Break All Your Rules

I woke up on the sunny Sunday morning to a note on my face from my parents. They were off to an important party, and they would be gone all day. I smiled sleepily and sighed. A day home alone was rare, and I would take full advantage of it.

The house phone, sitting on my nightstand, rang just minutes later, and I looked over at it with a glare. I wanted to sleep in, but apparently, someone else had other plans.

I picked up and put on a smile. “Hello?” I asked cheerily.

“Good morning,” Mason sang on the other end. “I’m glad I caught you instead of your parents. I had this whole telemarketer speech planned out.”

“My parents are gone for the day, and I am so happy,” I told him. I sat up in my bed, stretching slightly. I yawned a bit before saying, “any plans today?”

“Well,” he said, and I could hear him smiling. “I was just gonna go over Kevin’s house, y’know...”

“Get high?”

“Yeah. But if you’re free all day, then I’d rather hang out with you. If you wanna, that is.”

“I’m all for it. Just lemme wake up, shower, get dressed…” I smiled down at my comforter. “Come over in a half an hour?”

“Sure thing.” I could hear him smile. “See you then, Fiona.”

“Bye.”
