These Little Wonders

Shake and Shout

Nick couldn’t help but wonder why Kayleigh spoke so… flirtatiously with James. He didn’t talk to Maya like that. He knows that kind of talking is only used if they like each other or used to.

Emma had told him not worry about it, that she's known James and Kayleigh for quite a while and that they only speak like that to be silly.

Nick hoped she was right and that Kayleigh didn’t like James. Because after all, Nick did like her. Nick didn’t want to be friends with her. But he couldn’t rush things just because he wants to.

He tossed and turned in his bed. Kayleigh had the power to do that to him. He grabbed his phone and texted the one person who always knows what to do.

Maya, I can’t sleep : (

He turned on his lamp and waited for her to text back. Knowing Maya, she was probably awake, it wasn’t that late.

Nick >:l I’m trying to sleep. But what’s wrong? You now have me worried.

Nick chuckled, Sorry :/ but I can’t sleep. Sing me a lullaby.

Why can’t you sleep? What’s on your mind? I am tired, you should be singing me to sleep -.- you woke me up.

He quickly texted her back. It had been a while since him and Maya had late night talks.

A girl. She’s my roommate. I’m sure Joe already told you. & fine, next time. Promise.

Maya’s reply came just as quick as his did, Ahh, yes, Kayleigh. He did ^_^ she seems nice. He told me you like her too.

Nick rolled his eyes, Joe could never keep a secret. I guess, but Idk what to do.

Well, then Idk what to tell you, Nick. If you like her, tell her. Or just talk to her.

Thanks Maya : ) I will, tomorrow.

:D good. Now go to sleep.

Nick smiled, Sweet Dreams Maya

Goodnight Nick xoxo

Waking up the next day wasn’t hard. The girls liked to be up early and loud. Nick chuckled; he liked the fact that this was only temporary.

He noticed that Elvis wasn’t in his room, knowing Kayleigh’s routine by now, he wasn’t surprised.

Nick followed his usual routine, take a shower, get ready, and go eat breakfast.

“Good morning, ladies,” Nick smiled as he walked into the kitchen to see Kayleigh making breakfast and Emma reading the sports section of the newspaper. They’re definitely best friends, Nick thought to himself.

Receiving hellos and good mornings from both girls, Nick took out a glass to drink orange juice.

“Ugh! I can’t believe how badly our old high school’s lacrosse team is doing.” Emma exclaimed as she put the newspaper down.

“You brought a copy of the newspaper from New York with you?” Nick asked, only to be answer by Kayleigh.

“She’s weird like that.”

Emma playfully glared at Kayleigh, “Ha-ha. You’re only saying that because the volleyball team is winning.”

Kayleigh smirked, “I guess I taught them how to win.”

Nick chuckled; their little arguments were fun to watch.

“Sure, Girls’ Lacrosse is losing because I left.”

“Whatever floats your boat, dear.”

All three of them laughed, “Alright, enough, when’s breakfast?”

Kayleigh looked at Nick, “I feel so used. It’ll be ready soon.”

“Only because you can cook. If not, we’d all be starving to death. So, we’re not using you. We need you.” Emma smiled innocently.

“Bull crap,” Kayleigh laughed.

The three of them ate breakfast and Emma had to go take care of things having to do with her dorm.

Nick decided to at least wash the dishes. Kayleigh smiled and let him be as she read the same newspaper Emma had been reading earlier that morning.

“Even though we have talked about everything, I still don’t know what you’re going to major in college.”

Kayleigh laughed as she continued to look at the paper, “I know, right? I’m going to major in Child Learning and Development, along with Interdisciplinary Studies. What about you?”

“Even though I’m already a musician, I really want to study deeply about being a musician. So, I’m majoring in Art and Performance.”

She laughed even more, “That’s cool, kinda reminds me of the time that Emma took Spanish even though she’s Ecuadorian. She got a ninety-eight on the regents.”

“Haha! I’m not taking it because it’s an easy A. But because I really am interested in that major.”

Kayleigh nodded her head, “Sure, Rockstar.”

Nick pushed her playfully, “Your major, what exactly is it for?”

“Well, I want to be a kindergarten teacher, so I guess I’m going to learn about children and what not."

He stopped whatever he was doing and just looked at her. She was still reading the paper. That’s when Nick noticed that he really liked her. Kayleigh had a heart of gold and he couldn’t help but admire.

“That’s really good,” he smiled and began to put away the dishes.

“Thank you. Now, if you excuse me, I have something to watch on TV.”

Nick, once again, stopped what he was doing and followed her into the living room.

“And what’s that?”

Kayleigh hid her face, “Soap opera.”

He chuckled, “Does that embarrass you?”

She nodded, “Back in New York, I was always known as the girl who played football outside with the boys. Not the girl that sat at home watching soaps. So you better keep your mouth shut, Jonas.”

“Alright, alright. No need to get all hostile,” he laughed and sat down next to her on the couch.

Sure enough, he had no idea what they were saying because it was in Spanish. But he would at least spend time with her.

During each commercial break, Kayleigh would explain to him whatever was going on. She would explain everything with as much drama as it was shown on TV. When the commercials were over, she would shush him and focus on the drama.

Nick ended up falling asleep and when Kayleigh’s soap opera was over, she woke him up.

“Niiiiick! Come on! It wasn’t that boring!”

She shook his body a little too hard and he somehow ended up on the floor.

He soon woke up, “Kayls, really? If you were to just ask me to wake up gently, I would. No need to push me off the couch.”

Kayleigh tried to hold in her laughter, “I’m sorry, but you just wouldn’t wake up. I had no other choice.”

Nick nodded, “Of course, so how did it end?”

“Oh my gosh, he punched him in the face! Ahh, I can’t wait ‘til tomorrow!”

Her excitement made him chuckle, “Me neither. There’s finally gonna be some action.”

Nick took Maya’s advice and decided to turn off the television.

Kayleigh looked at him with a puzzle expression. “Is something wrong?”

“Yeah, I couldn’t sleep all night. I have to ask you something.”

“Oh, go for it. What’s up?”

“Do you have any feelings for James?”

Kayleigh remained silent. Nick figured she did and so he directed his eyes towards the floor.

Soon, she began to laugh and Nick was utterly confused.

“James?! My James?! Why would I like him?! He’s been one of my closest friends. Sometimes, I even trust him more than Emma.”

Nick grinned, “Are you serious?”

“Yes! He’s been like a brother to me ever since I met him. If you over heard the conversation from last night, I’m sorry, but we talk like that all the time. I mean, he’s been there for me for so long. He always made sure no one broke my heart or he’d break their face.

“Trust me, there is nothing going on between James and myself.”

He sighed out of relief, “Thank goodness.”

She giggled, “Were you jealous or something?”

“Yeah, kind of. I mean, I heard the way you talked to him and thought, ‘Great, someone already called dibs.’ And Emma told me you guys were just friends, but I’m a dude. I can’t help it.”

“Aww, well, I’m sorry I kept you up all night. You shouldn’t be afraid to ask about him or any other people I talk to.”

Nick smiled and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “It’s okay and next time, I’ll just talk to you.”

“Good. Now, get up. I want ice cream and I’m pretty sure Sam and Elvis need to go for a walk.”

Omg. I cannot apologize enough to cover for what I’ve done. I not only procrastinated, but never kept what I promised.
This isn’t an “epic” chapter, but I hope it’s enough to keep my subscribers :l
I’m seriously so sorry. But with my trip to NC & thinking about college–my mind wouldn’t focus on writing.
I would sit here & try to write, but nothing would come out.
& it doesn’t help that summer’s pretty much over now.
But this time, I don’t care. I’ve been through so much these past few months. I plan on going through with this story.
So please comment–even if its to yell at me for not updating.
Thank you so much if you’re still reading (:
