Burned Bones

Colors Replace the Fire

It was the place. Most defiantly. Bill let me stay in his house. It had a library. Bill even let me draw on one of the walls. He said it looked pretty cool.

Wonderland is everywhere. In Paris, in Japan, in the books I read, in Bill’s house. In Bill…

A therapist tried to help me with my hallucinations, but after my revolutionary discovery, I could no longer see the fire. Even without Bill by my side. Everything is now in vibrant colors, like the effect in movies where the word is a tint darker, but the bright colors make up for it.

“A drunken salesman, your hearing damage, your mind is restless, they say you’re getting better, they say you’re getting better…”

My eyes flew open at the sound of my ringtone. My heart beating rapidly. My vision blurred to the extent that I could not tell anything apart.

My phone’s screen read “Wake up”. I had gotten a text message. My phone said I had sent it. Alice.

I tried to remember the dream I had last night, but nothing was coming to mind.

“Alice!” my mom called through the locked door, “Bill is here! Remember, you two were going to the tea party?”
