Scream Me a Dream

Chapter 28: Arrivals

Soya glared at Ville as Ed adjusted the crutches to her height. “You know how to use them?” Ed asked, adjusting the last one.

“Broken my leg before.” Soya muttered, wincing when she adjusted her leg, putting pressure on her left ankle.

“You must have a high tolerance for pain.” Ed told her, noticing the wince. “If all you can muster is a wince with the pressure.”

“Or just stupid.” Ville muttered.

Soya decided to ignore the comment as she settled back down on the bed, Ed propping the crutches on the wall next to her.

“Do you have your brace with you?” Ed asked.

Soya nodded. “It’s in my suitcase.”

“I’ll go grab it.” Ville said getting up from his chair and leaving the room. Soya sat on the bed patiently as Ed wrapped her ankle with an ace bandage. Really her tolerance for pain wasn’t low, but it wasn’t high either. The only reason she wasn’t crying out in pain or shedding tears was because she’d trained herself not to show pain, so Rebecca (who tended to sit in on rehearsals) wouldn’t know her ankle was bothering her.

“I know it isn’t the prettiest.” Ed told her. “But you have to keep it on. When do you start your next recital?”

Soya shrugged. “Late December.”

“Then I’ll give you my number.” Ed said securing the bandage as Ville walked in with the black brace, handing it to Ed, before sitting back down. “A week before you’re due to do….whatever in your dance I want you to come in and we’ll recheck it.” He said slipping the brace on. “If it makes you feel better, I can even meet you here at Bam’s, but I would prefer to check it out before you start dancing on it again.”

“Any instructions for her, right now?” Ville asked

“Just use the crutches, at least a week.” Ed told her, when he saw the glare she sent the crutches. “Just so the swelling will go down, but I still want you to keep all possible pressure off it.”

Ville saw Soya nod and sighed. “She teaches dance.” Ville told Ed, looking at the man, feeling Soya’s glare. “She dances with her students.”

Ed looked over at Soya and sighed. “Look, obviously, dance is a huge part of your life and if you want it to continue being that way, then you need to stay off it. You’re a teacher right?”

Soya nodded slowly.

“Find a way to teach your students without being on your ankle; I’m sure you can manage that. But fuck, I’m not your real doctor so you don’t have to listen to a damn word I say.” He packed up his laptop and set four white pills on the nightstand. “Ibuprofen, 200 mg each. It’ll help with the pain and the swelling. Bam has my number so I’ll tell him to give it to you.”

“Thank you.” Soya whispered. “It may not seem like it, but I’m grateful you did this.”

Ed shrugged. “It’s not a problem. I’ll send any reports and x-rays to Bam. Take care of yourself Soya.” Ed told her with a kind smile before walking out of the room, the x-ray machine having been taken downstairs already.

Ville and Soya looked at the white pills before Ville got up, grabbed them and stuffed them in his pocket. “I’ll go ask Bam to take me to the store and get Children’s Tylenol. Anything that’s going to be in this house is going to be full strength.”

“I can take half of the ibuprofen.” Soya told him. “I’ll be fine.”

Ville scratched the back of his head, the last time they’d given Soya a 200 mg pain killer was because she’d had a headache, but refused to leave the garage any earlier than she had to. They’d given her one pill and she’d passed out so hard that, had she not been breathing they would have swore she had died.

“I’ll be right back.” Ville told her, walking out of the room and down the stairs to the kitchen.

“Hey.” Bam greeted, as Ville scrounged the drawers for a knife.

“Hey.” Ville said, putting one of the pills on the cutting board.

“Do you think Soya will still be able to come out tonight?”

Ville shrugged as he cut the pill in half. “Depends on how hard this ibuprofen hits her. I need to run and get her Children’s Tylenol too.”

“Children’s?” Bam asked with a raised eyebrow

“Soya can’t take full strength meds.”

“Right.” Bam nodded, remembering the poolside conversation they had had. “They make her loopy.”

“One dose of Children’s Tylenol will affect her the same way five ibuprofens will affect us.”

“If you want, I’ll pick up the Children’s Tylenol on my way from ‘The Note’ so you can stay with Soya.”

“Yeah, that’d be great.” Ville nodded, putting the knife away and grabbing the two halves.

“I’ll be back later, then.” Bam said grabbing his keys as Ville grabbed a water bottle and headed back up the stairs. He found Soya sitting on the bed, glaring at her ankle.

“Glaring at it isn’t going to make it better.” Ville told her as he handed her half of the pill and the bottle of water.

“It makes me feel better.” She muttered as she swallowed the pill and water. She looked up at Ville and sighed when she saw the frustration in his eyes. “You’re still upset with me.”

“I’m not…” Ville sighed and sat down on the bed next to her. “All right I’m upset.”

“I know.” Soya said with a quiet laugh.

“You’ve always been like this, Soya.” Ville told her. “You don’t take care of yourself the way you should.”

Soya smiled at him and patted his leg. “You can’t say I’ve always been like this, when you haven’t seen me in the last thirteen years.”

“Soya.” Ville groaned.

“I know, I know.” She sighed.

“Obviously you don’t.” Ville told her. “You don’t eat as you should; you’re obviously not taking care of your ankle like you should.”

“And I’m not a child.” Soya told him again. “I do eat well. I eat small meals, Ville. I’m not unhealthy at all. As for my ankle…” she sighed. “Yes, I messed up in that area, but I do take care of myself.”

Ville looked over at her and gave a short nod.

“Come here.” She said scooting over carefully on the bed, so he could lie next to her. Ville adjusted himself so he could lay his head on her stomach, his arm wrapped just above her hips. “You worry about me, just like I worry about everyone. I’m fine, and I promise I will follow Ed’s orders to the letter. I’ll even use the blasted crutches,”

“Promise?” Ville muttered.

“I swear.” She laughed, running her fingers through his curly hair. “You know, a few years ago, I had lunch with Rosalind.”

“I’m guessing it was a pretty important lunch if you’re telling me about it now.” Ville teased her.

“I got to the restaurant first and she came in very disgruntled. Apparently she had wanted me to meet a friend of hers, a very good looking friend of hers and he refused to get out of bed.”

Ville groaned. “Don’t tell me that.”

‘He’s being a stubborn ass, I can’t believe he wouldn’t get out of bed!’ were the words she said.”

“She would call me that.” Ville muttered. “Then again, we’d all gone to bed around four, after a night of drinking, I’m pretty sure I was still drunk when she tried to wake me up. I’m also positive I tossed her out of the bed when she got in and tried to push me off.”

“Such violent behavior from both of you.” Soya teased.

“She’s bitten me!” Ville defended. “I’m pretty sure I still have the bite mark!”

“Don’t worry, she’s bitten me too.” Soya laughed. “And we both know she’s bitten Jyrki.”

Ville burst out laughing. “Countless times.”

Bam parked the hummer behind the bar, and grinned when he saw the tour bus parked there as well. Getting out, and locking the doors, he went over to the bus, banging on the door, only for it to open and Jyrki to rush out and close the door behind him.

“Hey.” Jyrki said, accepting the hug from Bam.

“Hey!” Bam looked around. “Where is everyone?”

“Timo, Baize and Archzie decided to get a room for the next few nights.” Jyrki told him.

“And Jussi?” Bam smirked.

“On the bus, he’s taking a nap.” Jyrki told him. “Where’s Soya? I thought you would bring her by.”

“Back at the house. We had a bit of an accident.”

“Nothing is an accident with you. What happened?” Jyrki laughed as they walked through the back door of the bar.

“We poured water on Ville and Soya this morning, she hurt her ankle getting out of the bed.” Bam said wanting to tone down her injury. “She’s resting.”

“Ville’s with her?”

“When is he not?” Bam laughed. “They’re attached to the hip.”

“Jealous?” Jyrki teased.

Bam laughed. “Nah, they’re… you know…”

“Cute?” Jyrki laughed as he settled down on a stool at the bar, while Bam went behind the bar to fix them drinks.

“Whatever.” Bam shrugged.

Jyrki chuckled. “Rosalind’s been trying to set them up for years.”

“Apparently scheduling has been a bitch.”

Jyrki nodded, accepting the beer that Bam handed him. “We’re all so busy. It’s just worked out that whenever Soya’s touring with her company, Rose and I are in New York and when Soya’s in New York, we’re touring.”

Bam nodded. “I didn’t realize you and the guys toured with one band all the time.”

Jyrki laughed. “Not all the time,” he admitted. “Our tours just tend to coincide.”

“Coincide?” Bam laughed. “Ville and Soya say you merge your tours.”

“We do, at times.” Jyrki shrugged. “It’s not a big deal. We just tend to tour at the same time and record at the same time.”

“You so have something going on with the Rosalind chick.”

Jyrki grinned. “I so do.”

Bam laughed. “Seriously?”

Jyrki nodded and took a drag of his beer. “She’s an amazing woman, but it’s complicated. So very complicated.” Jyrki laughed. “As for touring I think in total we’ve merged three, and it’s usually just for a couple shows. But we do tend to go to towns that are only a few hours away from each other. We all just get along.”

“That’s good.” Bam grinned. “So….how’s the sex?”

Jyrki laughed, “Sex is good, sex is…quite amazing.”

“And now I’m jealous.” Bam laughed. “Jussi said you had a stowaway on your bus.”

“Ah, he told you that?” Jyrki asked, though Bam caught the hesitation in Jyrki’s voice.

“Why? Is it a big deal?”

“Not at all.”

“Hei!”

They both turned towards the back of the bar and saw Jussi walking in. Jyrki raised an eyebrow as he looked behind Jussi. “Where is she?”

“On the bus.” Jussi said and smiled at Bam. “Hey Bam!”

“Hey.” Bam greeted back with his own grin, about to ask Jussi if he wanted anything to drink, only to have Jyrki cut him off.

“You left her on the bus alone!” Jyrki hissed getting up.

“She’s fine.” Jussi waved off.

“Last time she was left alone she snuck onto our bus!” Jyrki reminded.

“Again she’s fine, she wants clothes though.” Jussi smirked. “Actually, she said to ask you for your magic card that goes ‘whoosh’.”

Jyrki laughed and grabbed his wallet from his back pocket handing Jussi his credit card. “For her, not you.”

“Yeah I know.” Jussi said, rolling his eyes.

“Get her what she wants, let her choose.”

“I’ve gone shopping with her before, I know how she is.” Jussi told him. “I’ll be back later.”

“Sound check.” Jyrki reminded him.

“Yeah, like she would let me forget that.” Jussi laughed. “See you later Bam.”

“Bye Jus.” Bam said with a frown, turning back to Jyrki who sat back down. “So who is ‘she’? The stowaway? And why are you letting her shop with your credit card?”

Jyrki laughed and gave a nod. “‘She’ is the stowaway, but I’m not going to tell you who she is, I think I like the mystery that surrounds her.”

“You’re a bastard.”

“Yes,” Jyrki laughed. “I am.”

Novak looked up from his spot on the couch when he heard the front door close, waving when he saw Missy lugging her suitcases into the living room.

“You could help.” Missy told him, pushing her hair out of her face.

“I could.” Novak said thinking about it. “But I won’t.”

Missy rolled her eyes. “Where’s Bam?”

“Out.”

“That helps.” Missy said as she climbed up the stairs, leaving her suitcases by the stairs. She was definitely ready to pass out in bed and rest for the remainder of the day, of course she would have liked to have her husband to cuddle up with, but his pillow would probably do.

She opened the door to her room, only to stop when she saw two forms already sleeping on her bed. One she recognized as Ville, the girl he was practically wrapped around, she didn’t recognize.

“Hey! You’re back!”

Missy looked behind her to see Bam coming towards her, holding a white plastic grocery bag. “I just got in. There are people in our bed.” She told him.

Bam leaned down and kissed her before going in. “I guess they fell asleep in here.” Bam shrugged.

“Who’s the girl?” Missy asked.

“Ville’s friend, Soya; remember we were talking about her before you left.” Bam told her, as he shook Ville awake.

Ville blinked and looked up from Soya’s stomach, causing her to groan lightly but stay asleep.

“I got the Tylenol.” Bam told him, holding up the plastic bag.

Ville nodded and sat up carefully from the bed, not wanting to wake Soya up. She’d been right about the half ibuprofen, it had helped with the pain and though it had put her to sleep, it wasn’t enough to put her completely under.

“Thanks.” Ville said taking the bag and looking through it, only to raise an eyebrow. “Why does it look like you got the whole damn pharmacy in here?”

Bam shrugged. “I didn’t know which one to get, you know her better.”

“I’m surprised they didn’t question the amount of drugs you have in here.”

“They did and I sort of explained.” Bam laughed.

“Hey Ville.” Missy said.

“Hey Missy.” Ville smiled, standing up and giving her a hug. “You’re back early.”

“I was ready to come home.”

“And I’m in your bed.” Ville laughed. “Sorry, is the room fixed?” Ville asked Bam.

“Should be.”

“I’ll go check real quick, and then I’ll come back for Soya. Careful though, she’s just napping and it was hard to get her to sleep. Somehow she convinced me to sing her to sleep.” Ville shook his head as he left the room.

“So this is Soya?” Missy whispered looking at the woman that was sleeping on her bed.

“Yeah, that’s Soya.” Bam answered.

“She’s really pretty.” Missy said looking at her. Her dark hair was loose and falling across the pillow and bed in waves.

“You guys would get along, Ape loves her already.” Bam told his wife. “Hey, we’re going out tonight.”

“Are we?” Missy laughed.

“Yeah The Eyes are in town.”

“They’re in town?”

They looked over and saw Ville frowning at Bam. “Yeah, they swung by.”

Ville frowned and looked over at Soya, then back at Bam. “Bam…is this your way of apologizing to her?”

Missy looked over at her husband. “What do you have to apologize for?”

“Nothing!” Bam said quickly looking at Missy, then looked at Ville, “And no!”

Ville smirked. “She’ll love it.” He laughed, before going to over to the bed and picking her up gently, only causing her to wake up. “Sorry, kulta. Didn’t mean to wake you, I just need to move you.”

She rested her head on his shoulder with a soft groan. “Only means you’ll have to sing again.”

Ville chuckled, before looking over at Bam. “What time should we be ready?”

“They go on at nine. We’ll leave around eight thirty?”

“That works. So Miss Soya, any requests?” Ville asked as he walked out of the room, Soya’s response drowned out by his laugh.

“They are really cute together.” Missy said, before falling down on the bed.

“So I’ve started to notice.” Bam said slowly.
