She leaned her hip against the counter, pulling out the pad of paper that sat near the phone, along with one of the many pens that Ville had scattered around the tower, and started writing Ville a note that she could post near the coffee maker. She’d gotten as far as writing his name when she felt strong arms wrap around her waist and lips kiss the side of her neck.

“Morning.”

“Morning, liar.” she laughed, turning around in his arms.

“Why am I a liar?” He grinned, brushing his lips against her neck again.

“You said you’d get up to help me get Aida to school, but when I tried to wake up you refused to get up.”

“I’m sorry.” He whispered against her neck, “I can make it up to you; we have the tower all to ourselves now.”

“No, no, no.” Soya laughed her hands coming up to his chest and pushing him away before he started anything. “I was writing you a note to tell you where I was going to be, I have things to do today.”

“So early in the morning?” he asked, pulling the pad of paper towards him, seeing only his name written out in Soya’s small fancy script before tossing it back towards the phone.

“I’m meeting Natali and Toni at the dance studio where Natali has her classes then I’m meeting Linde for lunch.”

“You’re meeting Linde for lunch?” Ville asked looking at her. “Am I not invited?”

“As we’ll be talking about you behind your back, no, you’re not invited.” Soya teased, going to the refrigerator and grabbing a bottle of water. “I’ll be back later after I pick up Aida, I’m going to stop by the flat first though, I need to get Aida’s clothes and a few of my own things.” She said putting the bottle in the gray oversized purse that sat on the counter, when Ville looked inside he saw that she also had a change of clothes in the bag.

“You know what would be an awesome birthday present?” he asked, looking back at her with a grin.

“And what’s that?” she asked, making sure she had everything in her bag.

“Boxes with your stuff in them.”

Soya frowned at him. “What?”

“For you to officially move all of your things in here.”

Soya laughed, patting his cheek, before leaning up to kiss it. “We’ll start working on that this weekend, now I have to go, I’m already running late, I’ll see you later all right?”

“All right.” Ville nodded, pulling her to him and kissing her, before letting her go. “”Are you sure-”

“I’m positive I have to go.” She laughed knowing where his mind was headed. “I’ll be back later, and I’ll make us dinner, I’m tired of ordering out.”

“So, you’re just going to leave me here, all alone?” Ville pouted, leaning against the counter, watching as she pulled on a black and blue hooded sweater over a grey racer back tank top. She also wore black tight yoga pants that he really wanted to peel off her legs, and grey sneakers.

“You can start clearing out the attic so we can make room for Aida in that second bedroom.” She smirked. “Make sure you have your inhaler with you when you go up there Ville.”

“Yes mother.” Ville said rolling his eyes, though he made a mental note to find his inhaler before he made the trip up to the attic.

“Oh!” Soya said grabbing her purse off the counter and shouldering it. “If you want me to start planning a May wedding then I’m also telling Natali and Toni about our engagement today.”

Ville groaned. “Really?”

“You want me to get a dress don’t you?” Soya questioned, looking at him with a raised eyebrow.

“Yes.” Ville groaned, knowing what was coming next.

“And since you can’t come with me to find my dress, then I want to tell my girlfriends that I’m getting married so they can come with me.”

“Fine, tell Toni and Natali.” Ville nodded, it was time to tell their friends anyway, and he really did want Soya to have help other than him when it came to planning the wedding. He was fine with helping pick colors, their guest list, the little things, but when it came to the big things, he was going to come of no help. Yes, it was best for Soya to tell her girl friends and have them help her.

“And since I’m telling the girls, that means your job is telling the boys. So today, you get to figure out a way to tell them within the week.”

Ville sighed; he’d known that was what was coming next. “Fine.”

“Fine, I’ll see you later.” Soya grinned, turning back, ready to leave for the day only to stop when she felt Ville grab onto her wrist.

“Soya.” Ville started, staring at her.

“Yes?”

“Last night…” He started, he watch as Soya deflated and looked back at him. “I want to know each and every question that is still running through your head Soya. I want to know the doubts. We don’t have to answer every single one of them now, but we do need to answer them.”

“I know.” She nodded looking at his hand that encircled her wrist, his thumb slowly running over her pulse point.

Ville brought her hand up, kissing the inside of her wrist lightly. “We’ll put them on hold for now,” he told her, knowing Soya the way he did, too much pressure on her and she would pull away and deal with it herself instead of sharing with him. She didn’t mean to do it, but it was her way of releasing the burden on everyone else, by shouldering it herself. “But I need you to talk to me Soya, I know it is instinct for you to just put everything on yourself, but you need to realize that this is an equal partnership, you don’t need to anymore. No matter what you fear I will think, I need you to talk to me.”

“I know.”

“You say you know, but are you going to do it Soya?”

Soya bit her lip and nodded as she looked at him. “Yes, yes, I’ll talk to you.”

“All right.” Trusting her word he released her wrist, not before placing another kiss on it. “For now, those questions, just…stop thinking about them. Come January when we’re in New York, we’ll start asking and answering them all right?”

“All right.” She nodded, walking over to him, leaning up to kiss his chin. “I love you, you know that?”

Ville smiled, leaning down himself to kiss her, before turning her around and swatting her behind. “I love you too, now go on or you’ll be late.”

Soya laughed, “I’ll see you later Ville.”

He called out a goodbye, starting the coffee pot with a yawn, hearing the tower door close before deciding what he wanted to do first. Hole up in the studio and work or clear out a bit of attic space so he could store some of the excess things he had in his second bedroom to make a bit of room for Aida’s bed? Sighing he knew he had to clear out the attic first before he lost track of time in his writing. Now where did he leave his blasted inhaler?

Soya sat in the middle of the hardwood floor next to Natali and they both stretched, their legs open in front of them, while their hands reached forward, bending forward to align their spine.

“How was Berlin?” Natali asked absently.

“Wonderful.” Soya grinned, turning her head to look at her friend, before she pushed herself up and leaned back on her hands to see Toni playing with her camera. “As was Barcelona, both were a much needed break from…everything.”

“I bet,” Toni grinned up at her. “You and Ville look much more relaxed, less…tense.”Toni teased.

“Yes, very much less tense.” Soya laughed, catching on to Toni’s teasing. “Toni, I actually wanted to talk to you.”

“About?”

“Well, both of you really.” Soya said as Natali straightened.

“Well I’m intrigued.” Natali grinned as Toni walked closer to them.

“Well, I mean,” Soya sighed, looking at Natali. “You planned your wedding right?”

Natali laughed. “I did, well with help.”

She turned to Toni, “And you and Linde, you’re starting to plan right?”

Toni shrugged. “We’ve talked about the basics, guest list, size, colors, but for the most part we’re waiting until things for him have calmed down to really set anything in stone.”

“Is that what you start with first though?” Soya asked looking between Toni and Natali and they both stared at her.

“Why Soya?” Natali grinned. “Planning a wedding?”

“As a matter of fact I am.” Soya grinned back, causing both Toni and Natali to squeal in excitement and launch themselves at her.

“Let’s see the ring!” Toni laughed, as she pulled away from Soya. Soya held out her left hand, letting Toni and Natali see the ring she’d been wearing since Ville had put it on her finger.

“So pretty.” Natali said with a smile.

“I’m guessing you and Ville have set a date if you’re asking how to plan a wedding.” Toni said with a smirk.

“May.” Soya sighed.

“You want to get married in May?” Natali asked with wide eyes.

He wants to get married in May, but…” Soya said with a grin, taking her hand back from Toni. “I like the idea of a May wedding as well; I just didn’t realize how much work would need to get done and a lot of it I need to get done here in the next two months.”

“Are you asking us for help?” Natali asked amused. “Because if you are, we are going to have so much fun with this! Planning Ville Valo’s wedding, oh Toni, did you ever see the day?”

Toni laughed. “Not at all!”

“Glad to know you had so much faith in my fiancé!” Soya laughed.

“Oh we had the utmost faith in Ville, just none in the girls he dated.” Natali laughed. “That is until you.”

“So sweet!” Soya laughed, accepting the kiss Natali pressed on her cheek.

“Now, the question is do we dance or do we leave and start looking for your dress?” Natali asked looking at Soya.

“I haven’t danced in ages!” Soya said flexing her toes, “And I’d rather go dress shopping when I’ve told Elli and Inka, and when we’ve told Vedrana. I’d like all of your help to plan this thing. That and the boys still don’t know.”

“When will they find out?” Toni asked.

“I told Ville he had to tell them this week, so hopefully this week.” Soya laughed. “And as much as I’d like to go dress shopping today, I still have to meet your fiancé for lunch.” She said looking at Toni. “And I have to go pack up some things from my flat.”

“Pack?” Natali asked. “Are you starting to pack for New York already? I thought you still had two months.”

“No, not at all, Ville convinced me to move in with him for the remainder of my stay, so I want to pack up a few of my things for this week, before starting the actual move this weekend.”

Toni and Natali looked at each other, before looking back at Soya. “You’re moving in together?” Toni asked with a grin.

“We are.” Soya nodded, flexing her toes again.

“When was this decided?” Natali asked slowly.

“Last night.” Soya frowned. “Why?”

Toni looked over at Natali, before turning back to Soya. “How about I give Ville that opening to tell the boys? We’ll have everyone over for dinner tomorrow.”

“That sounds great!” Soya said. “Knowing Ville, he’ll put it off until the very last minute.” She got up, raising her arms over her head and arching her back, “So are we going to dance then?” she asked, grinning at Natali, before helping the younger woman up.

“Let’s,” Natali laughed turning to their red headed friend, “Toni, are you ready?”

“Camera is ready; let’s see what you’ve got.” She grinned, before moving to the stereo in the corner and letting the music that Soya had cued up fill the room.

“So why am I meeting you here?” Soya asked, later that afternoon as she walked up the sidewalk to find her dreadlocked friend waiting for her.

Linde turned and watched as Soya walked towards him, accepting her hug. He looked her up and down; glad to see she wasn’t wearing the workout clothes he knew she’d been in, as Toni had told him what they were planning for their morning.

Instead she was wearing black skinny jeans, little shredded rips going up and down the legs, a dark green military inspired button down shirt that cinched at her waist with a wide light brown belt, and matching dark green flats graced her feet and a grey oversized bag was over her shoulder.

“Good, you look good.”

“Thank you?” Soya asked looking at him oddly. “Now what are we doing at Corona bar? You know I don’t drink.”

“I know you don’t.” Linde smirked. “But the man we’re meeting does, and he only agreed to meet with us if I bought him a few.”

“A few what?” Soya asked slowly staring at her friend.

“Rounds.” Linde laughed.

“So…you asked me to lunch not to talk about what it’s going to cost me to buy that guitar off of you but to meet a drunkard?”

Linde looked at her offended. “I’d hardly call the man a drunkard! And I’m not selling you the damn guitar Soya.”

Soya sighed. “Then who am I meeting?”

Linde grinned. “I made a few calls last night and this morning, and well…” He hooked his arm with Soya’s and walked her towards the inside of the bar. “Since I’m not selling you my guitar, I thought I’d get you the next best thing.”

“And what’s that? A guitar you found on eBay? Linde, I’m positive Ville knows every guitar that Andy McCoy has used.”

“No.” Linde laughed, pointing to a table, towards the back of the bar, grinning when he saw Soya’s open mouth of shock. “I thought getting you Andy McCoy himself would do the trick.”

He had too much shit. Ville thought as he sat in the middle of his attic looking at the boxes he’d shoved up there when he’d moved in. Most of the boxes were taken from his parent’s house after he had bought the tower, childhood things, clothes his parents had kept from his youth, and albums with pictures that were only duplicates as his mother had kept all the originals in her own albums. But even as he got rid of things he should have gotten rid of years ago, and converted two boxes into one, by moving things around, he still had too much shit.

Pulling one of the boxes closer he opened it up and coughed with a burst of dust came out. He’d listened to Soya and had found his inhaler, which was kept by his leg as he opened each and every box.

Once the dust had cleared, he scrounged through the box that held old pictures. He flipped through them grinning at the old pictures of him, Linde and Mige when they had just started with the band. He remembered the pictures being taken as they were around the time he’d met Soya.

Frowning, he thought about the picture Soya had in her office in New York, the one with him and her sitting in a coffee shop somewhere in Helsinki. She’d said there were more pictures of them. Going through the rest of the box, he didn’t see any pictures of Soya mixed in, just of him and his friends, or him and his family. Pushing the box away he looked around the room, but he couldn’t, for the life of him, even remember his mother ever giving him pictures of him and Soya when they’d been younger.

Running a hand through his hair, he picked up his inhaler and left the attic, an idea forming in his head. When he reached the kitchen, he picked up the phone dialing his parent’s house, grinning when he heard his mother pick up the phone.

Äiti, I have a favor to ask.”
