From the Sea

Cygnus, the swan constellation, has no particular identity for the Greeks… Some believe the swan in the summer night sky is Cycnus, son of Poseidon. At birth Cycnus was lain out on the sea shore to die, but a swan was sympathetic for the small child so it flew down from the sky and cared for the boy.

No longer did the sea hiss curses or the beach falsely lull––the boy had obtained sword and shield.
