Dear Ben

004

Dear Ben,

Today we hung out for the first time in a while.

You called, said that "I'm home, and I have practice. You should come..."

Then you picked me up and we drove to the fields behind the community college in the next town over. While you played soccer with the other kids on the team, even though you weren't on the team, you just liked to run, I sat in the grass and watched. Every once in a while you would look over and I would just smile awkwardly, and pull at the neck of my t-shirt or the huge rip in the knee of my jeans.

After practice, even though the sun was setting and we had about 10 minutes until it got dark, you stayed and ran. I couldn't help but stare. It's you without a shirt, your skinny stomach, your blond hair, your straight face.

I wish I loved to run as much as you do.

I wish you never had to take me home.

Love,
Olivia

P.S. These are my favorite days.
