inside. She started the machine and walks off. Returning a few minutes later she stops the machine and puts another tube of blood in it. She turns the machine on again and lets in spin. A few minutes later it spits out a sheet of paper. The nurse takes the paper and smiles before looking at me.

“Zora’s your daughter” she says
“How’s that possible” I whispered
“Well the test doesn’t lie” the nurse said

I looked at the nurse as realisation struck. I smiled and ran off down the hall to Zora’s room. As I went to go in Steve comes bolting out.

“Slow down there” I said
“Zora’s awake” Steve yelled before running off to get a doctor

I ran into Zora’s room and looked at her. She was sitting up chocking on the tubes. After a few seconds a doctor ran in and removed the tube from her neck allowing her to breath. The doctors worked at getting rid of the tube and stuff. When they we’re gone a grabbed Zora in a big hug.

“Excuse me but why are you hugging me” Zora asked
“Because silly I’m ahoy to see you” I said
“I don’t know you” she said
“What don’t be silly it’s me Grant” I smiled
“I don’t know you” she said
“What” I said
“I don’t know you” she said again

I walked away and went to find the doctor. I went to the nurses desk and asked for the doctor who came right away.

“Can I help you” the doctor asked
“She doesn’t remember me” I said
“Well that’s odd let’s go talk to her” the doctor said

We walked back to Zora’s room. Zora was sitting up in bed looking around. Steve looked upset.

“Steve what’s wrong” I asked
“She doesn’t remember me” he said
“She doesn’t remember me either” I said
“Hi Zora I’m doctor Writhe” the doctor said
“Hi doctor is that my name” Zora asked
“Yes your name is Zora Hawes” the doctor said “What do you remember”
“I can’t remember anything” she said
“That’s okay will get your memory back” the doctor said
“When can she go home” I asked
“When you sign her out but someone will have to watch her for a few days” the doctor said
“I’ll do that” Steve said
