And So It Starts
Ann was lying comfortably in her favorite chair in the library reading a series that she found herself addicted to. “Miss Ann, there is someone here to see you.” A servant said from the doorway of the library.
“Do I know them?” Ann asked as she put her bookmarker in the book, shut it and placed it on the table next to her chair.
“He said he danced with you last night.” The servant said
“Ok I’m coming.” Ann said and got up. And so it starts Ann thought with a sigh. She followed the servant out of the library, down the hall, and into the salon. Once she was there the servant bowed then walked away to finish what she was previously working on. As the guy turned around to face Ann, Jared walked out of the kitchen and saw Ann. He walked towards her and then put a protective hand on Ann’s shoulder as both he and Ann were facing a very nervous Jett.
“Is this guy giving you trouble?” Jared asked
“Actually, Jared, I haven’t even said hello to him yet.” Ann said as she got Jared’s hand off of her shoulder. “And I can take it from here. Goodbye Jared.” Ann said as she just stared at Jared until he felt, which he was not happy about leaving.
“Umm I was hoping we could talk outside. The moonlight is very bright on this warm clear night.” Jett said
“That sounds great.” Ann said with a straight face and then followed Jett out the front door. She shut the front door behind her then followed Jett as he headed toward the garden that Ann brought them to the previous night. He led them to one of the benches that were placed around the koi fish pond in the middle of the garden. He gestured for Ann to sit and took a seat after her. “So you wanted to talk?” Ann asked
“Yes.” Jett said and took a deep breathe then let it out.
“I would like to talk to you about that kiss.” Jett said. “Why’d you kiss me?”
“Well despite you being the coldest person to me, you were the most interesting person. And I don’t know, I guess it just happened. And then when I didn’t get a response from you I took it as I did something wrong and so I left. Did you feel anything? Or do you not want it to happen again?” Ann asked
“I would actually like to do it more, to be honest. It was the most sincere kiss I have ever had. And as lame and cliché as it sounds I didn’t respond because I didn’t know how. I was stunned that you had kissed me and how great it felt. And even though I was cold to you, you didn’t give up. And I would like to apologize for my actions towards you last night. It was uncalled for and inappropriate for me to treat you that way without knowing you. I hope you will accept my apology.” Jett said as he looked at Ann in the face but once he said what he needed to he looked away from her and focused on the koi fish in the pond in front of him.
Ann just looked in the pond as well, following the fish with her eyes. “Well I was really hurt by the way you were treating me. I stayed because I wanted to know what made you want to sit away from everyone. And I wanted to know why you were so cold to me. If you were there by force I would’ve allowed you go home. I didn’t want anyone there who didn’t want to be. And it also saddens me that my brother has caused you pain but I understand because with him all I experience is pain. But I do accept your apology.” Ann said at last. Jett released the breath he didn’t realize he was holding. He slowly reached over and gentle held Ann’s hand in his. She didn’t move or pull away, just kept her hand in his the way the held it. “Ann?” Jett asked
“Jett?” Ann asked
“I would like to go out with you. Would you go out with me?” Jett asked
“Out?” Ann asked
“Yea, like a date.” Jett asked
“A date?” Ann asked
“You do know what a date is, right?” Jett asked
“I’m sorry I don’t. I have heard of them but I have never been on one. You have to remember that I am recently a vampire. Before that I was a servant. We weren’t taught about dates; we were just taught to serve. Some servants push themselves on their masters in hopes of getting something out of it like having the master fall for them and turn them; some do it just for the sex. I just did what was asked of me, though I stupidly fell for my master. And he said he shared the same feelings but his actions contradicted his words. But anyway a date does sound like fun.” Ann said with a smile.
“Would tomorrow be okay?” Jett asked
“Sounds like a date. What do you have in mind?” Ann asked
“I’m not sure yet. I want to make sure that you have the best first date ever. So it’ll be a surprise.” Jett said with a smile.
“Sounds good to me. Hey are you hungry? I’m sure Mom is cooking something in the kitchen.” Ann said and Jett agreed
“So you call Joann ‘Mom’?” Jett asked as they got up and made their way back towards the house.
“It depends. I try to call her Mom when I can but sometimes I call her Joann. And she understands that it will take me a while before I am able to fully call her Mom. It took me a while before I was even able to call her Joann.” Ann said
“Really?” Jett asked
“Yea, when we are taught to be servants they tell us how mean and vicious vampires are. They tell us such horror stories that when they are nice it scares because we don’t know how to act.” Ann said.
“That’s rough.” Jett said softly
“Well that’s how I was taught. It was all I knew until I actually came here.” Ann said
“And you were just a regular servant?” Jett asked
“I guess. I don’t understand what you are asking. I was given to Jared as a gift, I was his personal servant. Turns out Joann gave me to him to be a friendly companion.” Ann said
“And he raped you, wow I never even thought about the life of a servant. I grew up with them there. I had a nanny to help but she just made sure that she was doing everything that my parents asked of her. I never even bothered to ask about their life, they never showed any sign of there being a problem.” Jett said
“We were taught not to show any or we will be punished. It’s rough but for us it’s how we were taught to live.” Ann said as they reached the front door.
Jett just dropped the topic and held the door open for Ann; she looked at him then hesitantly went through the door first. Jett shut the front door behind him and then followed Ann into the kitchen. “Hey Mom” Ann said as she walked into the room.
“Hello sweetie. And who is your friend?” Joan asked even though she knew who he was.
“Mom this is Jett; Jett this is my mom. Is it alright if I go out on a date with Jett tomorrow?” Ann asked
“I don’t see why not. Just make sure that it’s not too late. I want to make sure that he can get home safely afterwards.” Joan said as she shook Jett’s hand.
“I don’t plan on it being too big since she told she’s never been on one before. I don’t want to overwhelm her.” Jett said
“That’s great to hear. Anyway I just got done putting dinner in the oven. Will you be joining us for dinner, Jett?” Joann asked and Jett looked at Ann who nodded her head.
“Yes, that would be great.” Jett said with a smile. He, Joann and Ann all sat around the table snacking on appetizers and talking as they were just trying to get to know each other better.
