Touched by Angels, Though I Fall out of Grace

Trouble With The Angels?

Frank’s POV

I was sitting out back with Gerard having a smoke, Mikey doesn’t like smoking but I was already addicted before I met him and anyway he didn’t mind that I did just not around him. Gerard and I were talking about his new neighbours when a soccer ball came flying over the fence and then not even a second later the doorbell rang. Gerard and I both looked at each other; it couldn’t be his neighbours come to collect their ball already that just wasn’t possible. Gerard got up and answered the door and to both of our surprise it was his neighbour, Gwendolyn was standing in his doorway looking stunning, she had a sweet innocent smile on her face as she talked to Gerard. He let her in and then when he turned around he wasn’t wearing the expression I thought he would be, his expression was no different than when he was sitting here with me having a smoke, it was like he hadn’t even noticed that there was an angel in his house. I stared at him in disbelief and then I looked up at Gwendolyn as she passed me she seemed to notice Gerard’s expression because she didn’t look so happy. I don’t think she liked the fact that she hadn’t stunned someone with her beauty; if I was her I would be too she was gorgeous.

Gwendolyn didn’t pass by me again I think she jumped the fence, no she probably just went around the house instead. I went back into the house and watched as Gerard sat at the kitchen table and stared into space, he looked so happy and content I hadn’t seen him like this before. I walked past him without him noticing and then up to Mikey’s room, he wasn’t in there
“Mikey” I called out his name

“I’m in here” he called back from Gerard’s room, what was he doing in Gerard’s room

“Hey what you doing in here?” I asked him as I sat next to him on Gerard’s bed, again for the second time ever Gerard’s curtains were open

“Listening, sh” he quieted me, at first I didn’t hear anything and then after a while I heard someone shout

“What was that?” I asked him bewildered, it sounded more like a growl than anything I couldn’t tell what the person was trying to say

“Neighbours” he tilted his head like he was afraid of pointing in case for some reason they were watching. I became silent again listening for anything else, it was about a minute before anything else came

“Aiden!” I was able to make it out this time, it was very low and again a growl, it was a warning and it was really loud Aiden must be in some problem. A second later I looked into the garden to see Aiden sitting at the other end of the garden, she didn’t look angry or sad or anything really. Her face was completely blank with emotion, she sat there as still as a stone and didn’t move for the whole five minutes we watched her.

“What do you think happened?” Mikey asked me after a long stretch of silence

“I have no idea but it sounded like Aiden was in big trouble” I replied looking at her but she was gone just as fast as she had appeared

“Yeah it did, I wonder who that was before” Mikey wondered, my guess was her father of which neither of us had seen but he must be pretty big to make that kind of sound.

“Come let’s close the curtains and get out of here before Gerard comes back up” Mikey said as we stood and pulled the curtains.
We had lots of homework to do so we went back to Mikey’s room and did it. You know if I wasn’t friends with Mikey I probably wouldn’t ever do my homework, but Mikey was a good student and that rubbed off on me and also the fact that I would have nothing else to do when he was doing his homework. After that we decided to get some fresh air and go down to the park, Gerard didn’t want to come with us he said he had things to do. We spent most of the night down there until it got dark and we had to go back to Mikey’s house, New Jersey isn’t so safe when it gets dark.

When we got back to the house we saw Aiden leaving
“Hey Aiden” I called as we stopped in front of her house

“Hello Frank, Mikey” she greeted us,

“Are you going out?” I asked her, it may have sounded noisy but I wasn’t trying to be

“Yes, the house it a bit crowded for me right now” she explained, tilting her head towards her father’s car that was sitting next to Gwendolyn’s in front of the garage. Both the cars looked pretty new and fast I envied them although I didn’t even have my licence yet.

“Do you think it’s safe to go out at this time of night?” I questioned her; I didn’t want to tell her straight off that it wasn’t a good idea for fear of sounding rude. A smile flickered across her face it looked slightly thoughtful and deceiving at the same time

“I’ll be just fine, but thank you for caring. Goodnight” she bid us farewell as she walked past us and in the direction we had just come. I turned to Mikey

“Don’t worry she seems to know what she’s doing” he assured me; I hope she would be okay and somehow I knew she would be.
