Chapter 12: Back to school
“Princess…time to get up”
Alex woke me up in good time, we had to go to school that day, I growled and closed my eyes again. The next second I felt something icy fall into my face; I screamed and fell out of the bed.
Alex laughed at me, snow falling from his hand.
“You’re gonna get it for that!” I grumbled as I walked past him, I went to the bathroom, took a shower and found one of the outfits Margret had gotten me. It was the one with the dress shirt.
I walked out into the hall, and met Margret on her way down.
“Oh Sonea good morning” she smiled.
“Good morning, and thanks again for the clothes, it’s really nice” I laughed.
“I think Anna is here, she said something about you and not being allowed to go to school without make-up”
I shuddered at the word Make-up, and Margret laughed.
“Hey Sonea!” Anna called from the bottom of the stairs; she had a make-up bag in each hand.
“Hi Anna…is that the make-up?”
“Yeah! Let’s go to the bathroom and I’ll turn you into a princess!” I followed her; she sat me down on a chair, in one of the many down stairs bathrooms. I waited about ten minutes before she would let me leave the room, and walked out into the hall. Anna and I met everyone at the table, Otto, Alex, Margret, Will and Augustus.
“Casper’s on his way, he’s got a day off today” Will smiled at Margret who had also just come.
“Great” I smiled, I felt Alex’s eyes on me, I looked but he quickly looked at his food.
I blushed, maybe it was the make-up? Was it too much?
I looked at my food too, for some reason I couldn’t really look at Alex, well I could but I had to look away sometimes, it was weird.
“Are you excited?” Margret asked; Alex and I nodded a little, not looking other places than down.
“I swear sometimes you two are like clones” she laughed a little. Besides the small talk the breakfast was for once quiet, I didn’t like the change, and hoped that it would be different when this day was finally over.
“Okay are everybody ready?” Margret called, we we’re all lined up on a row in front of the door.
“Now Sonea and Anna, what you need to remember is, you might not see them, but they’re there. There’s probably not so many here, but at the school they won’t even bother to hide, and they will most definitely not understand that you are normal girls, they will grab onto you, and so you have to be quick!” Margret lectured about paparazzo’s. Alex squeezed my hand, it was good, because after that speech I wanted to run up into Alex’s room and hide under the blankets.
“They won’t kill us, will they?” Anna looked terrified.
“No I don’t think so, but this is a big pile of hot news, so naturally we are getting all the attention from Hollywood right now” she looked at us, checking that we were ready to leave. “Okay let’s go!” she opened the door, and walked ahead of us, Will and Margret looked so cool, they had their busi-ness faces on.
Margret model walked, Anna called it the power walk, Will walked with all his head gear on, and he was already talking on the phone. Otto walked just in front of me and Alex, he looked more fright-ening than ever. Anna spotted Casper’s car, and ran over and jumped inside, they were off first.
“Alex!” I whispered.
“Yeah” Alex whispered back, he was still looking straight forward.
“I’m terrified!” I looked at him; he couldn’t help but look down at me and smile. I was so lost in his smile, I didn’t look at the ground, and I nearly slipped on the ice. Alex had an iron grip on me from that millisecond and until we reached the car.
“Geez Margret how do you walk like a model on the ice, and in high heels!” I sighed. “I can’t even walk with these on without falling”
“Hon. That comes with practicing” she patted my hand.
“Here put these on” Will handed me and Alex a pair of sun glasses each, I quickly put mine on.
“See what I said? They fit like a dream!” Margret exclaimed. “Oh Sonea I couldn’t be more proud, you look like a superstar!”
“Thanks Margret” I mumbled. “But I’d rather look like myself, you know, this is not really my life, I guess it’s okay sometimes, but hopefully not all the time”
“I understand you perfectly clear Sonea” Will said smiling. Everyone then looked out the windows nervously, and way too soon we stopped outside the school. The car was already surrounded by in-terviewers and photographers.
“Remember not to say anything!” Margret said before Otto opened the door.
“C’mon Sonea” Alex smiled brightly at me; he looked like a dream with those sun glasses on.
“Yeah” I let him climb out first and he held out his hand for me. I took it and as soon as my feet hit the ground outside I felt people pressing up against me, claustrophobia wasn’t something I usually dealt with, but this time I did. I felt Alex guide me through the thick crowd of Hollywood people. The flashes of camera’s and the interviewers’ voices seemed to be never ending.
“Alex I can’t-” I stopped, my body wouldn’t move, I felt like drowning. “I can’t breathe!” Otto quickly spun around, and looked at Alex, he looked back, we weren’t even halfway through! And the limo was already gone. My legs suddenly gave up, and I felt Alex catch me.
“Otto make a path!” Alex roared. Otto did so; he shoved people out of the way, as Alex stormed behind him with me in his arms. The door was closed and I was sat down on a chair, some of the paparazzo’s had come inside too, and tried to get past Otto. He quickly threw them out though.
Alex sat down in front of me, and took of his sunglasses. “I’m sorry this is my fault” he looked sad.
“Nonsense we both have a part in this! I’m already better!” I smiled.
“S’up princess!” Anna laughed.
“Not much… being attacked by people who wants’ to take my picture… you?” I asked laughing.
“Pretty much the same”
“Okay let’s go out and learn stuff!” I giggled, Anna caught my hand, and we we’re off, and we waved at Alex. He was going to be okay, he had tried this so many times before.
Anna and I walked to our lockers, and found a whole lot of photographers waiting for us, we spun quickly around and ran down the stairs again.
“AAAALLLEEEXXX!!!!!” I screamed, Anna was the first one to reach him, she passed him and practically jumped onto Otto. I ran down to Alex and grabbed his hand, I pulled him with me quick-ly, and they were still behind us. I turned around a corner and found an old elevator, I pressed the first button I could reach, and the doors closed right in front of them.
“Huh that was close” I sighed. Alex laughed and hugged me.
“There’s never a boring moment with you” he took my hand and our fingers folded together.
“Can you manage from here on?” he asked.
“Yeah… my classroom is just down the hall” I smiled.
“Good… I’ll see you in the break, let’s say at this spot”
“Okay have a nice day” I hugged him around the neck, while staying at his house we had broken some barriers, but I knew Alex still wouldn’t allow kissing. I waved goodbye again, and this time I made it all the way to my classroom where I managed to come five minutes too early. I opened the door, and stepped inside. Every one’s eyes were on me, Anna wasn’t here yet, so I was totally alone.
I quickly walked down to the end of the room; the entire class’s eyes followed me.
Suddenly Anna burst in through the door followed by Otto; they quickly located me, and walked over to me.
“Seriously how did you escape?!” Anna was all out of breath. “Otto here had to call for backup!”
“Really? Alex and I escaped with the elevator” I smiled.
“You’re so sneaky!”
“I’ll go down and check on Alex, last time I saw him, the teachers had locked their coffee room, leaving him surrounded outside”
“What?! those bitches!” I was about to run for his aid, when Otto’s extremely large hand stopped me. “No go princess… I promised Alex you wouldn’t leave this classroom”
“Okay… but don’t call me princess” I mumbled to the floor, blushing at the memory of Alex calling me princess.
“But Alex can! Why can’t we?!”
“Because it’s Alex we’re talking about!”
“Oh okay!” Anna sighed tiredly.
Otto was long gone; Anna and I were left with the rest of the eavesdropping and very much staring class. We retreated to the back, no one wanted to talk to us, so we just sat down. The English teacher quickly came into the room; she eyed me evilly and started the lesson. We were to read a lot of texts and talk about them later; I was completely ignored by the teacher, which was totally unfair.
I already hated the school again, and I just wanted it to be over with.
“I hope Alex is doing better than us” I whispered to Anna.
“Yeah this is so not going smoothly!” we both laughed, and were completely ignored by the teacher.
The bell rang and Anna and I jumped up from our desks. We ran towards the door, but as we opened it flashes of light started to blind me. I slammed the door shut, and looked at Anna, she was laughing a little, but mostly she had an overgrown smile plastered on her face. She put on her sun-glasses, and so did I. we opened the door, and Anna went ahead, screaming things like; “Get off the track! She’s going to puke” I slapped her playfully on her head, as she just humiliated me on national television. I think I had had too much sugar that morning, because Anna and I were totally giddy, and possibly hyperactive. The photographers followed us, but as we reached Alex they backed off slowly.
“I had to threaten some of them, that I’d drag them to court if they didn’t leave me alone” Alex ex-plained, he smiled at me and quickly grabbed my hand. “I’ve never experienced anything like this! It’s crazy, there’s photographers on every floor, it doesn’t matter how many Otto and the guys kick out, they keep coming back!” Alex looked around, checking if we were alone.
“I think it’s exciting!” I squealed.
“I think you’re high on sugar” Alex smiled warmly at me.
“Awww” I yawned and hugged him around the middle, I rested my head on his chest. Alex laughed at that.
“And there goes the energy” he teased.
“Can’t we sit down?” Anna suggested. “I think these shoes were seriously wrong for a day like this, I should have worn my running shoes” she laughed and Alex agreed.
“Mom made these shoes especially for me, they look like normal shoes, but inside they are actually running shoes” he looked around again. “She knew how much I had to run, if I was so unfortunate to run into some photographers”
“Hello Alex” Alex turned around to see a small girl; I guessed she was from one of his classes.
“Hey Tammy” Anna grabbed me, and Alex leaned down to speak with her. “What’s the matter? Do you need help?” Alex used the cutest voice to speak with her, the sound of his voice gave me new energy.
“No Alex but thank you” the little girl; Tammy, was so cute, she had a baby-blue dress on.
“Then what is it?”
“Is she your girlfriend?” she pointed at me, I blushed wildly, and Alex laughed both at the question but also at me blushing.
“Sonea? I don’t know, are we official?” Alex asked me, I stared wildly.
“You haven’t asked yet” I giggled.
“Okay Sonea… will you be my girlfriend?”
“Oh it’s so sudden!” I breathed dramatically, Alex laughed, and so did the little girl. “But yes Alex of course I will” I smiled, and Alex hugged me around the middle. The little girl and Anna cheered.
“Now you only need to get married!” Tammy said in the sweetest voice, she fidgeted with a piece of her dress. Alex laughed nervously, and looked at me, I smiled at him. I guess I had always known I wanted to get married and have children; I couldn’t help but imagine him in a tux in a church.
“Can I come to your wedding?” Tammy asked.
“Of course you can Tammy, you can be the flower girl” I smiled at her, she squealed and jumped up and down. Alex looked shocked at me, I loved seeing the little girl happy, I guess it gave me a sense of relaxation?
“I can’t wait!” Tammy giggled.
“Tammy it’s probably not going to happen just yet” Alex explained.
“I know… but I just think you are sweet together!” Tammy smiled a baby faced toothy smile. The bell rang and we had to leave, Alex and Tammy walked to their classroom and Anna and I went ours. We entered the classroom to find my classmates talking loudly about me and Alex; they all tensed when I entered.
I just heard the ending comment; “I swear he loves her” it was uttered by Seth he had always been nice to me, I knew he would back me up in this matter.
“Thank you Seth… for being so understanding” I mumbled, I looked at the floor.
“You’re welcome” Seth came over to me and Anna, so now we were three in our group.
“Hey do you wanna hang out today?” Anna asked Seth.
“Anna you can’t you promised you’d be at the mansion today!” I whined.
“Oh yeah that’s right… well do you want to hang out at Alex’s place today?”
Seth looked wide eyed. “Yeah sure” he smiled.
Our math teacher came in, and looked the class over, he then glared at me. Seth noticed this, and looked at Anna.
“The teachers hate Sonea and Alex for being together, you know all that with the law” she ex-plained, I looked down at the table.
“Those pigs!” Seth was clearly angry.
“It’s okay” I mumbled. The speakers suddenly switched on, and principal Barrowman’s voice filled every classroom in the entire school:
“Sonea Jackson and Alex Truman report to my office right now” the speakers went quiet, and eve-rybody started at me.
“See you later” I said to Seth and Anna, and rose from my seat. I opened the door to find Alex wait-ing for me just outside.
“Hey princess” he smiled brightly, I heard gasps and wolf whistles behind me, the entire class looked at us. I blushed and didn’t know what to do, fortunately Alex did, he closed the door, smiling at the class, and nodded at the giggling Anna.
“Let’s go” he lead the way.
We went down the stairs and walked along the hallway, some teachers even looked out from their classrooms as we passed.
Alex knocked on the door and opened it.
“Ah yes come in kids” Barrowman smiled politely.
“Hi” I piped up.
“So you two, ha?” he laughed. I instantly blushed and looked at my feet; Alex stood tall and looked real handsome.
“Relax I’m not here to judge” he seemed to mean it. “I actually wanted to tell you, I think it would be a good lesson, for the other kids at this school, to see teachers as more than teachers, so I don’t want you to hide away, this may be hard, but you knew that from the start” Alex nodded.
“Alex you’re the kids favorite teacher, and everybody wants you in their class, you aren’t going an-ywhere, if that’s what worries you” Barrowman laughed, Alex loosened up a little.
“No what worries me is Sonea’s father; he’s not going to stop this easily”
“No that’s a problem I can’t help with, but if you two need any help, you have my number”
“Thanks” Alex mumbled.
“Okay that was all, you can go back to class” we thanked him again, and went out into the hallway and started walking to our classrooms.
“Alex can Anna and I hang out with Seth at your house today?”
Alex eyed me then; “No I don’t think that’s a good idea” he looked straight ahead.
“Why not?” I asked sweetly.
“Because…. We’re having a cleaning day at the mansion” Alex said hesitantly.
“Wait a second! You’re lying! You’re jealous!” I giggled.
“No I’m not!” Alex shot at me.
“Yeah you are!” I was soon attacked by Alex, who thought it could be fun, to tickle me until I screamed. I ran down the hallway and was quickly caught by Alex, I squealed as he caught me.
He hugged me and swung me around, I clung to him for dear life, but I soon relaxed, knowing that Alex never would let me fall.
“AHEM!” a male voice brought me down from the heaven I was in, it was my teacher, he looked so angry. Alex let me down, as flash of light I caught his eyes, and he released my hand slowly.
“Thanks for the help Alex, now I know how gravity affects the human body, it will be easier to do my homework now” I acted innocent and walked past the furious teacher.
“Sure thing Sonea… see you at class” I waved at Alex; the teacher pulled me inside and slammed the door.
The day dragged by, when Alex wasn’t there, the other teachers seemed to hate me more than ever, so all in all everything was sucking.

The bell rang.
“Lunch!” Anna jumped up from her chair.
“Oh no!” I felt my pockets, there had to be something! Just a little!
“What’s wrong?”
“I have no money for food!” I whined.
“Fuck no!” Anna felt her pockets. “Neither have I! And Margret even gave me responsibility for both of our lunch money”
Anna sat down with a sigh, and crossed her arms. “I guess we’ll live without food then”
I looked at her shocked. “No Anna don’t say things like that! You scare me!” I joked.
“Don’t joke around Sonea, this is a serious matter!”
“Ehm aren’t Alex like totally rich?” Jessica had eavesdropped on our conversation, and now entered very annoyingly.
“No Alex’s mom and dad are really rich” I said back in a not so friendly way.
“Are you so poor you can’t even pay your own food?”
“No! My money is just stuck in my former home, one day I’ll go get it, but so far Margret has been paying for me” I crossed my arms.
“Are you living at his house now?” Jessica seemed disbelieving.
“Yeah I am” I shot back.
“Margret wouldn’t allow people like you into her home!” Jessica spat. I was furious, but all I could do was look down into the table. Jessica snickered, Anna suddenly stood up with clenched fists.
Fortunately Anna didn’t get to do anything before the door burst open and Otto came in, he held the door as Alex tried to get inside, I could only see his hands.
“Otto help!” I head Alex gasp, as his hands suddenly disappeared.
Otto grabbed onto him and pulled him inside, his hair was a mess, and he looked like he had been walking in a thunderstorm.
“Hi” he brushed his clothes off, and smiled at us, Anna and I laughed.
“Otto can you go out and help mom? I think they discovered her schoolgirl disguise” Alex laughed.
“Be here in five” and with that, Anna, Alex and I was left with a classroom filled with staring teen-agers.
“Here Alex have a seat!” Anna motioned towards the empty seat next to me.
He sat down and pulled me onto him. “Hey princess” I of course blushed like crazy.
“See he can call you princess without you do anything, it’s not fair!” Anna complained.
“Boyfriends have special rights!” I stuck out my tongue at her.
“So Alex finally asked?” Margret came through the door. “About time too!” Margret made her way over to us. “Here girls I had the chef make you some lunch”
“Thank you! You’re a life saver!” Anna started eagerly on the king size sandwich.
“Oh and here Alex, you’ve got a special one, because you’re way too skinny!” Margret pinched his cheek.
“Mom!” Alex complained. “I’m at work; you can’t come over here and be all mom-like”
“Oh honey, I can do whatever I want!” she laughed a little. “I also came here to say to the two of you, you have an interview after school in the living room” I looked at her in horror.
“An interview!?” I breathed.
“Yes Sonea it’s not so bad, don’t be nervous”
“I’m no-”
“Hey” Seth came into view; he had probably been down to get lunch.
“Hi” I greeted him. “Margret this is Seth, he’s in our class”
“Pleased to meet you” Seth said charmingly.
“Can he come to the mansion and hang out today?” Anna asked with puppy dog eyes.
“Of course any friend of yours is a family friend” she looked at her clock. “Well I have to go prepare for the interview, see you at home!” she walked to the door. “Oh and take a look at this adorable picture!” she tossed a magazine at us; Alex caught it before it hit me, and folded it out.

The title read: The Truman Prince and his much younger Princess returns to school!
The front picture was of Alex carrying me through the crowd this morning, we actually looked really sweet.
“Awww” Anna said as she looked over my shoulder. “Turn the page! There’s an article!”
Alex did, and more pictures met our eyes. There were most pictures of me, which I didn’t like, for-tunately there were only pictures of me with my sunglasses on, there were no embarrassing pictures. Except for one apparently taken this morning, outside the Truman mansion, the very moment where I nearly fell on my butt.
“Wow I didn’t know they were so good at hiding!” I sighed.
“Look there’s an interview with Tammy!” Alex pointed. “She told them that we’re planning to get married sometime in the future!” Alex looked at me.
“Don’t look at me like that, I’m getting married in the future, and I don’t care that they know that, I will get married with or without you!” I crossed my arms. Everybody went quiet.
“It’s been her dream since she was a child” Anna explained.
“Yes! And I will have my wedding and I will have a family!” I stuck my nose upwards.
“That’s a nice dream for the future” Seth smiled, and I couldn’t help but smile back at him. Alex looked evilly at him, and I poked Alex’s shoulder playfully. He threatened to drop me, but I just stated that he wouldn’t dare, he eventually admitted that I was right. We ate the last of our huge sandwiches, and talked until the bell rang.
“Hey you have biology now!” Alex got up. “Let’s get to it!” We followed a very much hyper active Alex to the biology room, the door was already unlocked.
We went into the classroom, and found an old teacher unpacking his stuff.
“What are you doing here?” Alex asked.
“I’m taking over this class from now on”
“No you can’t do that! This is my class!” Alex crossed his arms over chest.
“Not anymore no, because of that slut next to you, this is now my class”
Alex slammed his fist onto the nearest table, he looked furious.
“Don’t you ever dare talk about her like that again!” Alex roared, I gasped out of shock.
The old teacher could only back startled away, as Alex walked up behind his desk and making the teacher back towards the door.
“Now you better fuck off! Or I will hire the best lawyers Hollywood has ever seen, and I will hunt your fu- old ass all the way to hell! And I won’t stop before you lose every opportunity of getting a job again! And you will die a lonely man, wishing you hadn’t ever called Sonea anything!” the teacher fled out of the room, and Alex tried really hard to regain his self-control.
“Alex you didn’t have t-”
Alex stood up, and flattened his hair. “Yes I did Sonea” he said impressively calm. I looked out at the class; they were looking terrified at Alex, some even with open mouths.
Alex took his rightful place as teacher and said; “If you would all turn to page twenty four please, we’re starting a new subject called; cloning”

Anna, Seth and I sat down at our own table, in this class we never talked during the lesson. There was a bit of an embarrassing moment, when I had my hand up for a question, and Alex said; “Yes princess?” the others laughed, and I think I blushed past the shades of a tomato.
Alex had laughed too, so in biology things were already back to normal, except for the fact that our teacher was my boyfriend, for some reason I couldn’t help saying it, over and over in my head.
The bell rang yet again, the day was finally over, and we packed our things into our bags.

“Read page twenty four, five and six till next time, and make some good notes!” Alex called out to the class, he never gave us too much, because he knew we had other classes too, the other teachers could learn from him, they only thought of their own subject.
“You ready princess?” Alex rummaged through his bag, and found his black sunglasses. He put them on, and I couldn’t help but laugh and wolf whistle. He immediately blushed, but smiled broadly at me.
I found mine too, and put them on, of course then Alex whistled at me so we were even.
We stepped out into the hallway, and hand in hand we made our way through the crowd of students, for some reason they all fled to the sides and gave us room.
“Hey Sonea wait!” Stephanie one of my friends called in the hall.
“Yeah?” I smiled.
“Can I have an interview for the school paper?”
“What? With me?” I looked around, no, there wasn’t anyone else around.
“Yeah of course with you, and you too Alex, if we can?”
“Sure” Alex smiled.

“Okay… when did you first meet?”
“Alex’s first biology lesson” I said before Alex could.
“What was it that made you fall for Sonea, Alex?”
“Where should I start?” he took some time. “Well everything about her makes me go crazy, but I think the first thing I noticed was her smile, she has this special smile she only uses with me, which is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen”
“Awww” Anna came up behind us.
“The first thing Sonea noticed was Alex’s eyes, she told me” Anna faked my voice and blinked her eyes as she said; “I’ve never seen so beautiful and kind eyes in my life!”
“O-Okay” Stephanie said writing it down.
“Hey!” I snapped at Anna.
“What?” she laughed. “You know it’s true!”
I paused, and looked at Alex. “Yeah it is” I admitted. “But there are many other things”
Stephanie looked at her watch. “I unfortunately don’t have time for that, any last comments?”
“Alex asked me to be his girlfriend today, and I said yes” I said proudly.
“Sonea’s crazy” Alex stated his comment.
“That’s good” Stephanie smiled and wrote down. “I promise I’ll make the best article ever, can I have your phone number Sonea, so I can ask some questions later?” she paused. “I have to start now, if the article will be in the school paper”
“Yeah sure” I gave her a piece of paper with my number on it.
“Cool see yak around” she trotted off.
“Let’s go, or we’ll be late for the interview” Alex lead me to the doors, and as always there were a lot of people waiting for me. Otto met up with us, with two other bodyguards to protect us, I didn’t catch their names because I was lead out into the crowd by Alex.
“Sonea!” I looked around at the sound of my name, I found no one. Alex’s hand was all I could see, and then the all the interviewers, who all begged for a statement.
“Sonea!” I looked again, I knew that voice.
“Sonea!” I spotted a waving hand, I knew that hand.
“Sonea! It’s me… Mom!” I gasped and pulled on Alex’s hand.
“Alex it’s my mom!”
“Sonea! Another time, there’s too many!”
“No! I haven’t seen her in so long!” I stomped my feet in the ground.
“Fine” Alex sighed. He led the way through the crowd, and all the way over to a fence that was put up to block out the local people, there was really many, but I didn’t focus on that, I only saw my mom.
“Mom!” I hugged her close, I felt my heart soften and then it was like a needle was stuck into it.
“Honey I’ve missed you so much!” she hugged me tighter. My eyes stung with tears, I had missed her so much.
“Mom I’m sorry!” I croaked.
“No I am! Your dad is too stubborn, but he loves you, remember that!”
“How can I? When he started this whole thing!” I felt a tear fall from my covered up eyes, another one followed.
“Honey I know” she looked around. “I think you’d better get out of here, take care of her Alex”
“I always have, and always will!” Alex called over all the noise. His arm went around my waist, and he led me towards the car. I tried to stop the tears, but I couldn’t. The photographers seemed to go crazy over all the emotion, I saw my mom run to her car, and drive away before they got to her. My head face the ground, and Alex tried his best at blocking me from view.
As soon as we reached the car, Alex helped me inside, he then crawled inside himself, the car door was closed and we were off. I couldn’t hold it in anymore, and now I didn’t have to. Alex locked me in, in the seat belt, and pulled me close.
I tried not to stain his jacket, but it was impossible, then he took it off, and I stained his t-shirt too.
“What happened?” Seth asked, I had completely forgotten about him.
“She met her mom” Alex said lowly, Anna gasped, and Seth didn’t get it at all.
“Sonea had to run away from home, because of her dad, she haven’t seen her mom in a long time” Anna quickly explained.
“Oh” Seth looked down. “I’m sorry”
“I’m sorry too!” I sobbed.
“Why” Alex asked.
