I Left My Conscience

To Drinks At The Club, To The Bar

Present

Jeph hands Lacey a drink, and she thanks him before taking a sip. Jeph’s eyes studies her for a moment before he takes a sip of his own drink. They were both aware, though, of three other men who were watching both of them. Bert, Quinn, and Dan couldn’t help but wonder who this girl was that had tagged along with them. They had all made small talk on the walk here, learning that the girl’s name was Lacey.

Jeph was getting annoyed by the stares that the pair was getting and he could tell that Lacey was nervous. After a little while of awkwardness, Jeph leans towards Bert.

“Is there something wrong?” he asks them, sick of being stared at.

“No, man,” Bert says. “I think we’re just a bit jealous. She’s definitely not bad looking.”

Jeph rolls his eyes in annoyance. Of course.

“I think we’re going to go someplace else,” Jeph says. Lacey couldn’t help but feel relieved when she heard Jeph. “I’ll meet up with you guys at the hotel later.”

Jeph turns to Lacey and smiles at her.

“Let’s get out of here,” he says. Lacey returns the smile and follows Jeph out of the crowded club. They walk down the sidewalk for about a minute before finding a bar that looks quiet but not sketchy at the same time. They go inside and Jeph tells Lacey to go find an empty booth while he gets the drinks.

She finds one in a corner away from everyone else in the bar and a minute later, Jeph finds her sitting in the same seat as hers and handing her one of the bottles of beer in his hands. Lacey can feel their legs touching and she enjoys the feeling of someone sitting so close to her. She drinks some of her beer.

“I’m not boring you, am I?” Jeph asks.

“No,” Lacey replies. “Why?”

“You’re just quiet,” he replies. Jeph watches as Lacey’s cheeks go red.

“Sorry,” she says. Jeph chuckles.

“It’s fine,” he says. “It’s kind of a nice change.”

They sit in silence, drinking their beers and just enjoying the company.

I may have screwed up the POV in this, and if I did, I apologize. I also apologize for this chapter sucking. Should get better, though, I hope.
