Love Song

Chapter 51: I'm here to help you see, you can rely on me

Amy

Wednesday, March 26

When it came time to move the rest of my stuff out of my apartment, I had finally asked for some help besides Josh. Harrison, Sam, and Tia came to help move stuff. Erin had promised to come later on in the day since she had to work. But we ended up getting through all the heavy stuff anyway by the time she showed up.

“Who knew it would take two weeks to get all your stuff from your apartment to Josh’s house,” Erin said. Tia and Sam exchanged confused looks and then turned to me, unsure if she had sounded bitter or not. Erin was the kind of person who was hard to read.

“We’ve been busy,” I mumbled, “I’m finally getting it done today thank god.”

Erin smiled and headed up the steps towards my apartment. Sam stepped up and stood beside me, crossing her arms, “Is Erin mad at you or something?”

“I don’t think so,” I said, “I mean, I guess I could see why. I’m with her ex-boyfriend.”

“Emphasis on ex,” Tia snapped as she put a box into the back of my car, “It’s not like Josh left her for you. She left him. So, his relationships aren’t her problem anymore.”

I nudged Tia in her side when we saw Erin coming back downstairs with Josh. Sam and Tia cleared their throats and finished putting boxes into my car. Josh slid one of my lamps into the back seat and sighed, “Well, I think this is pretty much everything. I just have to get a few more things. Tia, Sam, would you help me?”

Sam and Tia nodded and followed Josh upstairs, leaving Erin and I alone outside my apartment complex. I leaned against the side of my car and looked at anything but Erin. She, however wouldn’t look at anything but me. I finally met her gaze, “Are, are we cool? You’re not mad at me, are you?”

“Not at all,” she said, “I just don’t think you should be with Josh, that’s all.”

I frowned and put my hands on my hips, “And why not? Because you want him back or something?”

“You know me better than that Amy,” Erin grumbled, rolling her eyes, “No. That’s not the problem. The problem is Josh.”

“What’s wrong with Josh?”

“You haven’t noticed? He has a drinking problem, Amy,” Erin said, “That’s why I left him. He would come home all the time drunk off his ass or he’d come home and then get drunk. He’s an alcoholic. I don’t think you need that in your life.”

“But I can’t just leave Josh,” I argued, “If he really is an alcoholic, then he needs me as support.”

“He’s just like every other alcoholic,” Erin said, shaking her head, “He doesn’t think he has a problem. You can’t be his support or help him until he wants to help himself. You can’t support someone who doesn’t want it.”

Erin turned when she heard Josh, Tia, and Sam coming down the stairs, each of them with a box in their arms. Josh followed the two of them to my car and he grunted as he shoved the box into the back seat next to my lamp, “And that’s everything. You ready to go?”

I turned to Erin, who had already started walking away from us. I would have to think about this a little more because the thought was crazy. Maybe because I didn’t love with him yet, I haven’t seen him wasted. Well I haven’t seen him wasted since my party almost a year ago but still. I’ve never seen it with sober eyes. I put my hand on his freshly shaved cheek and pressed a kiss to his lips, “Yeah, I’m ready. Let’s go home.”
