Scream Me a Dream

Chapter 75: Getting Ready

Thursday October 14, 2010
8:30 am

Ville felt his eyes fluttered open when he felt soft kisses peppering the side of his neck; groaning, he turned and opened his eyes fully to see Soya leaning over him with a grin.

“Morning.” She said.

“You’re very chipper this morning.” Ville said his voice still thick with sleep. “What time is it?”

“Eight thirty.” Soya chimed.

Ville laughed. “Is this revenge for all the times I woke you up early?”

“It is.” Soya laughed, leaning down and kissing his neck again, causing his arms to wrap around her waist.

“Then please, punish away.” Ville chuckled, as she moved up his neck to his cheek before their lips met, his hands finding their way underneath her sleep shirt and running his fingers down her spine, causing her to moan against his lips, only for her to pull away. “No, no, what are you doing?” He groaned.

Soya frowned. “Did you hear something?”

“Like what?” Ville asked.

Soya shook her head. “I swear I heard something.”

“I didn’t hear anything.” Ville said with a frown.

Soya looked towards her bedroom door, before shaking her head at herself and turning back to Ville with a mischievous quirk of her lips. “Where were we?”

Ville grinned. “We were right about…” he pulled her down so their lips met. “Here.”

“Ah, I remember now.” Soya teased, before pressing her lips more firmly against his, his hands resuming their trek up and down her spine while Soya’s own hands spanned his chest, her thumbs running little circles just underneath his nipples which caused him to groan as he moved his hand to hold Soya’s head in place as he kissed her harder. He was about to run his hand to the front of her body, when he felt her lips be ripped away from his, and Soya’s squeal echo around the room.

His eyes snapped open looking at where Soya’s grey’s eyes should have been, only to be met by blue.

“Fuck!” Ville cursed in surprise when Jyrki smirked at him.

“Morning sunshine.” Jyrki laughed, only for Soya’s laughter to ring out, causing both of them to look over the side of the bed to see Soya and Rosalind wrapped in each other’s arms, hugging. Soya was lying on her back on the floor with Rosalind on top of her.

“Ah, every man’s fantasy. Rosalind Rivera and Soya Toivonen writhing on the floor in a lovers embrace.” Jyrki said with a smirk.

“Oh!” Soya laughed, sitting up and bringing Rosalind with her. “You must be a vampire Jyrki, having moved so fast!” she teased.

“Ah, lots of practice.” Jyrki teased.

“I would say I’m sorry to interrupt but I missed you so much!” Rosalind laughed, hugging Soya again.

“I’m still trying to understand what just happened.” Ville said rubbing his face.

Soya glared at him. “I told you I heard something!” She turned back to Rosalind. “How’d you get in?”

“Mige made Jussi and me a key.” Jyrki said, “And then Rosalind got her own.”

Soya blinked. “I’m starting to lose track of how many people have keys to my flat.”

“I think it would be easier to keep track of who doesn’t.” Rosalind teased.

“What are you even doing here?” Ville asked. “Don’t you have a daughter to take care of?”

Rosalind laughed. “She was supposed to come with me, but she hates the cold and wanted to stay with Luis’s rug-rats. That, and she has soccer practice and I’m here for Jyrki’s birthday of course!”

“Rosalind never misses my birthday.” Jyrki said.

“That’s perfect!” Soya laughed. “Ville and I have to go do something tonight, but I say we all get together here tonight and ring in Jyrki’s birthday at midnight.”

“Will we be done by midnight?” Ville asked.

“Please.” Soya said rolling her eyes. “These parties never last past ten.”

“Party? What party?” Rosalind asked.

Soya shrugged. “My father’s getting some type of award tonight, and Ville and I are going to it.”

“More like she coerced me into it.”

Soya looked over at her clock. “Which reminds me; I have to go get my dress. Rose, want to go with me?”

“Of course I do!”

“Wait, you got a dress?” Ville asked, looking at Soya who was still sitting on the floor.

“Of course I did.” Soya nodded. “I always get a dress for these events, which also reminds me you have to go pick up your suit.”

“Suit?” Jyrki asked, looking over at Ville.

“I didn’t get a suit.” Ville stated.

“I know you didn’t.” Soya laughed as Rosalind stood up, grabbing Soya’s hands and pulling her up. “I ordered you one because I knew you wouldn’t do it yourself, you have to go pick it up, and you have to do it early. I gave them the measurements a little long, just in case they might need to do alterations to it.”

“Oh! Soya, you should get your nails done!” Rosalind said. “I call spa day!”

Soya laughed. “I already called my friend Inka, she’s doing my hair later today, but I can see if she can fit you in to do your nails.” She grabbed her towel and looked at Ville. “Why are you still in bed?”

Ville blinked. “I’m still trying to figure out how we went from kissing to this.”

“Well, figure out fast.” Soya teased before going into her bathroom to take a shower.

“I wonder if she realizes she just walked past us in her underwear.” Jyrki wondered with a smirk.

Ville chuckled, running his hand through his hair. “Doubt it. I don’t think she’s all that awake yet.”

“Then I’ll make the coffee” Rosalind announced, staring out the door.

Jyrki rolled his eyes as he followed. “I’ll make the coffee, you can watch; you can barely turn the damn pot on without burning or cutting yourself.”

Ville rolled his eyes as he got out of bed, and grabbed a pair of his jeans from the ground where he’d left them the night before, before walking out of the room to the kitchen.

“So what are you guys doing here so early?” Ville asked with a yawn as he grabbed a coffee mug from the cabinet.

“Rosalind has no patience.” Jyrki said with a shrug. “I picked her up from the airport about an hour ago and she said she wanted to come here, so we came. We didn’t know we’d be interrupting though.”

“Yes we did.” Rosalind sang, grinning at Ville. “We just didn’t care.”

“Good to know.” Ville chuckled.

“So, what did Soya do to coerce you into this party?” Jyrki asked, leaning against the counter.

Ville laughed. “Not much, she just appealed to my better nature.”

Rosalind snorted as she eyed Ville. “She appealed to your nature as a man.”

“There is that too.” Ville agreed as he watched the coffee sputter into the carafe, before looking at Rosalind. “I see you’re dressed down today.”

Rosalind looked down at herself, long burgundy peasant skirt, an ivory cashmere sweater and a pair of tan heeled boots; she shrugged before looking at Ville. “I’ll wear my brighter colors for you tomorrow.”

“Any plans for tomorrow?” Ville asked as he poured himself coffee from the nearly full carafe, before allowing Jyrki to pour his own cup.

“Rosalind is taking me out on Saturday.” Jyrki said. “She still refuses to tell me where.”

“It’s a surprise.” Rosalind grinned.

“But other than that, no plans.” Jyrki said.

“I’m surprised Impi didn’t want to spend time with you on your birthday.” Ville admitted, leaning against the counter while Rosalind hopped on top of it, Jyrki leaning back against the counter between her legs.

Jyrki shrugged. “She hasn’t seen her cousins in a while so I don’t blame her.”

“Tell him what she did though Jyrks.” Rosalind grinned.

“Ah, she sent my present with Rosalind.” Jyrki said with his own soft smile. “A travel alarm clock.”

Vile laughed. “Really?”

“It’s the sixth she’s given me.” Jyrki said with a laugh.

“Sixth what?” Soya asked padding into the kitchen in her robe and slippers. “Oh, coffee.” She said with a smile as she grabbed a mug and poured herself some of the dark liquid.

“Sixth travel alarm clock.” Jyrki answered. “Impi gave me one for my birthday.”

“That’s adorable!” Soya laughed. “I have yet to wrap your present, so don’t go peeking in my closet.”

Jyrki laughed. “Soya, you didn’t have to get me anything.”

“Of course I did.” Soya grinned. “If I didn’t, Rosalind would never let me live it down.” She turned back to Ville. “Get in the shower Ville, or you’re going to be late to pick up your suit.”

Ville rolled his eyes, downing the rest of his coffee before setting the empty mug in the sink. “You know, if Rose and Jyrki hadn’t interrupted us we would still be in bed and you wouldn’t be so worried about the time.”

“But alas, they did interrupt us and you need to pick up your suit early just in case they need to make adjustments.” Soya said with a smile, “So, go shower.”

Ville sighed. “Fine, but you owe me big Soya.”

“I know.” Soya said with a laugh as she watched him leave the kitchen.

“You have that man wrapped around your finger, don’t you?” Rosalind grinned.

“For the most part.” Soya laughed, draining her coffee. “Make yourselves at home you guys, Rose I’m just going to change quickly and we’ll get going all right?”

“Perfect, monada.” Rosalind nodded as Soya left the kitchen.

“Well, you were right.” Jyrki said, tilting his head to look at his girlfriend. “They’re perfect for each other.”

Rosalind snorted. “I’m always right. I don’t know why after ten years you still doubt me.”

Jyrki shook his head. “I don’t either sydämeni.”

Half an hour later, Soya came out of her room, her hair pulled back into a high tight ponytail, the ends of her hair brushing the bottom of her shoulder blades, in a pair of dark blue jean and a grey long sleeved sweater that fell mid thigh, with Ville behind her as she told him where his suit was waiting for him.

“We’ll meet back here at four Ville.” Soya said, as she put her “Hello Kitty” wallet into her grey satchel purse.

“What time does this party start?” Jyrki asked, as Ville took a seat next to him.

“Seven.” Soya said, leaning over the couch to kiss Ville’s cheek. “You can’t leave here any later than ten thirty Ville, that gives you half an hour.”

“I know.” Ville laughed. “Stop worrying; go have fun with Rosalind, I’ll be here at four with the suit ready and waiting. I assure you.”

“All right.” Soya said, kissing him one last time before pushing off the couch and starting out of the flat as Rosalind kissed her boyfriend’s cheek and grabbed her own purse off the couch.

“We’ll be back later.” Rosalind said as she followed Soya out of the flat. Jyrki turned to Ville once he heard the door shut.

“Do you know what Soya got me for my birthday?”

Ville laughed, looking over at his friend. “No idea.”

“Damn.” Jyrki said, watching as Ville grabbed the remote off the coffee table and flipped on the TV. “Shouldn’t we go pick up your suit?”

Ville shrugged. “We have time.”

Jyrki shook his head. “Soya is going to kill you if you don’t have your suit in time.”

“Like I said, we have time. I mean, even if it does need alterations, how long do those really take?”

“Depends on the measurements Soya gave.” Jyrki pointed out. “We should just go now, just to get it over with.”

Ville rolled his head over to look at his friend. “We don’t have to leave for another half an hour though.”

Jyrki snorted, propping his feet up on the coffee table. “Fine by me Ville, but if you’re late for this thing Soya will kill you.”

Ville grinned. “I have to say, it’s a bit fun to see her freak out.”

Jyrki shook his head with a laugh. “You have to get your entertainment somehow, I guess.”

“Come out already!” Rosalind said, lounging on the purple crushed velvet Victorian couch that was in the small family owned boutique that apparently offered Soya dresses.

“Just a minute!” Soya called back.

“How did you find this place?” Rosalind asked, scanning the small store, admiring the dresses that were on the racks.

“A friend of mine that I used to dance with when I was younger,” Soya explained. “Her family owns it, they offered to let me borrow dresses whenever I needed them for these types of parties, but I had to give the name of the store when asked where I got it.” The door swung open, Soya walking out of the dressing room and standing up on the platform in for to the three way mirror. “I love their dresses so much I don’t mind being a walking advertisement for them.”

Rosalind turned and looked at Soya only to feel her mouth drop. “Oh my, monada, that dress is gorgeous.”

Soya smiled. “Isn’t it?” she bit her lip as she turned around to look at the back. “I feel like it’s too low though.”

“No, no; it’s perfect Soya.” Rosalind said quickly, knowing that one little doubt could mean another dress completely for Soya.

“Are you sure?” Soya said scrunching up her nose.

Rosalind stood and went over to stand next to Soya. “Monada, Ville will fall to his knees when he sees you in this dress. It’s perfect; all you need to do is bring it up a few inches.” Rosalind said, bending down to fold the hem of the long gown so that it reached the bottom of Soya’s heel only to frown. “You’re not wearing heels.”

“I plan to.”

“No, Soya, sweetheart, you need to wear heels now so we can see how much it needs to be hemmed.”

“Oh, right.” Soya said with a wry smile.

“Lets see…” Rosalind said, going towards the wall where the store had a large selection of heels, finding a pair of opened toed heels that matched the dress perfectly. “Here.” She said handing them to Soya.

“Oh, Rose, I don’t wear open toe.” Soya said, pushing the shoes away.

“You do tonight.” Rosalind said lifting Soya’s foot and taking the converse and sock off her foot, placing the heel on it. All the while, Soya tried to keep her balance only to glare at her friend. “See,” Rosalind said moving to the other foot and repeating the process. “With the length of the dress the shoes are perfect; I can’t even see your toes and it doesn’t need any hemming because of the height of the heel. It’s perfect Soya.”

Soya bit the inside of her cheek as she stared at herself in the mirror. “I hate it when you’re right.”

“I know.” Rosalind grinned. “Most people do.”

Shaking her head she stepped down from the platform and went back to the dressing room, changing out of the dress and carefully placing the dress on its hanger before changing back into her jeans and sweater. Coming out of the room she found Rosalind talking to the owner of the shop, causing the older woman to laugh.

“Did you find one Soya, dear?” Maija smiled at her.

“I did,” Soya said, “Rosalind found me a pair of shoes as well.”

“Perfect!” Maija said excitedly.

“Would you mind holding them for me until a bit later? I just don’t want anything to happen to the dress with the rest of my errands.”

“Of course we’ll hold them! Come back when you’re ready, I’ll be here waiting for you.”

“Perfect; thank you Maija. Ready Rosalind?”

“Yep, it was great meeting you!” Rosalind grinned before exiting the store.

“You have some interesting friends Soya.” Maija said with a laugh.

“That I know.” Soya said with a shake of her head and following Rosalind.

“So what’s next?” Rosalind asked as they got into the car.

“We visit Inka at her salon, she does my hair and you sit quietly in the corner.” Soya laughed as she pulled out and started towards Inka’s salon.

“You don’t know me very well, do you?” Rosalind teased.

“You’ll love Inka Rosalind, and Elli just texted me, she said she’s on her way over there as well.”

“You’re very different here aren’t you?” Rosalind stated looking at Soya.

“What do you mean?” Soya asked, sparing Rosalind a glance before turning back o the road.

“I mean, you’re still that shy woman I know that blushes at a snap of a finger, but you’re more…” Rosalind frowned as she searched for the word. “You’re much more comfortable with yourself here.”

“Am I?” Soya asked with a teasing smile.

Rosalind laughed. “You really are; you’re not the girl I saw three years ago in Chicago Soya.”

Soya winced. “I would hope not.”

“Are you going to stay here?” Rosalind asked.

“In Hels?” Soya asked. “Of course, I have until January, Rosalind.”

“No, Soya, I mean…permanently?”

“Oh, well…” Soya bit the corner of her lip, before looking over at Rosalind. “Well as much as I would want to, I can’t.”

“Why not?”

“I’m still a part of the company, Rose; I am for the next two years.” Soya laughed. “I can’t just move here when my work is in New York.”

“Then why would you buy an apartment here if you’re just going to leave in January?”

“Because it’s cheaper to buy a flat, than get a hotel room for six months.”

“Why couldn’t you stay with Ville?”

Soya blinked. “Because I didn’t want to.”

“You didn’t want to live with your boyfriend?” Rosalind asked with a smile.

“He wasn’t my boyfriend when I decided to come out here Rose, and Ville needs his space just as much as I need mine.”

“Really?” Rosalind laughed. “Because Jyrki’s been telling me that since you’ve been here you only spend the night at your apartment a week at a time…with Ville, the rest of the time is spent at Ville’s tower…with Ville. That doesn’t seem like you’re giving each other space.”

“Jyrki’s got a big mouth.” Soya muttered, causing Rosalind to laugh as Soya continued “So what does it seem like?” Soya asked, parking in front of Inka’s salon

“Like you guys are getting ready to do it.” Rosalind sang getting out of the car, leaving Soya to gape at her before getting out of the car and following her into the salon.

“I’ll have you know, we’re not getting ready to…you know.” Soya said under her breath, crossing her arms. “We just end up at one or another.”

“It still doesn’t explain why you bought a place.” Rosalind shrugged. “But to each their own, so which one’s Inka?”

“I’m Inka. Soya!” Inka greeted opening her arms to a hug.

“Hi Inka.” Soya laughed hugging her friend. “Rosalind this is my friend Inka, Inka, Rosalind.” Soya introduced.

Without any prompting, both girls hugged each other with a laugh. “It’s great to meet you.” Rosalind said as they pulled away from each other.

“Great to meet you too! Now, Soya called and said you wanted your nails done, so I have the station all ready, just pick a color on the wall and one of the girls will get you started.”

“Wonderful.” Rosalind laughed, going over to the wall where Inka had every color of nail polish sitting on the shelves.

“And you, we are cutting your hair.”

“Trim.” Soya corrected as she followed Inka to the chair. “We’re just trimming.”

“I like the word ‘cut’ so much better.” Inka grinned.

“I told you we should have gone early” Jyrki sang under his breath as they walked down the street where they’d just come from the tailor where Ville had gotten his suit measured. The man in the store had told Ville it would be about two hours for the alterations to be done, and he had to meet the girls back at the apartment in an hour.

“Yes, yes, so you keep reminding me.” Ville muttered, lighting a cigarette. “Who knew alterations took so long?”

“Soya.” Jyrki laughed. “Well it works out, I have to get Rosalind something, and there’s a jewelry store just down the block.”

“It’s your birthday, but you have to get her something?”

Jyrki shrugged. “I don’t know why you’re so surprised by our relationship’s dynamic…or Rosalind’s eccentricities.”

“You fucked up didn’t you?”

Jyrki grinned. “There is that too.” Jyrki shook his head. “No, I’m trying to pick out her Christmas gift early this year; I want to get her and Impi matching bracelets so I’ve been shopping around. This place is the only one I haven’t been to.”

“Let’s go then.” Ville said stubbing out his cigarette, making sure it was out and throwing it out before walking into the jewelry store behind Jyrki.

Ten minutes later, Ville was looking into the glass cases as Jyrki talked to one of the employees about custom making a bracelet, when he caught sight of a necklace.

“Are you looking for something in particular?”

He looked up and gave a small smile to the young woman behind the counter. “How much for that one?” He asked pointing to the necklace.

“Two hundred.”

“What are you looking at?” Jyrki asked, looking into the case where Ville was looking. “It’s nice.”

“Do you think Soya would like it?” Ville asked.

Jyrki gave Ville a teasing grin. “Giving a woman jewelry. Are you sure you’re ready for that step?”

Ville rolled his eyes. “I just want a yes or a no Jyrki.”

Jyrki chuckled. “It’s simple, classic. Yes, I think she’ll like it, but then again, I’m not the one dating her.”

Ville looked at the woman. “I’ll take it.”

“Wonderful, I’ll go wrap it up.” The woman smiled taking it out of the case.

“So how did you fuck up?” Jyrki asked.

“I figure it’s pretty enough, it’ll distract her from the fact that we’re late.” Ville grinned as he took out his wallet to pay for the necklace.
