I'll Be Your Friend, I'll Help You Carry On

It was 10:30 am on Saturday, August 31, 2013. The sun was bright and shining through the bay windows covering the back of the house, making the ribbons and glint in the light. Normally the house would be dead silent, with the boys down by the lake with Sid and Chantal working on that morning’s breakfast, but this morning was different.

After getting married four years ago in a quick ceremony after the Pittsburgh Penguins had won the Stanley Cup, they still hadn’t had their big reception. The years went by quickly, especially with their two children, and there hadn’t been any time for a wedding celebration.

As well as the house surprise, Sidney also surprised her with a planned date and over 400 positive RSVP cards for August 31; two weeks from the date they moved in. Chantal spent the next week looking for a pretty dress that would be acceptable and simply relaxed and enjoyed her new home. Apparently, everything had already been taken care of.

Taylor, who had gained a knack for makeup, was carefully lining her eyes in black eyeliner over the white, sparkly Mac eye shadow.

“Look up,” Taylor mumbled as she ran the pencil underneath her eye.

“I can’t believe the amount of people that are going to be here today,” Chantal said quietly.

Taylor pulled away for a second and shrugged, putting down the pencil and picking up the mascara, “Of course there’s going to be a lot of people, you do know who my brother is right?”

Chantal giggled, “I forget sometimes. He’s just Sidney to me.”
